I would stay downtown but I'd also (as a father) think about security situations. people hate each other in this country now more than ever. Only time mfers have never FDA with me on some 'mass' transit is when I walked into a 6 train bleeding from head to toe looking like dan akroyd eating raw fish dressed as santa.and that's comin from Brooklyn ny. There are parts of Cleve that'd make those thugs cry. Biz men with briefcases won't give up seats for preg women or old people so imagine you victims. Cab it and lock the freaking doors.

Yes.  Definitely don't wander too far east.  Not kidding.

How far East? I didn't intend to get east of the lakefront airport. We've been in some pretty rough areas in the past and try to keep track of our surroundings.

As long as you stay in the Downtown area, you should be good too go.  It's well patrolled by the Police.  But you get out past say E.30th and you run into some very rough areas.

Thanks again and the map is helpful. Looks like we probably wo t go east of 9th, how are the flatts? I assume pretty safe since west?

... until you get to University Circle. Not that there aren't some pretty rough geeks out there...

The lower pound will be pretty rowdy. I have enjoyed it in the past by myself or with some of my friends. I did NOT enjoy it when my wife was there, some people are unable to draw the line. I would likely be comfortable taking a 14 yo son in the lower pound though but that depends on your values I think. If rowdy cussing and beering it up is something you want to shelter them from pass on the pound.

By the time that game rolls around I suspect you can find some damn nice sets of lower sidelines from the 20 down to the goal line really cheap. I sit in 138 row 17  and love the game experience.

Definitely don't miss the Science Museum and Rock Hall. There is also the casino if that is your thing, not something I enjoy.

So by the looks of the attendance yesterday, there looks like there are seats available.  Think I can sit in the pound for the 1st half and if its too bad just move to an empty seat?

Ironically when I went we had troubl with some guys who were sitting in our seats, our accents only made him angrier :D

Flats are fine. BTW, if you like beer, heading to West 25th to check out Great Lakes Brewing is well worth the visit. They're not a micro brewery anymore. Their stuff is so good, they've expanded into the "small" brewery status. Even if you don't make it out there, definitely try one of their brews while your in town. Virtually every downtown bar will have at least one of theirs on tap.

As I said earlier... Uber on over to W 25th... an oasis with a DMZ from it to the river.

Trolley/light-rail running from flats to stadium is handy... or was. I assume it's still in operation.

I was in Virginia not long ago. Stopped into the hotel pub for some grub.  One of the beers they had on tap was Great Lakes Elliot Ness.  So yes, Great Lakes has gone big time.  It ain't a local brew no more.

The trip is finally here and we are preparing for the weather on Sunday. Are there any bars that are a must to hit prior to the Cavs or Browns game?  We get in tomorrow around 11 and will have some time to kill before the Cavs. Game. Thanks

city tap is always pretty chill dude. there's a bunch of them to choose from. east 4th places are always fun, but tend to be pricier.

Thanks. Really enjoying Campbell. Not maseeny coaches can take a qb who really hasn't played and beat the #3 team on the road. My wife is a chiefs fan due to kc being a couple hour drive, I've started to follow Hunt this year. I believe Matt recruited him and he's impressive. Hoping to bring that level of talent to Ames.

Ames, Iowa anytime I see or hear that I remember the small NAVY pennant my dad had from there, that's where he went for  his electrical training just before WWII in 1940 I believe.

On your Cleveland trip I used to go a lot in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s but not recently so listen to the locals here and you should be fine. I hope you enjoy your stay and have a great time.  GO BROWNS, win one for the fans, now that would be nice! ;)

Winking Lizard on 9th and Prospect. Local chain but good. Decent pub food.

If you want to Tailgate, head to the Burke or Muni Lots game day. If not wander down West 6th and find a place to your liking.  :)

The burgers are great in winking lizard and the beers very reasonably priced I’ll second that one. If you’re up early and a bit cold for tailgating then Panini’s opposite the lizard is open from early am pre match serving beer pizza and sandwiches.

Pizza and beer for breakfast over there was fine by me, I had no complaints :)

The Clevelander Pub next door should also be open but their kitchen didn’t open until a bit later

I wanted to follow up on our first time in Cleveland. WE WILL BE BACK!  We've been all over the country and numerous Caribbean islands, this was one of our best trips.  The hospitality of the Clevelanders was second to none. Everybody was extremely nice and helpful. We really enjoyed downtown, 4th street was a lot of fun. Westside market had some of the best produce we've every seen, and a portion of the cost. The Cavs games was amazing and our hotel couldn't be beat. The Jags stayed there and we joked about pulling fire alarms all night to possibly help the Browns. We didn't get around early enough to tailgate on sunday due to early checkout, but the Dawg Pound was awesome and even my 12 year old daughter is now a Browns fan. Fans mentioned coming back in the summer and visiting the islands on Lake Erie and we are going to check it out and for sure be to at least 1 Browns game each year going forward. You are all very fortunate for what you have, look out once the Browns turn the corner!

As a side note, being a big 12 fan, I'm hoping they stay away from Mayfield. Reminds me a lot of Johhny...  Kizer may come around, but the 4 turnovers really killed them.

I am hoping someone can help me out.  I am a lifelong Browns fan from Iowa.  I've been though the ups and downs and still wear my Metcalf jersey every Sunday.  For my sons birthday in November we booked a trip to Cleveland to watch his basketball team (Calvs) on Friday night and my Browns on Sunday.  I've always wanted to sit in the Dawg Pound and intend to for the game against the Jags.  My question is, my kids are 14 and 12, should my wife and kids sit with me and is it kid friendly in the pound?  Any advice for the Cavs game or anything else we should do while we are there?  We fly in on the 17th landing at 10am and leave Sunday the 19th at 8pm.  Thanks in advance, GO BROWNS

I'm a Lions fan, but I live in Ohio, so I've been to a few Browns games. Theirs nothing like that walk to the stadium on game day. Probably one of the best atmospheres in sports. Like others have said make sure you get up the Rock n Roll HOF. If you got time the Pro Football HOF isn't real far either and worth the trip.

As far as the Cavs my advice would be, start liking a real team like the Celtics. Cavs suck and Lechoke is a bum.

And don't forget one of the best Cedar Point! Allow some time for that one, Glad you had a great time. mjp

I can't second this enough, we drank with locals for two days, one of my friends was taken to a strip joint by locals we met in a bar near the stadium. Some other things to ad as well, it's just the best place. After two years off now, I am determined to be back next year cheering on a team that all of a sudden, looks pretty good........and Josh Rosen
