Poor arent poor because rich are rich

I wont try to paraphrase and simplify that particular paper but the studies of the polarization of urban area population versus the distance to higher paying jobs and education have a lot to do with trapping segments of populations within poverty feedback cycles.

Basically the Rich in fact by their ability to negotiate distances and tend to put up business in areas that are not suffering city blight (for obvious reasons) are in fact helping (not actively and sometimes actively) keeping the poor well poor. The distances are harder to navigate when populations are basically trapped by law enforcement (who are trying to stem the spread of crime understandably) and easy reliable transportation along with education.

Another part of similar studies are that the wealthy by being able to invest in blind mutual funds who help companies whose sole purpose is profitability, move manufacturing and other low skill jobs overseas effectively killing low to median level skilled workers to "work" their way up by acquiring skills within a workplace.

Its not mailicous or really specific in intent but the fact that money begets money and it takes money to make money by its basic axioms creates barriers for the poor in the first place. They are not insurmountable barriers but difficult.

In fact the poor are poor not solely because the rich are rich but rather the rich want to continue being rich and some of the byproducts of how they make money does help the poor stay poor.

All that's nice and fine but...

Who's fault is it when a guy I work with, who happens to be a former convict who is black, has been working on his 4 year degree for 6 years and by my estimation will never finish it because of lack of motivation? He finds people to pay to write his papers instead of working hard to write them himself. He finds any reason to miss class. Who's fault is that? That's not the riches fault. That's laziness, and if you want to succeed with minimal effort, go somewhere else. The country was founded on seizing oppurtunity, and gives little of a shit about people who don't. Which is a great thing.

That's why people are afraid of Barack Obama. Right there. He's not that, but they're afriad he'll give way too much help to people like that. He'd rather live off universal health care and welfare than work hard to succeed on his own.

Yes, there are certainly systematic disadvantages to being poor.

The point of the article posted here was more along the lines of: making the rich less rich wont make the poor less poor. Coerced redistribution of income is a very limited tool. The rich have gotten killed by the drop in the market lately, decreasing inequality...does anyone feel better than they did a year ago?
