So, Tiger Woods was asked who should be on the Mt. Rushmore of golfers, and he says, Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, and him.   Fair enough.    So, extrapolating on that theme  please name whom you think should be on the Mt. Rushmore in the following categories.  By this, of course we mean who are the best 4 ever to play these sports/positions:

1. Name your Mt. Rushmore of  Quarterbacks in NFL history.

2. Name your Mt Rushmore of  Running Backs in NFL history

3. Name your Mt. Rushmore of Wide Receivers in NFL history

4. Name your Mt. Rushmore of  Middle Linebackers in NFL history

5. Name your Mt. Rushmore of  Pass rushers  (DE/OLB)  in NFL history

6. Name your Mt. Rushmore of Head Coaches in NFL history

7. Name your Mt. Rushmore of NBA  players in history.

8. Name your Mt. Rushmore of baseball  position players in history

9. Name your Mt. Rushmore of baseball pitchers in history

10. Name your Mt. Rushmore of hockey players in history.

The ones highlighted so far have two votes, yours and mine...

(I did not put in T.O. because I think he is a bit of a scum bucket...and I think that even a couple of receivers of his same era could have even been just as good or better....like Marvin Harrison and Chris Carter....

Also....did not include  Barry Bonds  or Roger Clemens because of their juicing.....plus, like Bob Costas, I worship at the altar of Mickey Mantle as a position player (plus I would have put in Bob Feller over Clemens....noting the several years of his career that he gave up to fight WWII)

Ya I did my list without looking at yours, and we came up with similarities.

I went by purely what they did on the field of battle, hence I have a murderer or two and steriod users.

I could do a list with only people we don't think cheated (Clemens, Bonds out Christy Matthewson and Hank Aaron in) People who weren't scumbags (OJ out, Ladian Tomlinson in) or I could do my personal favorites to watch (would include guys like Bret Favre, Reggie Miller, Orel Hershiser that I just really enjoyed watching).

In theory I guess we could take every one of our choices out and put others in....maybe, though not really for a few.  I think likely that there is at least one inarguable person for each of these that 100% of people would choose them for their monument....but for the others, there easily are arguments for other people.

All time Mount Rushmore for the four top American team sports:

Babe Ruth, Jim Brown, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan

I defer to Jordan because Lebron's career is not over, but I personally think Lebron is a better basketball player, if he wins a championship in LA I'd have to give him the throne.

I debated about putting  Jordan in the top 4.   I think both LeBron and Magic are better,   and and argument could be made that the likes of Russell, Wilt, and Kareem were better.

Jordan, to me is simply Kobe with a bit more longevity at the top. And I think he may have been a product of the Phil Jackson system...under which Kobe also won 5 titles.   I also think that in those Finals that he won that he faced weak competition, comparatively.   The best team he ever ran up against were the Jazz with Stockton and Malone.....but that team, in my opinion was nowhere near the type of competition that LeBron has faced in the Finals:   the Spurs dynasty and the Warriors.  Magic had the Bird Celtics to contend with...and Bird had the Magic Lakers.  When Jordan's teams faced stiff competition such as those Bird Celtics, and the Bad Boys Pistons, he got beat before the Finals.  It was not until after those teams tailed off did he begin to win the East even.

One QB that almost never get run in the greatest of all time....IS in fact one with almost as many championships as anyone else:

Bart Starr.     Starr won 5 titles.   Only OG with his 7 and Brady with his 5 match or exceed Starr.

Then there are the "Four Title QBs"   not listed by anyone here yet:   Terry Bradshaw, and Sid Luckman.  (The 4 or more title club includes only 6 QBs:  OG/Brady/Montana/Bradshaw/Luckman/Starr)

While he is no Lou Brock or Rickey Henderson, people may be surprised to know that Babe Ruth stole 123 bases in his career,  and despite his portly appearance, the dude could run.

AND....he actually could bunt and had 113 sacrifices in his career.

Getting back to golf, how the HELL do you leave Arnold Palmer off? He took the perception of golf as a "rich man's game" & brought it to the average guy. He was truly the "Ambassador of Golf". Had it not been for Arnold Palmer, Tiger (through his Dad) may never have had the opportunity he has had. Arnold Palmer is definitely one of the most significant contributors to golf history. IMHO, leaving him off is a travesty!

Slept on this one...

MJ, LBJ, Magic, Olajuwon...

All conventional choices except Hakeem, but he was the most athletic Center I've ever seen and he could do it all... Offense with range... Defense. Just a joy to watch him play.

lol... I had an advantage.

Every year going into double sessions in H.S. our coaches would show us an NFL Films production on Chuck. There are a few on youtube, but not the one I remember.

I remember Art Donovan of the Colts, perhaps the greatest interview in NFL history, describe Bednarik's prowess as a center: "He couldn't block my grandmother."

Narleski and Feller didn't really didn't compete for a starting spot.

Narleski's had a short career....only played 6 years, 5 with the Indians.  From 1954 to 1958.  His record was  39-21.

Feller played a couple of years with Narleski at the end of his career.

So, while Narleski may have been a bit of a cult figure...to you, no one is going to put him on the Mt. Rushmore of MLB pitchers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But....an interesting question would be:

Who would be on the Mt. Rushmore of Indians pitchers over history?  Feller....Lemon....Harder....Covaleski....Addie Joss...Early Wynn....Sam McDowell...Kluber...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And note this:   Cy Young  spent 9 years with the Cleveland Spiders of the National League and another 3 with the Indians.

Which brings up another question....perhaps for the Tribe forum:   Why did not the Cleveland Spiders continue on as a National League team?   They began in 1887 and lasted until 1899, then folded apparently.  But, the Indians (by another name)  began just 2 years later, in 1901.   So Cleveland was without  a major league baseball team for just  one single year:  1900.

So, what happened to the Cleveland Spiders?

Somehow the owner of the Spiders also owned a franchise in St. Louis (I think) and for reasons I don't remember off the top of my head decided to transfer all the good players off the Spiders to St. Louis. The Spiders were the literal version of the movie 'Major League' Indians, made up of castoffs and never-was-is's… They finished the season 20-134.
