Mileage tax would replace gasoline tax

Anybody like this idea?

Sounds like control over people's purchases and choices to drive to personally chosen locations.

"If you want to decide like we don't want you to, then you will pay" ???

Pay more for heavier vehicles...

the charges on the trucking industry will devastate the economy even further.

And they can tax the SUV's and PICKUP trucks out of existence they think...

like Obama promised to make coal mining so expensive they can continue if they want to pay the price

and lose money...

like Obama voted to increase gun registration in Illinois to $500 ?

Inflation will skyrocket.

Control, to create dependency, and excuses to fund socialist programs... the leftist Neo-marxist credo.

Can't wait for the pendulum to swing back the other commen sense -American- direction.

Obama said today that he does not support a tax like this. Maybe it is because the 'trial balloon' turned out to be made of lead. Maybe he never liked the idea.

Who knows?

I don't know enough about the proposal to say I like it or not. Would the Federal Tax on a gallon of gas be revoked or would this 'mile tax' be incremental? Incremental to the current tax or incremental to a lower tax?

In general, I like the concept of consumption taxes so I would like to see some scenarios before I completely dismiss this concept out of hand.

My understanding is that it would be in addition to the gas tax already in place. Oregon put it in place due to the higher concentration of green population in the state purchasing and using hybrids & electric vehicles. They weren't buying as much gas, yet helping the environment and the state was losing tax revenue.

So, to paraphrase this proposal/idea:

"Thanks for doing the right thing, but we still need to put our fist in your ass."

Tenderly,

Uncle Sam

amazing the answer is to tax more to create a similar revenue stream... Maybe they need to look at road building and repairing tech. There are superior patching/repairing technologies that last 10 times longer yet are not used because than the repair companies lose revenue from the yearly service they "bid" from the states.

Another lubricated issue from special interest lobbying.

That is exactly what we have. You but a gallon of gasoline, you pay tax....you buy 100 gallons, you pay tax

These people are idiots. You might as well have different sales taxes based on your income.

We have become a nation of wimps.

Biggest a-holes on here are you, mz the pussy and Danamal. Consider that. Now go walk the streets of beautiful downtown Asstabula.

I wish it was within my power as a mod and technical savvy to add a confused button next to the THANKS feature as in "Legacy Fan is confused by this post."

As it were, I am left with a less efficient method of expressing said confusion.
