Obama Earth Day Flights Burned More Than 9,000 Gallons Of Fuel

It happens every time a president leaves town to make an Earth Day speech. Reporters scramble to point out how much fuel was expended so the President could talk about conserving energy and using alternative fuels.

In flying to and from Iowa today, President Obama took two flights on Air Force One and four on Marine One.

The press office at Andrews AFB wouldn’t give me the fuel consumption numbers for the 747 that serves as Air Force One without the approval of the White House Press Office, which as I write this has yet to be given.

But Boeing says its 747 burns about 5 gallons of fuel per mile. It’s 895 miles from Washington to Des Moines, so a round trip brings the fuel consumption for the fixed-wing portion of the President’s trip to 8,950 gallons.

The trip also put President Obama on Marine One for round-trip flights between the White House and Andrews AFB and between Des Moines International Airport and Newton, Iowa, site of his Earth Day speech. It totaled about an hour of flight time. The VH-3D that serves as Marine One consumes about 1200 pounds of fuel per hour which comes out to about 166 gallons consumed flying the President today.

Not included in these calculations are the presidential vehicles that took him the short distance from the landing zone in Newton to the event site at the Trinity Structural Towers Manufacturing Plant.

In his speech there, President Obama called for a “new era of energy exploration in America.”

At a plant that manufactures the towers for wind turbines, he urged Americans to support his plan for promoting expanded use of alternative and renewable fuels.

And he announced that for the first time, the Interior Department would be leasing federal waters for projects to generate electricity from wind and ocean currents.

President Obama could have saved at least 9,116 gallons of fuel by giving his speech at the White House – but no wind turbines are manufactured here.

Liberals/Socialists are so full of crap! Nothing more than political posturing. But they want the complete control, any issue they can wrap a flag around and trying to be so caring while they are off being just as big of the problm that they create.

But they want the complete control.

Yeah, you and your gang of 'tards don't want complete control? Come on.

Losing sucks, and now you shall see the business end of your loss. Deal with it. It seems as if all of you have the mental strength to come through these next eight years sane, happy and safe...

Every President has flown to somewhere, with an entourage to give some ridiculous speech or take part in some dog & pony, on every Earth Day since its inception. Not sure why Barry's trip is anymore ridiculous than the previous ones?

Hell, we got more clearly defined results out of this trip than we did from the European Vacation, or the trip to the Caribbean.

Then again most other presidents haven't been preacking doom due to global warming caused by jet fuel emissions......

Kinda like driving to a nationwide MADD neeting sipping from a bottle of Jack.

Heard of tu quoque, Steve?

It is a fallacy.

Yes it is, but only if he was using it to dismiss global warming. I don't think he was or ever has.

He was just commenting on the lack of sincerity of the "preacher." The do as I say, not as I do riff. Which is all I was commenting on also.

It's precisely the reason I tattoo Gore at every opportunity. He's a fat slob and a worthless pile of insincere shit. I know some (most) on your side of the aisle refuse to see him in that light, but let me simplify it for you:

Recall the overwhelming sense of satisfaction & joy you felt when we found out that Ted Haggard was banging horses or boys or whatever it was he was doing. The sense of pride you got when you got to puff up your chest and shout, "Hypocrite!" from the mountaintops (or newspapers or blogs or message boards).

Not you, personally, but you get the idea.

Same thing.

Yes I have but in honesty I'd forgotten exactly what it was.

I looked it up.

Way to miss the point peeb.

I've never ever said that global warmiing is a complete myth.

I DO say that it's causes and their relative inmpact and or contribution is up for discussion.

I DO say that proposed solutions are suspect and worthy of scrutiny.

But the point is that if the lefties want Al Gore to be the spiritual leader on the subject then the stupid toad shopuld strive to be AT LEAST as enegy conscious as the devil incarnate, George Bush who didn't use the environment as a club.

Yeah I think if Obammy wants us to tighten the belt lets see some leadership from the old empty suit.

And before anybody scolds me for mentioning the blowhard oaf Gore remember that it's YOU lefties who brag about his faux Nobel prize as you cringe in embarrassment watching his stupid fearmongering movie.

It is funny how all the Obama worshippers behave. This must be the new talking points of attack from the left. Your love for liberalism and with the current administration will bring down American Capatalism.

Coming Soon: a speech from Your Lord Obama, on "The new Capatalism of America." He might as well say we are now all Socialists.

Watch over the next 10 days and dont tell me I didnt tell you.
