kamac19
Bit of Military history you guys may or may not know off, back home in Scotland on Isle of Islay they have been holding memorial services for two US troop carrying ships which were lost of the coast of the island during WW1, there has been a documentary made of this but not sure would be available to view in US at moment, might as it on BBC America sometime or YouTube, but very interesting stories behind he two tragedies. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-43988158
calfoxwc
I didn't know that part of WWI - I'd like to see the Smithsonian one of these days, and see that Flag they made. What a great story about the Scots. What a sad story for the troops on the two ill-fated ships. I don't remember seeing this bit of history at the Wright-Pat Air Force Museum - which is spectacular to see - 4 giant hangars, an all day adventure. American Red Cross erected monument on cliffs over looking the area in 1920, pretty impressive structure.
TexasAg1969
This is a new one for me too. I wish I could be in eastern France this year for whatever ceremonies may be held at the American Cemeteries at the St. Mihiel Salient and the Meuse-Argonne. My grandfather was a Capt. in charge of a towed 8 in. howitzer battery at both major American battles there. My older brother & wives visited that first one and walked the battlefield at both places in his footsteps as provided in his daily diary of his experiences there. I'm certain there will be ceremonies commemorating the 100 anniversaries of each battle coming up in the fall. https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A0geKWL3b.9aYkQAcaUPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByMjB0aG5zBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=american+cemetery+st+mihiel+france&fr=yhs-pty-pty_forms&hspart=pty&hsimp=yhs-pty_forms https://images.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A2KLfaBLcO9a9XQAWrsPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByMjB0aG5zBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=american+cemetery+meuse+argonne+france&fr=yhs-pty-pty_forms&hspart=pty&hsimp=yhs-pty_forms
