Left-handers have been a thorn in the side of Cleveland's offense through the season's first month. That includes Tigers' lefty Daniel Norris, who will be looking to build on the success he had last time out against the Indians, when he faces Trevor Bauer and the Tribe on Monday at Comerica Park.

On the young season, southpaw starters have gone a combined 7-2 with a 2.02 ERA in 10 games against Cleveland. On April 14, Norris held the Tribe scoreless for six innings in his best outing so far this year. It is not just Norris who has confounded Cleveland's lineup, though. The Indians' .660 OPS against lefties this year is ranked 12th in the American League heading into Sunday.

"Not that we're going to point fingers and say it's somebody's fault," Indians manager Terry Francona said this past weekend, "but the guys, as they heat up, we'll have a different look to our lineup for sure."

Specifically, hitters such as Edwin Encarnacion, Carlos Santana and Brandon Guyer, have been slow out of the gates against lefty pitchers. Francona has also looked for spots to rest left fielder Michael Brantley (returning from left shoulder issues) and has picked a handful of games against left-handers to do so. It is possible that Brantley sits on Monday, or on Wednesday when lefty Matthew Boyd pitches for Detroit.

"It's not that he can't hit a lefty," Francona said, "because we love Brantley playing against anybody. But, I think our team is better situated if he sits against a lefty.".........

CLEVELAND -- Indians manager Terry Francona announced on Sunday evening that ace Corey Kluber will start Game 1 of the World Series against the Cubs on Tuesday night, and the right-hander will be followed by Trevor Bauer and Josh Tomlin in Games 2 and 3.

Not a good start to road trip.

Kluber, Carrasco, Salazar should give a better opportunity than Bauer. Your usual goal in road trips is to try to do .500 or better.

I do think that the Tigers will be a little bit more fired up after getting thoroughly embarrassed by the tribe last year.

...Indians manager Terry Francona noted that Kluber has been dealing with the back issue for a while now, and indicated that the team would re-evaluate the pitcher on Wednesday. It is possible that a trip to the disabled list might be in order, especially given that the timeframe for stints on the shelf has been reduced to a 10-day minumum.

The 10-day window would allow Kluber to only miss one start.

"It can be a factor," Francona said. "I don't think we want to rush [into a decision]. We'll just talk to him [Wednesday]. I think the best thing to do is wait and see how he shows up. We want to be fair to him and make good decisions. It's hard to do that tonight when a guy just pitched and he's still hot. We'll wait.".......

.......Part of the discussion will surely center around Triple-A right-hander Mike Clevinger, who started for Columbus on Tuesday night and logged six solid innings. Clevinger, who is considered the sixth starter on the Indians' depth chart, has a 1.50 ERA with 32 strikeouts and 10 walks in 30 innings this year.

Not only is Clevinger in line to potentially take Kluber's next start, but that outing would fall on Sunday against the Royals, who rank last in the Majors with a .608 OPS as a team. If Kluber were to land on the DL, he would be eligible to return on May 13, and Cleveland would not technically need a fifth starter until May 16 (thanks to a team off-day on May 11).......

The Royals and Indians just might see the best-dressed crowd of the year Sunday on the annual Salute to the Negro Leagues Day at Kauffman Stadium.

In what has become an increasingly popular attraction over the past several years, fans are encouraged to come "Dressed to the Nines". That was the tradition in the era of the Negro Leagues when fans would come to the ballpark wearing their finest.

For the respective ballclubs, the fashion statement will be throwback uniforms. The Royals will wear the uniforms of the Kansas City Monarchs as the Royals and Negro Leagues Baseball Museum celebrate the 75th anniversary year of the Monarchs' 1942 championship. The Indians will wear throwback Cleveland Buckeyes uniforms.

Fans can bid on the replica Negro Leagues uniforms after the game at royals.com/NLBM or mlb.com/auction. Additionally, some of the game-worn uniforms and helmets will be available for auction online and game-worn hats will be available by silent auction Sunday at the Royals Authentics store. Proceeds from the uniform, hat and helmet auctions will be donated to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

Indians manager Terry Francona had a chance to tour the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum when he was managing in Boston.

"We got the personal tour, and it was fascinating," Francona said.

On the field, it'll be Mike Clevinger making his Major League season debut for the Indians while Royals lefty Danny Duffy tries to bounce back from a rough outing against the White Sox.

Three things to know about this game

• When Duffy took the loss last Tuesday in a 6-0 loss to Chicago, it snapped a streak of 16 consecutive home starts without a loss.

• Clevinger will be working on regular four days' rest. He last started for Columbus on Tuesday when he allowed one run over six innings.

• The Nos. 7-9 hitters are hitting .333 against Duffy this season.

Edwin Encarnacion returns to Toronto on Monday, and the homecoming figures to be pleasant.

"I'm happy to go back," Encarnacion said Sunday through Indians translator Anna Bolton.

Encarnacion was a power-hitting force for six years with the Blue Jays before opting to sign with Cleveland as a free agent last winter.

Asked if he anticipates there will be a nice reception from the fans for Encarnacion, Indians manager Terry Francona took note of the impressive track record that Encarnacion compiled with the Blue Jays.

"I would hope so," Francona said. "All that he did up there ... but I hope he does something to break their hearts."

Encarnacion will be facing a tough right-hander in Marcus Stroman while the Indians will counter with right-hander Trevor Bauer, who will be working on extra rest. Bauer hasn't pitched in a week since being knocked out early in a 7-1 loss to Detroit.

Three things to know about this game

• Bauer has made three career starts against Toronto, going 1-1 with a 6.27 ERA in those games.

• Bauer is trying to atone for a rocky outing last time out. He allowed seven runs on seven hits in just four innings in that start against the Tigers.

• Stroman already has two complete games. Four other American League pitchers have one each.

Where is the offense?

CLE 17 14 .548 -

MIN 15 14 .517 1.0

CWS 15 15 .500 1.5

DET 15 15 .500 1.5

KC 11 20 .355 6.0

Kind of amazing or maybe strange Cleveland in their current power outage is in first place same as St. Louis at 17 wins, all the other first place teams in MLB have 21 wins.

If or maybe when they get hot together look out ALC teams!
