TexasAg1969 Posted June 13, 2018 Report Share Posted June 13, 2018 9mm has seemed to have taken over the market due to so many really good concealed carry pistols out there, whereas the 10mm tends to be a much heavier/larger pistol. I still own my old standby .357 Mag, but it's just for show because it has adjustable sights and a long barrel so I can impress the younguns that the old dog can still hit a bullseye on the range. LOL!🤩 If you live in Alaskan Grizz and Brown bear country, I hear from an in-law there are a lot of folks who carry it along with bear spray. I hike black bear country and carry bear spray and a 9mm for the noise if nothing else. But I keep a 147 gr Win. Bonded Ranger loaded mag in it because the penetration it carries would stop one up close when spray and noise don't work. My preference is that in any encounter between animals and me both get away clean. Don't really like the idea of orphaning any cubs which is the most likely reason a black bear would ever attack. It went out of style because it is pricey, snappy, and the factory loaded stuff from the major ammo producers is loaded down to .40 pressure. The ammo offerings from Buffalo Bore and Underwood are good. I went with a steel guide rod and heavier recoil spring. It made my peppier 10mm reloads pleasant to shoot. But most people think Glock 40s are too peppy. Honestly, for me it is just a luxury round. Same with .357 Sig. Cute and expensive ways to reach roughly the same result of any other average self defense caliber. Pistols are still just a shitty substitute for a long gun. So I went with the slower round with high penetration. That standardized testing I linked showed the speed @ 966 ft/sec out of the barrel average on 5 shots and the bullet loses none of its weight start to finish. I would probably skip the Sig 320 for a little bit until they completely get their stuff squared away. They were having problems with guns going off when dropped. They supposedly fixed it but are now running into QC issues. I really hope they have it all in the past. They won the contract to replace Beretta with U.S. troops. But that usually boils down to money. If you wanted to carry something with a 12+ or 15 capacity, get a Glock 19. It is the boring choice but there is a reason for that. Texas LTC allows both concealed and open carry, but I do not know if in reciprocity from Ohio if they allow other than what your license there allows if it is a CC license.
