mjp28
I never will do two things in my life 1. make new year's resolutions or 2. get involved with a mock draft......OK I broke #2 already from the SEC Country mock draft (they can't be wrong, ever right?). NFL mock draft 2018, Round 1 Cleveland Browns: Sam Darnold, USC QB: The Browns have to use the pick on a quarterback, and we think they’ll choose Darnold. New York Giants: Josh Rosen, UCLA QB: Rosen vs. Darnold will be an interesting debate. The UCLA quarterback might be wired to better succeed in New York than Darnold. Indianapolis Colts: Connor Williams, Texas T: For the Colts, it’s simple: They must do a better job of protecting Andrew Luck, provided he can return in 2018. As long as Williams can stay healthy, he’ll be a top draft pick. Cleveland Browns (via Houston): Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama DB: The Browns went quarterback with their first pick. Next up, they grab the best defensive prospect in the class. Fitzpatrick is a queen-on-the-chessboard-type of defensive back. Denver Broncos: Josh Allen, Wyoming QB: Offensive tackle could be the pick here. Drafting Allen here is a risk, but the Denver quarterback situation might be the worst in the league. New York Jets: Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma QB: The Jets will continue toiling in mediocrity as long as they lack quality quarterback play. If anyone can handle the spotlight and attention that comes with playing for the Jets, it’s the Heisman Trophy winner. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Bradley Chubb, N.C. State DE: The Buccaneers have stumbled this season thanks to both Jameis Winston’s struggles and a poor pass rush. Chubb should help shore up the latter of their issues. Chicago Bears: Christian Kirk, Texas A&M WR: The Bears almost have to pick a wide receiver. While many will peg Alabama’s Calvin Ridley here, I think Kirk is just a little bit better. But the Bears couldn’t go wrong with either. San Francisco 49ers: Saquon Barkley, Penn State RB: With Jimmy Garoppolo looking like the quarterback of the future, San Francisco can draft the best player available, which is the superstar running back from Penn State. Oakland Raiders: Roquan Smith, Georgia LB: A defense with Khalil Mack on it shouldn’t be as bad as Oakland’s was this season. Smith is maybe the best off-ball linebacker prospect since Luke Kuechly WRONG! Why no WR/RB? But then again they do not know if the BROWNS will get another quarterback through other means I'd sure hate to see yet another true rookie QB get thrown into the fire to take two or three years to develop and get killed in the process especially with no steady (or any) WRs that can actually catch the damn ball or run a deep route. Trade the #1 pick and get another first round pick and more good picks? And what if Flash Gordon falls off the wagon plus he could use a good #2 WR anyway. Oh this is going to be fun for the next three months!

I have an answer, if I may, for all those who say he won't drop that low or he won't last till the 2nd, 3rd, or whatever. If you look at or combine all the decent mock drafts and big boards the pundits put out, there are around 40-50 good players who any of which could conceivably go in the first. Thus, some of them have to drop unexpectedly. We never know who they will be, but any of them could have been taken earlier. Thus, to say he won't last that long, may be true, but then again he may be the 10-15 who do fall. That is why every mock draft appears at first like that could never happen. PoeticG
Ran that one back, managed to move around a little and picked up another 1st for next year. This would be ideal. The franchise RB. The stud CB/FS... gotta start rebuilding the secondary somewhere. Vita Vea actually took over for Shelton at Washington when Shelton went pro, and he's a big ol' monster. Imagine Garrett, Vea, Shelton and Ogbah as the front four! Daaamn. Then we picked up a heck of a playmaker with Mayfield, who may actually turn out to be the best QB in this draft class. Cobbs Jr. is a nice WR, tall and has hands. Oliver is a CB that I'm really starting to like. Penny would be a complimentary back to Barkley and also return kicks and punts. With Tabor going to Chicago maybe a new kicker is in order. Daniel Carlson appears to be the best kicker in the draft. Street is a beast, squatting 700lbs! Our D-Line would be unstoppable. jiggins7919
It's easy to say that our new GM won't trade down because it's what every other GM did and failed at, but these guys all believe they're the smartest person in the room, so I'm thinking there will be SOME shaking and baking in the first round. And why not? We have two insanely high picks...there's a chance it might make sense to gather a few more resources in 2019. We do this right and we could build a team full of 1st and 2nd round talent for years to come. I think the main thing is not to trade down TOO far. I mean, if we somehow sign Kirk Cousins, do we really need to pick 1 and 4? What if we could trade down from 1 to somewhere like 12 and get a 2019 first rounder and still get the #1 WR on our board? I'm the first one to say I don't believe we have a chance in heck to get Cousins, but I've been wrong before (ask my wife). More realistically, we're drafting a QB at 1, and taking Minkah Fitzpatrick at 4. It'd be pretty tough to beat that. Grab a RB, DB, and WR in round 2....and we're filling some major holes. And that's not even considering what we do in FA, which I believe will be a solid effort. Probably corner, WR (Pryor, Landry?), QB and who knows what else. I'm pretty stoked.
