Stunner! Detroit Tigers trade Justin Verlander to Houston Astros for 3 prospects

Anthony Fenech | Detroit Free Press
Updated 1 hour ago
It was the deal that had to happen, a match made in heaven for two organizations trending in much different directions.

In exchange for Verlander, the Tigers received right-hander Franklin Perez, outfielder Daz Cameron (son of former Gold Glove outfielder Mike Cameron) and catcher Jake Rogers. The financial terms of the deal – thought to be a sticking point throughout the two months’ worth of negotiations – are not known, though USA Today’s Bob Nightengale is reporting the Tigers are paying the Astros $8 million each of the next two seasons, or $16 million total. Verlander makes $28 million in each of the next two seasons.

Perez, 19, is considered one of the Astros’ top two pitching prospects. He is still early in his development, having advanced to Double-A this season. Perez was ranked as the No. 54 prospect in baseball by Baseball America at the beginning of the season.
Cameron, 20, is in a similar stage, an outfielder with tools who has yet to advance past Class A baseball. Cameron was a first-round pick in the 2015 draft. He is the son of former Major League Gold Glove outfielder Mike Cameron.
Rogers, 22, is a young catcher who has yet to advance past Class A ball.

Perez is the Astros' third-best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, with Cameron 9th and Rogers 11th.
The departure of Verlander means these Tigers are nearly unrecognizable. They are now a team stripped of a franchise player and are fully embracing the rebuild, which was signaled earlier Thursday when they traded leftfielder Justin Upton to the Los Angeles Angels.......

And more on the deal from girlfriend Kate Upton....

Upton revealed the rules during an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday.

“THERE’S NO SEX BEFORE A GAME — ABSOLUTELY NONE,” UPTON RESPONDED. “WHAT I’VE JUST FOUND OUT IS, IF HE PLAYS TOO WELL, THERE’S NO SEX AFTER, EITHER.” THE MODEL FURTHER EXPLAINED, “HE’S EXHAUSTED. IT’S KIND OF A BUZZKILL FOR ME.”

OK then. laugh.gif

I am sure that there are a few people out there that would be willing to help her out with that "no sex after a good game" thing if Justin isn't up to the task.

Kluber vs Sale is getting really interesting for the Cy Young Award.

Sale: 15-6, 2.77 ERA, 185.1 IP, 264 SO, 0.912 WHIP

Kluber: 14-4, 2.56 ERA, 168.2 IP, 222 SO, 0.895 WHIP

If Kluber wins the Cy Young again, he can thank his teammates who tore Sale up twice this season. Take out Sale's two starts vs the Indians, and he's "sailing" to the Cy Young Award.

Perhaps.  I may consider giving the effort if asked.

I think it's safe to say nobody from this board will be asked.....besides she's a real squirrelly nut job.

MEANWHILE the Indians have won 11 in row and have a Cy Young race going on besides a real shot at running down the once untouchable Houston team.....from Texas no less!

DETROIT -- Corey Kluber has won the AL Pitcher of the Month Award for August. He went 5-1 with a 1.96 ERA in six starts.

Kluber also won the award in June. He has won three in his career.

In August, Kluber led all qualified starters in ERA and strikeouts. Kluber struck out 54 batters in 46 innings. He allowed 10 earned runs on 23 hits with only six walks.

He helped the Indians go 19-9 in August as they started a 10-game winning streak that they took into Sunday's game against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Kluber started August with consecutive complete game wins against the Yankees and Rockies. In the two complete games, both three hitters, he struck out 11 in each game. It gave him five straight games with 11 or more strikeouts.

The former Cy Young winner went on to beat the Rays, Kansas City and the Yankees for a second time in August. Kluber's only loss came against the Red Sox on Aug. 23. He allowed two runs and struck out 12 in 7 2/3 innings. The Red Sox won, 6-1.

Kluber is 14-4 with a 2.56 ERA after beating the Tigers on Saturday night. His next start is scheduled for Thursday against the White Sox in Chicago.

Tribe will be up 10 games over Twins with 25 to go after tonight.

I heard the magic number was 18.....and wonder why Indians interest is down on TBB this year? The new format?  BROWNS super bowl contenders?

Exciting stuff here folks!

I have no idea. A topic on who will be the Browns backup long-snapper elicits more responses than anything Indians-related here.

A Cleveland company named Universal Windows Direct ran a promotion that any customer to bought anything or scheduled anything in July would get it free if the Indians won 15 or more games in a row this season.

They say they are excited about the Indians winning streak (now at 12 games), but methinks they are privately shitting bricks.

I hear that they have the whole deal insured, so it won't be that much of a loss if any to them.

I was wondering if they had done that. The 13 game win streak had stood for a looooooooooong time, so the chances of them beating it THE NEXT SEASON had to be slim.

WHOA #13 baby, 6th team ever since 1900 to do that in back-to-back seasons.....and that's a lot of baseball!

Jose Ramirez might be a serious A.L. MVP candidate.

I think he's as important to this team as Lindor, who gets way more pub.

Yes, Lindor earned his national cred with his season and exposure in the World Series but this year he tried being Thome earlier on but has settled down some lately.

Jose should be in the serious talk and practically unanimously the Indians MVP......OH BTW Tribe's up 1-0 top 4, scored first in the last 14 games is it? If anyone's paying attention which you should.  ;)
