What happened to Youngstown St.   They had been at some point ranked in the Top 5.  They must have taken a dive.

Mercer at No. 1 Alabama, noon, SEC Network

Louisiana-Monroe at No. 6 Auburn, noon, ESPN2

The above is why I often have little respect for SEC schools.  Mercer isn't even in the FBS.

I thought that was a misprint!

Mercer? Lke the great Johnny Mercer the old songwriter......and it's not even week 1.

Well being I've seen or listed to every game and Bo Pelini TV show this year I have some thoughts on the matter.

Talked with the strength and conditioning coach during the season when you're banged up and go to a national championship game you lose several valuable weeks of your offseason conditioning and recovery program. YSU's starting QB wasn't quite right and they were quickly down to their 3rd string QB which hurt, good runner not passer and a TE as his backup this season. Plus every team has you circled on their  schedule  (just ask the Indians).

The conference currently has SIX ranked teams in it, toughest in the USA by far! YSU opened with D-1A PITT and took them to OT and sustained a few injuries later they played three consecutive top 10 teams, two on the road and two went OT, YSU lost 3 games by 11 total points and were still ranked......but the next game they were totally whipped and lost 35-0, the worst lost in Bo's career, he even looked whipped.....he's an unbelievably driven guy, NC Game in year two last year.

So you're now surprisingly 5-5 instead of 7-3 or even 8-2 as the TV announcers mentioned over the past few weeks and will be 6-5 this weekend and everybody wondered "what happened", well now you know.  ;)

An issue here is that the Big Ten, Pac 10 and Big 12 all play  9 conference games....yet the ACC and the SEC play only 8.  While sometimes the 4 non conf games can result in great matchups....more often or not that extra game is just so the SEC and ACC teams can carbo load up on more cupcakes...like what we have seen this past week.

As far as I am concerned....the committee should hold it against any team that schedules an FCS cupcake.   How? Not sure.  Perhaps say that if  there is a choice between taking an ACC/SEC member into one of the final spots in the CFP or a Big Ten/Pac 10/Big 12 member....you disallow the ACC/SEC member.   In essence...you count their wins over an FCS team actually as a half game loss.
