It is literally the same with EVERY position in the game. It's really about the player and the work you think they will be able to put in to become great at the next level.

no, it isn't, really. It depends on the strength of the talent later on. Sometimes the later talent doesn't compare to the top one or two guys at all. Meaning, the talent/intangibles drop  off to unacceptable levels for an immediate starter. For example, drafting the OG from ND really high, when you could get Billy Price maybe? in the second round or a few other OG's? This year, the RB's are deep, so you could go deeper into the draft and get a very good/maybe great RB. There will be some RB's who become immediate impact players - despite not having the outstanding top abilities of Barkley. FS isn't a deep class, IMHO. CB is.QB is... WR - not a top heavy class...

if we end up with an undersized qb with a mediocre arm(Mayfield) and a freaking rb with the #1 and #4 picks in the draft, that would be an absolute disaster.

Mayfields game doesn't translate to the nfl as a quality starter imo.  When he's not on his spot he doesn't have an nfl arm.  And against nfl defenders he isn't going to be quick enough to get out of the pocket and re-establish a good launch point like he could in college.

And even though barkley is a stud, no way should we take a rb in the top 4 overall picks.

take rosen and then trade the #4 overall....

If we don't get Kirk Cousins, which nobody on earth expects us to do, the ONLY THING I care about regarding the #1 pick is getting our top rated QB. I don't care where the analysts say this guy should go. I don't care if everyone calls us idiots. I don't care if this QB would've been available in the SECOND round, I just want us to identify our favorite QB, and DRAFT HIM #1. Don't get cute. Don't try to maximize the pick value. Don't try to put "your stamp on the draft". Identify your favorite guy, and freaking take him. We can do this because we have the #4, which hardly any other team has EVER had. We actually get to safely take our top QB and still get to play around with early picks.

Cant believe I get only a B+ for this lol. Ton of trade downs then packaging like crazy for multiple move ups. Best secondary in football and a damn good chance at 2 FQB's AND a beast running back.

Still love FirstPick... As I do every year I pick for other teams, mostly AFCN and the Texans, to see what the sim does for us. Have a bout a dozen in all that have been done over the past month. Here's a summary:

  • #1.01... It's always a QB. Most of the time it's Rosen... very early Allen popped up in one (the very first one)... lately Mayfield and Darnold have popped up more.
  • #1.04... early on WRs were taken here, usually Ridley, but Sutton once in a while... lately, post Combine, it's been Barkley... Barkley... and Barkley... or Minkah. The sim has never traded down the #4.
  • Once the sim traded back up into late-R1 and it was for Jaire Alexander, CB, Louisville
  • #2.01... More variety here as you'd expect, but one name has appeared more than any other post-Combine... DJ Moore (WR)... I'd love him here, but am not sure he gets out of Rnd 1. Early Isaiah Oliver, CB, Colorado was a popular choice. In drafts where Barkley was not the 4th pick, then Guice was often taken here.
  • In general the sim was more active trading in the second... up and down, but mostly adding picks.

Anyway it's a fun exercise that doesn't take much time since there's less concern about "getting it perfect" for another team. Plus it helps you see what our Div opponents may be needing and brings up some names for us that you might not have considered. Couple examples of the latter are:

  • Round 5 Pick 22 (150) Browns: Olasunkanmi Adeniyi, DE/OLB, Toledo
  • Round 6 Pick 9 (169) (MIA) Browns: Joel Iyiegbuniwe, ILB, Western Kentucky

Here's the highest scoring sim draft for us:

COMPUTER: 3. Cleveland Browns - 23006
Round 1 Pick 1 (1) Browns:  Rosen, Josh (QB) UCLA
Round 1 Pick 4 (4) Browns:  Barkley, Saquon (RB) Penn State
Round 2 Pick 1 (33) Browns:  Moore, DJ (WR) Maryland
Round 2 Pick 3 (35) Browns:  Alexander, Jaire (CB) Louisville
Round 3 Pick 3 (67) (IND) Browns:  Shepherd, Nathan (DT) Fort Hays State
Round 4 Pick 9 (109) (DEN) Browns:  Holland, Jeff (OLB) Auburn
Round 4 Pick 14 (114) Browns:  Watts, Armani (FS) Texas AM
Round 4 Pick 23 (123) Browns:  Thomas, Chad (DE) Miami (FL)
Round 5 Pick 22 (159) Browns:  Edmunds, Terrell (SS) Virginia Tech
Round 5 Pick 23 (160) (DEN) Browns:  Scales, Tegray (ILB) Indiana
Round 5 Pick 24 (161) (CAR) Browns:  Conklin, Tyler (TE) Central Michigan
Round 6 Pick 1 (175) Browns:  Quessenberry, Scott (C) UCLA
Round 6 Pick 23 (197) (CAR) Browns:  Toth, Brett (OT) Army
Round 7 Pick 1 (219) Browns:  Coutee, Keke (WR) Texas Tech

Rolling with Taylor and adding defense and offensive weapons. A "B" grade on Sutton in the 2nd is ridiculous. He goes in the 1st in real life.

If his medical checks out Nick Chubb in the 2nd is far far better value than Barkley in the top 10

Here we are agreeing again..Aub.RB Kerryon Johnson may fall under that same medical check? Am having the hardest time separating all the good backs that may push down to Dorsey's separating round of choice..I have no issue with Dukes game on the field so that's not what I want to see replaced. So I rank them as a)D.Guice,b)Kerryon Johnson,c)Nick Chubb,d)Sony Michel,f)R.Penny. RB at USC is Duke Johnson imo ..so in top of 2nd does Dorsey dare start the run at RB's or slide up into C.Kirks than take backs left later in 2nd? sometimes it's good to be the dealer that starts with the lead?

Seriously doubt that, Ag.

Right now I see two WRs going in R1: DJ Moore and Calvin Ridley. And more and more I think they go in that order.

Ridley hurt his draft stock at the combine. There's even a chance he falls out of the 1st via the combo of his falling stock and other position players rising.

Well Kirk helped his. He was a catching fool in the gauntlet drills.

Yes he did... but he's still 5'10 and his drill results were not stunning enough to keep him in R1... IMO. I think he's one of those prospects that measured so "average-ish" that he's sent folks back to the tape to see how he did what they saw him do.

Never say never tho... if a WR run starts late, no telling how many get swept up in that.
