CLEVELAND -- The Indians have been able to dance around injury after injury this season, but Tuesday they received news that will be difficult to overcome. Cy Young candidate Trevor Bauer has a stress fracture of the right fibula and has been placed on the 10-day disabled list. Bauer was struck by a line drive above his right ankle on Saturday night against the White Sox. X-rays taken that night were negative, but an MRI on Tuesday revealed what manager Terry Francona called a "small' stress fracture of the fibula. Adam Plutko will take Bauer's spot in the rotation and start against the Orioles on Saturday at Progressive Field. Yeah, not great but October & the playoffs (when they really need him) are still a long ways off. 12 games up with around 40 left to play, the Tribe is a virtual lock to get to the post season, even without Bauer. About 40, with the Tribe comfortably in front of a Twins team that epically underperformed this season, with the exception of when they play the Indians. That being said, in a perfect world MLB would go back to at least a 154 game schedule, and to be honest, I think around 140 would suffice. Start the season a week or so later, have the season end mid-September, and have the World Series wrap up about the time it used to, the first week of October. If it was up to me, I'd shorten all the pro regular seasons. I'd go back to 14 NFL games and about 60 NBA and NHL games, and shorten their ridiculous playoff seasons too.
