Cleveland Browns lose Jason Wright to Cardinals

CLEVELAND -- Browns running back and special teams core player Jason Wright has agreed to a two-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals for about $2 million.

Wright will replace J.J. Arrington, who signed with Denver, as the Cardinals' third-down back. The Arizona coaches believe Wright will be an upgrade in pass protection and on special teams.

"It's just a great opportunity for Jason to go to a team that went to the Super Bowl last year," agent Mike McCartney said. "We feel Arizona is a good fit for him."

The Browns did make an offer to retain Wright, McCartney said.

Wright's rushing totals were down last year (23 carries, 85 yards) as the Browns gave more opportunities to Jerome Harrison and Josh Cribbs. But the blitz-pickup specialist still participated in more than 30 percent of the offensive snaps in 2008.

Wright also had 22 catches and was a regular on most of the special teams.

"Jason leaves with tremendous feelings about the Browns," McCartney said.

Watch that video and tell me you aren't a Jason Wright fan. He was completely average, but played hard and is a genuinely good person. I remember reading somewhere that he is planning to go to medical school with the money he earns in the NFL.

Good luck, Jason.

"Blitz Pickup" is what he was known for. On the other hand, if you see him in there, you know it's going to be a pass (most of the time)...just a thought.

don't get me wrong he did pick up blitzes well... but it tipped our hand a lil when he was in there

23 carries for 85 yards?!?! Not going to miss this kid... now maybe we can get a better look that that Allen Patrick kid...

He was a monster blitz picker-upper. . . and averaged more YPC than Lewis did, eh! Most of all I'm going to miss his leadership, dedication, work ethic, and his smarts. Easily one of the smartest players on the Browns team. . . which is why I'm surprised ManKok let him get away.

I think the video posted above is a great representation of why I wanted to keep him around.

I"m in no way bashing JW. He's a very good individual and seems to be genuwine. I just feel that Harrison has a better upside.. I do with Jason the best with hit future football career and good luck in med school if that's true..

I want Hakeem Nicks in RD2 and Shonne Green or Moreno if hes still there.

Round 1 is so blurry because it looks like Curry will be gone.... What do we do with the #5 pick??

I'd trade down first, but if that's not happening I'd take Rey. Some may say it's a stretch but I think he can make an impact in the middle.

What about SS, WR and Center?

How many holes do we have in comparison to picks to fill them?

Honestly if we could trade down in round 1 and get 2 first rounders out of it and grab a pair of linebackers (Rey/ C3) I'd be ecstatic, but what are the odds?

MAYBE we could even swap DA and late rounder and grab an extra 2nd, take a rb, center, guard in the 2nd, but what are the odds?

I think we can get a center in the 3rd (if we could move back in to it), might take a season or two to groom him but we can fill it.

Like I said, too many holes, not enough picks to fill them all. No matter how stellar this draft goes we're going to be left hurting somewhere.
