Carrie's billed as a slot-corner. He'll be competing with $630k bargain-guy, BBC.

Would that not be Terrance Mitchell from KC battling BBC at slot corner? Am picturing EJ Gaines getting 1WR"s (ranked as 14th CB by PFF) Taylor/Carrie/Wilson battling for covering #2WR's..I see Dorsey found his talent-less position group.Heck, he may even draft another DB..Now maybe we can play some press nickel coverage that G. Williams played at Rams?  https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2018/3/29/17177614/espn-power-rankings-the-browns-arent-in-last-place

Maybe... what I've read is that OAK kept moving EJ back and forth from slot to outside... and were never really happy with him at either, but that slot was where he played the most.

Quote

Sep 11, 2017 - With rookie cornerback Gareon Conley inactive for the game, the Raiders opted to put TJ Carrie on the outside and start Sean Smith in the slot. But, after Carrie's early struggles, the coaching staff flipped it and put him in the slot.

Jan 23, 2018 - The Oakland Raiders had a cornerback crisis this season with injuries and disappointing play, and T.J. Carrie's struggles in the slot contributed.

Well, I for one, am excited to add Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward to this depth chart.

Mayfield, was my rising second choice at his position ... but I've forgotten about those other guys already, all in on Baker. Ward fills a huge need. I wouldn't have passed on Chubb, but I don't get paid to make those decisions, and our defense looks stronger already with that pick. Needed a big-time corner.

Again, just a pre-2nd Round skeleton to see where our needs are, I didn't include minor players, most of whom won't make the team. The guys looking to see major playing time ... if the season started tomorrrow ... are in bold, And I'm not assigning jobs like slot receiver, nickel back, specialty pass rusher etc. yet.

QB: Taylor, Mayfield, Stanton

FB Vitale

RB Hyde, Duke,  Dayes

WR1 Gordon, Ricardo

WR2 Landry, Coleman, Higgins

TE1 Njoku, Devalve

TE2  Fells, Tefler

LT Coleman, Rod Johnson

LG Bitonio, Drango

C Tretter, Reiter

RG Zeitler

RT HubbardStephenson

DE Garrett, C. Smith, Orchard

DT Coley, Brantley

DT Ogunjobi, Meder

DE Ogbah, Nassib

SLB Collins, Burgess

MLB Schobert, Carder

WLB Kirksey, Alexander

CB WardGaines, Jordan, Wilson

CB Carrie, Taylor, Boddy-Calhoun, Mitchell

SS Peppers, Kindred

FS Randall,  Currie

K Gonzalez

P Colquitt

LS Hughlett

KR Dayes

PR Peppers

    So, our Day 2 Needs:

    QB: No

    FB: bring in a UDFA

RB: YES Need a speed guy, Duke is a pending free agent

WR YES Even if Coleman prospers in Year three, there is not much after that and may need to replace Gordon at some point.

TE Nah, I think we are OK here, but I may like Devalve a second pass catching option better than most.

OT YES We don't know if Coleman is the answer at LT so the more competition the better

OG-C Nah, but maybe pick up some interior depth on Day three

DT Yes, I like our guys, but bring in another Big Body

DE Yes, depth looks weak after starters

    LB Yes, depth needed

CB No, lots of bodies already that are better than mid-round picks

S No, if we are all in on Randall and Peppers this could be a day 3 special teams need.

My Summary of our reamaining needs:

    1. OT

    2 & 3. RB & WR

    4 & 5 DT & DE

    6. LB

    7&8 IL & S

So if we are drafting needs, our three picks in the second round would be:

OT ... Offensive Playmaker ... DL

    Go get 'em ...

Based on your depth chart Z, I would put the Browns biggest needs now in this order:

OLB.  We have 2 MLBs playing out of position....and not much behind them

OT.....yes, we don't know if Coleman/Johnson are the answer to replace JT

RB...to further enhance Dorsey's RB by committee system

WR...We might have some talent here....Gordon/Landry/Coleman etc.   But then....Gordon always on thin ice.  Coleman brittle and questionable. Higgins/Louis...still meh

DT....can't hurt to have more depth after they shipped out Shelton.

Browns are shopping Jamar Taylor and Randall Telfer .....

squeezing lemons here..we got Jamar in 7th round trade when Mia.did not want to pay him. We flipped 7th round picks giving 223 falling to 250..Telfer, not a surprise after adding Fells. maybe try selling him to Dallas?

Not sure what the ultimate plan is with Corbett, but I will put him in the mix at LT and adjust later. I'm going to keep Hyde as the starter at RB for now, we'll see how that develops, and will stick the DE Thomas right into the rotation.

I think now more than ever we can label Duke Johnson 3rd Down Back/receiving back

So, my Needs Update ... and the Browns have been picking needs all along so far:

    1. WR Depth

    2. DT Depth

    3. LB Depth

    4 Safety/special teams.

We have five picks left, I'd say adressing WR, DT and LB is pretty certain, then I'll say Safety and maybe a fullback.

    Maybe two linebackers.

I'm hoping for Simmie Cobbs Jr. or EQ St. Brown for WR

    Dimitri Flowers for FB

    Kentavious Street for DT

Daniel Carlson to compete with Gonzo.

    Hill the CB/S still available?

Number one is done with the addition of Callaway from Florida. As long as his field issues don't screw him up it is said he could have been first round talent

Yep, they are staying on target with needs.

We can only hope they are right players, Callaway looks to be very talented.

Well they got a guy that might be a combo DE and or LB plus now they just got this inside linebacker/outside linebacker so that's seems like a lot of versatility and depth

I'm not sure Louis will make this team. Drops too many. And Wilson is an unknown quantity. Any updates on injury status?

Wilson is getting buried in a numbers game at corner. Louis working with Taylor and Landry in the offseason, so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Finally a competitive looking roster on both sides of the ball - on paper at least...... Getting harder to hide my optimism.

I think, for now Corbett may be slated in as the backup OG at both RG and LG....and Harrison the backup at OT.

Though....don't we still have Rod Johnson here.  Don't count him out.

Ya, we'll see where Corbett lands ... he is probably curtains for Reiter, a backup sole center seems like a luxury.

As for Rod Johnson, if he gets squeezed out in a numbers game there is always an opening in the porn industry.

Agree... see Reiter pushed out. Especially if we see a developmental LT we want to keep.

Meder still feels gone to me with Thomas inside. Odd to see last season's, "destined to start" MLB, Carder, sitting at third in the depth chart. Something gives there and that could be that Avery moves outside.

Still can't get over how thin we look at FS after all the attention our play there last season drew...

Agree at DT, love Meder's motor but this prospect sounds pretty good.

I heard Dorsey say that Avery should get looks inside and out, and Hue called him a special teams gem ... His versatility actually could mean the end for Alexander and Tank could hang on because of his special teams prowess as well. Schobert's Pro Bowl season ended any starting dreams for the Tank.

My opinion on Safety is that we've got two starters that will be in there for almost all snaps, and Kindred is a solid backup with starting experience so they may keep an extra body at corner, I'm sure some of those guys can be cross trained at safety.
