LOl...is that right?  Cleveland's true spelling is "Cleaveland" and you guys still cant get it right.

Why don't you try to answer the questions?   Don't you know your own team?   Or, are you too going to defer to Ghoolie?

And FYI....the true spelling of Cleveland IS Cleveland.   Just because the founder of the city is named Moses Cleaveland does not mean that the city had to be spelled the same way.

Don't you know your own city's history?

Two theories on why it was changed.

It was named after General Moses Cleaveland, an investor in the company who led the survey of its land within the Western Reserve. The town was located along the eastern bank of the Cuyahoga River. Because of a spelling error on the original map, the community has always been spelled Cleveland instead of Cleaveland.

Second theory...

The Cleveland Advertiser "officially" changes the spelling of the community's name to Cleveland.

So what happened to the 'A'?

According to William Barrow, with the Cleveland Memory Project at Cleveland State University, we're not sure.

"Nobody really knows what happened to the A," Barrow said. "Best story is that a newspaper editor deliberately or accidentally dropped it, but that doesn’t seem convincing."

The first theory sounds more convincing to me, because of a mistake, on a map, near a lake.

So you are wrong, the true spelling of Cleveland is Cleaveland.

Now...as always the rules are:  no Googling.  Answers these straight from your memory, knowledge.   If you can beat Ghoolie at this, then fine....you can pound your chest.  If he beats you....he can pound his chest....and you just have to pay homage to that.  So...here you go..    Start out with an easy one:

1.  Name the 4 Stadiums the Steelers have played in during their existence.

Forbes, Three Rivers, Heinz,...Heinz Field West lol?

2. The Steelers have retired only two (2) numbers.   For what players?

Stautner, Greene

3. The Steelers drafted 4 Hall of Famers in their 1974 draft....Name all 4.

Lambert, Webster, Swann,...Cant remember, Blount or Ham?

I'll go with Blount.

4.  In which year did the Steelers draft a guy by the name of Hugh Lickass  (err...actually Lickiss...but that is a real guy)

Pass

5. How many years after they were formed in 1933 did it take the Steelers  aka Pirates to have a winning season?

Somewhere in the mid 1940's...12 years is my guess.

6. What is the Steelers post season record against the other teams of the AFCN ....Browns, Bengals, Ravens

Browns 2-0, Bungles 2-0, ...Rats I wanna say 2-1

Again, the Steelers own this division.

7. What 3 teams have the Steelers played in the post season that they have never beaten?

Including the SB? Can't think of another AFC team.

Packers, Jax, NE

8. Why....despite its history as a football town....even in 1920....did it take Pittsburgh  14 years to be awarded an NFL franchise?

Pass

Strange in that Pittsburgh is the birthplace of pro football.

9. What former Steeler player is now actually a minority owner of the Steelers?

Ernie Arrowhead Holmes lol.

Never mind, he's dead.

Pass

10. A.  Who/what/where/how did the Steelers get their helmet logo?

Republic Steel of Cleveland proposed it to the Steelers.

Rock n' Roll and that logo, two of the coolest things to ever come out of Cleveland!

Thanks Cleveland!

B. What is that design on their helmet logo called?

Hypocycloids

11. Where do the Steelers hold their training camp?

St. Vincents College, Latrobe.

12. What college has a field named after the Steelers original owner?

Pass

I AM well aware of all this......I am well aware of why the  newspaper  dropped the A......because the name with the A  was too long for the papers headlines.

But...the FACT IS...the A was dropped because it was unnecessary.    Ergo....the true spelling of the city is Cleveland without the A...because that is what the city has officially adopted it to be.

The difference between Cleveland and Pittsburgh is that Cleveland was smart enough to drop its superfluous, silent letter.

Just like it should be Pittsburg.   The h at the end being superfluous and unneeded.  Its just that yinz haven't been smart enough to do that yet.

Forbes, Three Rivers, Heinz,...Heinz Field West lol?  You missed one....seriously?  after the conversation in the other thread.

2. The Steelers have retired only two (2) numbers.   For what players?

Stautner, Greene  Check

3. The Steelers drafted 4 Hall of Famers in their 1974 draft....Name all 4.

Lambert, Webster, Swann,...Cant remember, Blount or Ham?

