Mr. T
GM should not be taking taxpayers' money simply to finance the outsourcing of jobs to other countries," Alan Reuther, the union's Washington lobbyist, wrote in a letter to U.S. lawmakers. The United Auto Workers charged last week that the Detroit automaker intends to almost double over the next five years the number of vehicles it imports to the U.S. from Mexico, South Korea, China and Japan. Full article Here: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090514/D985PEDO0.html As Obama continues to Tax and make demands while adding more and more regulations on some of our largest Industries the auto maker who are also involved in the manufaturing of transportation vehicles of our armed forces, they will have to move their factories outside the United States just to survive. The only thing left for them is cheaper labor, all because Government cant stop their socialist behavior of trying to control all aspects of every business. What does that pose to all of us in the name of national Security if these practices of bullying businesses continue? In time of war will we be able to manufacture vehichles, Tanks or planes if the greater part of our factories are sent packing to other countries? All we have to do is take a look at history right here in the US during the civil war and how the industrialized north had an advantage over the south, and we all know what that resulted in. Ask yourself why it is so easy to take over a smaller country that dosn't have the resources that we have right here in America. Will the movement of losing all of our factories result in America to become like a third world nation? Let alone all of the smaller and mid sized factories who will end up closing shop due to factories here no longer needing to buy parts from. Mr. T
The Government should of let them and Chrysler file bankruptcy 6 months ago, all they did is loot the taxpayers once again. GM & Chrysler both knew they woulld be filing. The only smart one was Ford. Thank God thats all I own. I dont buy foreign cars and never had, I have never been a union man either, I just believe in supporting my american neighbor.
Mr. T
Chrysler went through bankruptcy in the 80's, they survived then and can do it again. Thats the whole reason for them filing, to get the creditors off their back. calfoxwc
This may sound corny but even though Cal slammed the quality of my purchase I felt really good driving out of the dealership having bought an American made vehicle and in a very small way helping the economy. Buy American really means something to all of us right now. Dan ****************************************************** Sorry, Dan - I didn't mean to slam your purchase. But Chrysler cars are rated low, bigtime. And the suv, more notably the Jeep Cherokee, is known for years to be tipover dangerous if a quick move is made on the highway, and one of the worst rated vehicles on dependability. Dodge vans and trucks will last almost forever. We have a Grand Caravan with 200,00 mi on it. It was fun to keep up - all power, etc. But now the tranny is fried, so... It was just my stupid opinion on the truck thing - and that's from about 5 yrs ago. Buying American is great. But it has to be MADE in the USA, or I don't buy it. Your newer truck will probably be excellent for years to come. Let me know if it is, you can call me an idiot. GGG

I was like that at one time, but now, with Toyota and the others building over here, you are supporting your neighbor when you buy. It's not like Ford and the others are still building all the spark plugs and plug wires over here.
Mr. T
My cousin has a metal stamping factory in Mansfield where they provide a lot of parts for the auto industry. if GM or Chrysler packs their bags and moves out of the country they will be forced to either close up shop or move their factory as well. They wont be able to afford the cost of shipping parts to be able to be competitive. Can you see the trickle down of this whole thing?
choco
when business make bad decisions, this is the result. sorry to say, but we just dont make cars as good as other countries. i bought an envoy in '03, and have had nothing but problems with it. had i not been capable of making the repairs, i would have lost my shirt paying for it..... until our automakers figure out reliability, i will not be purchasing from the big 3 ever again. Mr. T
I stopped buying the GM junk about 15 years ago, I have been buying Ford Trucks and Explorers and run the shit out of them. No major problems at all. And lets take a look at who did not take tax payer dollars and are rebounding. Ford
calfoxwc
Choco is right. When you look at consumer's confidence in quality of vehicles... American cars are not high on the list. A lot of Toyota and Honda. Somewhere along the way, (UAW?), work ethic and quality went by the wayside. I did know a guy who worked at a Chrysler plant years ago. He said he'd never buy one, the guys who worked there couldn't care less, and sometimes laughed at how they screwed things up. And a close friend leased an Envoy a few years ago. I thought to buy it after his lease was up. He said it was such a piece of junk he wouldn't sell it to anybody.
