calfoxwc
Well, We went to Indiana over the weekend, met the father-in-law's cousins' families over Easter. We fished in his beautiful pond, caught a few big bluegill and one largemouth bass. Sat around Easter dinner, and the cousin started telling stories about his family. The cousin was much too young to enlist in the service during WWII, but as a young boy, he was captivated by the intense drama and importance of winning the war against such a dangerous and hideous enemy. He read every news clipping he could find, listened to his radio much of the time. Well, he lived on a 300 acre farm, and decided that if the nazis invaded Indiana, he was going to be ready for them to protect his family. He dug a lot of fox holes, made toy guns, etc all over the farm. This went on for the first half of WWII. And more and more, his foxholes became tunnels just underground for as far as 10 feet sometimes. The day came, when his Dad was walking their big old cow back to the barn from across the field, and lo and behold, his Dad AND the cow had the ground collapse under them ...they both fell into one of the boy's biggest fox holes. The farmer and his cow ended up okay, with just bumps and bruises. So, as he tells it, he spent the second half of WWII filling all the foxholes back up again. Well, I thought it was pretty funny...