I'll go with Blount.  You only got three right...seriously?

Its close to that....half credit.

6. What is the Steelers post season record against the other teams of the AFCN ....Browns, Bengals, Ravens

Browns 2-0, Bungles 2-0, ...Rats I wanna say 2-1

Again, the Steelers own this division.  You only got 2 right.

7. What 3 teams have the Steelers played in the post season that they have never beaten?

Including the SB? Can't think of another AFC team.

Packers, Jax, NE  You only got 2 right.

8. Why....despite its history as a football town....even in 1920....did it take Pittsburgh  14 years to be awarded an NFL franchise?

You really don't know?   Actually....it is just the place where they paid just one guy....good old Pudge Hefflefinger (by the way...I went to high school with a guy related to him:  Vernon Hefflefinger).    So, actually,  I would say that Pittsburgh is the place where Pro Football was impregnated...but Canton was where it was birthed.   (I think that is a pretty good analogy...if I do say so myself)  :D

9. What former Steeler player is now actually a minority owner of the Steelers?

Ernie Arrowhead Holmes lol.

Never mind, he's dead.

Pass

Really? You don't know?

10. A.  Who/what/where/how did the Steelers get their helmet logo?

Republic Steel of Cleveland proposed it to the Steelers.

Rock n' Roll and that logo, two of the coolest things to ever come out of Cleveland!

Thanks Cleveland!

Well...one thing anyway.   Check

B. What is that design on their helmet logo called?

Hypocycloids  Check....and by the way....just yesterday morning I was talking to a friend of mine who is from Pa....and was wearing a steeler pullover with the logo on it....but he had no clue what those things were called.

11. Where do the Steelers hold their training camp?

St. Vincents College, Latrobe.  Check

12. What college has a field named after the Steelers original owner?

Pass

I would generally say pretty good to someone answering this....but not for someone that is supposed to be a diehard steeler fan who only got  4 complete answers out of 12.   The two that are unforgiveable are questions 1 and 3....and probably #8...but the others were hard and you get somewhat of a pass on those.

Not sure why Goolie did not ever try his own Challenge....but here are the answers:

1.  Name the 4 Stadiums the Steelers have played in during their existence.

Forbes Field, Pitt Stadium, Three Rivers,  Heinz Field.

2. The Steelers have retired only two (2) numbers.   For what players?

#70 for Ernie Stautner   #75 for Joe Greene

3. The Steelers drafted 4 Hall of Famers in their 1974 draft....Name all 4.

Lynn Swann in the 1st round.    Jack Lambert in the 2d round.  John Stallworth in the 4th round.  Mike Webster in the 5th round.    These were 4 of their first 5 picks.   The guy that did not make it:  Jimmy Allen, a DB from UCLA.

4.  In which year did the Steelers draft a guy by the name of Hugh Lickass  (err...actually Lickiss...but that is a real guy)

He was actually taken in that same 1974 draft.....but in the 12th round.

5. How many years after they were formed in 1933 did it take the Steelers  aka Pirates to have a winning season?

They managed a winning record in their 10th season....1942 when they went 7-4....but no playoffs.

6. What is the Steelers post season record against the other teams of the AFCN ....Browns, Bengals, Ravens

They are 7-1 in the postseason vs. these teams.   2-0 vs. Browns  2-0 vs. Bengals  3-1 vs. Ravens.  Stinkhole claims that the Steelers own this division in the postseason....  well......not sure about that.  The DO own all the luck.   Remember, the Browns having a 17 point lead then stupidly going to the prevent defense in middle of the 3rd quarter?   And then Dennis Northcutt making The Drop.....that if he had not done so would hve won the game for the Browns.   And then of course there were those dumbarse plays by the Bengals at the end of that game where if they could have just not be complete and utter idiots and not committed stupid personal fouls, they would have won that game.    They did dominate the Ravens in  2 of their 3 postseason wins....but in another, the game was tied 24-24 with 1:33 left when the Steelers scored the winning TD.   The game they lost to the Ravens was a somewhat one sided affair for the Ratbirds.

