The Gipper
And here is the last one......as noted....I tried to go outside my box for a song: Beyonce. Though I guess with these lyrics, any number of songs may have applied. But this is the one I had in mind.

Westside Steve
Of course the motels nor Roy, are singing about the lonely and not for them. I didn't think you specified Springsteen quotes, my mistake. Unless of course you have edited that. WSS

The Cysko Kid
You certainly didn't specify Simon and Garfunkel. Thereby still validating my answer for 4.

The question was "where are the words of the prophet written". Answer for SOS by S&G is "on the subway walls and tenement halls". You said "subway walls and concert halls". Is there a variation on these lyrics on some other song or cover? I didn't see where you cited that. Show it.

The Cysko Kid
I have a hard time believing musicians and rock fans are unfamiliar with the spirit of radio by rush. Even if you don't like rush all you have to do is listen to 98.5 for a couple hours and you're guaranteed to hear it.
The Cysko Kid
The lyric, near the end of the song is: The words of the prophets are written on the subway wall...concert hall...(short instrumental break) and it echoes with the sound of salesmen of salesmen of salesmen
Westside Steve
? Ok I guess you talking about a version that somebody else did and changed the words. A parody? Okay. I never heard it, didn't know there was one. WSS
The Cysko Kid
It's not a parody steve. It's a rock classic that gets tons of airplay all the time. Jesus h. Christ

Westside Steve
It's not a parody steve. It's a rock classic that gets tons of airplay all the time. Jesus h. Christ Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sound Of Silence" contains the lyrics: "For the words of the prophets were written on the subway walls, and tenement halls... and echo with the sound of silence." These are parodied by Neil Peart into, "For the words of the prophets are written on the studio wall, and concert halls.... and echo with the sound... of salesmen." Rush has been accused of taking themselves too seriously, but references like this show how they were slyly aware of the context in which they performed. That they could take themselves lightly was further borne out by their 2008 appearance on The Colbert Report. From the song facts website.
