Five BIG TEN in the top 20, sounds a lot like last year.

And it has been surmised that that is one reason that they have not had as much success as they potentially should:   A. they come from cold weather to warm weather and become distracted  B.  Also....they are always "on the road" in those games.  Bowl games are held in the states of the Pac 12 or SEC...their home territory.  Some minor bowl games may now be played in northern cities with domes....but most are still held in SEC/Pac 12 territory.

Point B is very valid.

Point A  perhaps should be idiotic....but it is nevertheless a fact.   If guys come from the north and the cold and go to the south and the warm, and hang around beaches or pools....there can be some distraction to that.

Actually historically the BIG TEN always finished before thanksgiving, no conference championship games, did not play freshmen, did not use JuCo players all put them at a disadvantage over other conferences. Football players who sit through thanksgiving, Christmas and maybe even new year can get very sluggish and put on weight.

All of that has been somewhat  corrected in recent years and it shows. ;)

.......oh and being visitors does enter into the equation, nobody wants to play in the snow when you can go to Tampa, Miami or Disney World.

No.... It's not a fact.

It's not a fact that players from colleges up north get distracted by warm weather when they play down south and that it affects their play

Yes, it is.  The weather alone is not the distraction.

I mean....the proof is in the pudding.....when  FMU comes south to play in Columbus they are always distracted by peripheral things.    Like indoor toilets, running water, paved streets, clothing that is not plaid, etc.

Ohio State hopes so and says it has learned its lesson from big matchups such as the Texas game in 2005, in which cleanup crews found several soiled shorts and a few coolers filled with poop.

“You either deal with the problem up front, or you deal with it later when it’s ugly,” said Kelley-Snoke.

If only OSU fans were distracted by indoor toilets, huh?

Wrong. They can and DO get distracted big time, why do you think the BIG TEN used to do so poorly in the Rose Bowl games.

Pac 10 teams were home for another game to win, the B1G guys were there on vacation to go to Disneyland......even with superior teams that were generally the winner of the OHIO STATE/Michigan game which was the winner of the defacto BIG 2 little 8 non playoff B1G conference tournament.

Gipper 1 Woody 0. (sorry Woodman, you must of been distracted   .......just kidding pal).

You're mixing up correlation and causation. Sort of. That's under the assumption that the players are even distracted in any way...

So....what you are saying is that there were no distractions for Big Ten etc. teams  when they went to bowl games out west or down south.  That they lost all those games JUST because the other team was always better than them.

I don't think you realize what you're trying to argue. Just like someone that poops in coolers...

You're arguing that B1G teams are distracted in warm weather, and it's a major part of poor performance

1) If I argue "distractions" aren't a major factor, that doesn't mean there are "no distractions"

2) if I argue it isn't a major factor, that doesn't mean there are no external factors in poor performance

"Only dealing in absolutes" Gip is almost asbad as "All I need is anecdotal evidence" Gip.

So....you admit that there ARE distractions when Big Ten teams go to play in bowls.....

ergo....admitting that I am right.

Discussion over.

Lol, this is what I expected from a cooler pooper.

You are still having a rough time following basic logic. So I think I'm done.

I still fail to see how 20,000 people in a 65K stadium constitutes some sort of serious home field advantage.

Why would anyone bet on that school up north?

they haven’t won a title in decades. And their coach has never won a title

Great expectations.

After years of "m" getting pummeled by The OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY it looked like the Wolverines program was turning the corner and improving they did have a great defense recently -but- apparently can't recruit to the Urban Meyer level yet.

Who knows how much better they might have been with a star quarterback last year? They just don't have the depth that the BUCKEYES have. I would like to see them more competitive, good for the B1G too.

Sad to hear the Buckeyes QB Joe Burrow announced his departure today.

He’s going to be a hot commodity for some D1 team with a need for a starting QB.

I hear Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma State are already putting their feelers out for his services.

I certainly don’t want him in the Big 10.

Does he have to sit out a year?

No, he graduated last week which makes him a graduate transfer.

He was a redshirt freshman, so he has 2 years eligibility left.

Burrow was a 5 star recruit, and Ohio Mr Football winner in 2014 if I remember correctly.