7. What 3 teams have the Steelers played in the post season that they have never beaten?

The Jaguars are 2-0 vs. Pitt....and the Packers and the Eagles are both 1-0.  Also...they are 1-5 vs. the New England Patriots. Also...they have played the Broncos  8 times in postseason....which may be the most frequest postseason matchup between any 2 teams in NFL history...and they are 3-5 in those games.

Technically....they are also  0-1 vs. the Tennessee Titans...since that team has been in Tenn.....but since the Titans are the former Houston Oilers, they have a winning record there. Actually, they beat the Oilers all three times they met.  Their best record is against the Colts, whom, between Baltimore and Indy, they have met 5 times and won them all.

8. Why....despite its history as a football town....even in 1920....did it take Pittsburgh  14 years to be awarded an NFL franchise?

Before the early 30s, Pittsburg had strenuous "Blue Laws"  that prevented  nearly all business from being conducted on Sundays.  Since the NFL was a Sunday game league.....they declined to put a team there.   After Prohibition was repealed, most of those  Blue Laws were also revoked.

9. What former Steeler player is now actually a minority owner of the Steelers?

John Stallworth.    The sons of Art Rooney had investments in race tracks and Casinos in the Tampa area....and by NFL rules they had to decide what they wanted:  those interests, or their interest in the NFL team.  Two of the 3 brothers decided to sell their interest.  Only Dan Rooney remained...but he did not have the wherewithal to buy out his brothers, so he brought in minority owners....including Jimmy Haslam.  I am not sure of how this came down...but when Haslam bought the Browns he had to sell his interests out....and Stallworth, and others unrelated to the Rooneys bought into the team via these minority interests.

After Dan Rooney's death...his son, Art II became the "primary owner" of the Steelers.  I did not say "Majority owner" because no one person owns a majority.  Art II   owns the league minimum 30% of the team that allows him to be the primary owner.  Some other Rooney family members also own smaller interests....but it is entirely possible that the Rooney family does not actually own a majority of the shares of the team. This is something that would have to be checked on...as I am not sure how that comes down.

10. A.  Who/what/where/how did the Steelers get their helmet logo?

Republic Steel of Cleveland reccommended to Art Rooney that he adopt the US Steeler logo for his team.  I believe that started in the mid 1960s

B. What is that design on their helmet logo called?

The generic names for designs of this type are called Astroids....and this specific design are called Hypocycloids.

11. Where do the Steelers hold their training camp?

Latrobe PA.    Also, home town of Arnold Palmer I believe.  And yes...Rolling Rock as well.

12. What college has a field named after the Steelers original owner?

Duquesne University there in Pittsburg.

NFL owners unanimously approved the restructuring of ownership on December 17, 2008, with Dan & Art II getting the mandated 30% stake. Meanwhile, brothers Timothy and Patrick selling their shares outright, while Art Jr., John, and the McGinley family selling some shares but retaining smaller ownership roles, with the brothers reducing their shares from 16% to 6% and the McGinley family reducing their shares from 20% to 10%. Also coming on as partners are Pilot Corporation & Pilot Travel Centers president Jim Haslam III (son of founder Jim Haslam Jr. and brother of Tennessee governor Bill Haslam; Jim Haslam III would later relinquish his stake when he purchased the rival Cleveland Browns), Legendary Pictures president & CEO Thomas Tull, and the Paul family of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Los Angeles (who are primarily involved with Pittsburgh-based Ampco Pittsburgh Corporation and serve on numerous boards, including University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and University of Pittsburgh), each getting a 16% stake in the team.[8] Dan Rooney mentioned he has no ill will towards Druckenmiller, mentioning he's a great Steelers fan and wishes he remains one.

The Steelers later announced on March 23, 2009, that they added three more investors to the team, the most notable of which is Hall of Fame wide receiver John Stallworth. The other two investors added were GTCR chairmanBruce V. Rauner and the Varischetti family of Brockway, Pennsylvania, which owns several nursing homes and a commercial real estate business. The deal to add all six new investors was finalized in May 2009.[9]

From this, I am not absolutely sure who owns how much of the team....but it sounds like you may need a scorecard.

They are still not a publicly held franchise, so no documents may be available to absolutely spell out the ownership interests.
