THE BROWNS BOARD

New Browns Fans Introduce Yourselves

H-Town Brown

Recommended Posts

Houston native and Texas Aggie here, and excited about my new favorite team. Manziel jersey and draft hat purchased and ready to go. I am familiar with Kyle Shanahan as a Texans season ticket holder, and (obviously) with JFF as an A&M season ticket holder, but other than that I'm a total noob. I have spent 4 days total in downtown Cleveland and had a great time -- I have told many folks that I think you have an underrated city. I hope to male the journey to watch the Browns beat the everliving s*** out of the Texans in November as well (shouldn't be too hard). Looking forward to rooting for a team making strides to actually win football games!

A few questions:

1) What websites/news outlets do I need to follow?

2) How do you feel about the new coach/GM?

3) What are the biggest obstacles facing this team in 2014 (besides the Gordon suspension)?

4) What are the top 5 Browns Twitter handles to follow?

5) What's gonna happen with the WR crew?

6) Other miscellaneous information I need to know?

Thanks in advance!

1) I just frequent here, the NFL app and the bleacher report app. I seem to have missed nothing on the Browns since doing so.

2) I feel like I'd walk into a bar with the new FO with full confidence we'd come out on the winning side of a brawl. Its a plus that they're proven coaches (I guess that should have been the first credential). My point. I have full faith in them. They're proven with multiple teams, they want to be here (Farmer turned down a garanteed GM position with Miami), and they check the pussy shit at the door.

3) Keeping JFF on the bench at all costs, unless Hoyers goes down, and even then, I almost still sideline him. He needs a year to fully learn the system and develop the instincts in the pocket if he hopes to last through his first year as a starter.

4) I cant yelp ya here. Im in my 20s but social media never really peaked my interest.

5) Gordon will hopefully get a 6 game suspension, we hopefully get an actual #2 WR tomorrow, one that isn't put in just because we need one, but because he has legitimate skills. Theres a few of those left. Then I assume we address the number 1 WR position next year. No faith in Gordon. Cameron should see increased targets.

6) A seemingly innocent opinion may turn a thread into the wild west in here. Have tough skin and bite back. Shit, just have tough skin. You're a Browns fan now. Factory of Gladness has been one season away since I was in grade school. Be prepared to buy new jerseys every year if you're a jersey guy. I got a Winslow jersey from a buddy one year and never even got to wear it.

Thats all I have.

Thanks for the info. Tough skin won't be an issue.

On Gordon, isn't a 1 year suspension the norm for this offense?

On JFF - I've followed him since high school. Didn't think he could do it in college. Hell I wanted Jameill Showers to start over him before his heisman season. First 3 games against patties I didn't think he could do it against SEC competition. Thought the first time he took a hit it would end him. Then I saw a linebacker get a full running start at Johnny and he just bounced off.

Bottom line -- don't doubt Manziel.

Shanahan will be a good OC for Manziel, whenever he gets the gig. Roll out passes away from pressure, using tight ends... I think it's ideal. Hell of geriatric pick 6 schaub can somewhat succeed in his offense anyone can.

Ben Tate? Solid. I honestly wished the Texans would have passed on Fosters huge contract and just signed Tate.

Well, let me start out by I am pissed the shit off Bout Gordon so my answers are going to be emotional.

1. I come here almost exclusively. Twitter is good too but I hardly am on that anymore.

2. I feel great about the new coach and GM but I am absolutely confused why they haven't drafted a WR yet. It's making me doubt the GM a little (again, emotional)

3. Losing Gordon probably dashes our playoff hopes (emotions, anyone). The biggest problem with a team that is accustomed to losing is learning how to win and how to do it consistently. That hurdle is the biggest ... And Gordon

4. Fuck man, idk. I'm not on it enough to remember. I mainly always followed Browns players.

5. They are going to suck dicks. Little has the physical skills but is an idiot with the hands of a queer holding soap in jail. Hawkins I'm excited about. Hoping they draft Abbrederis (don't think he got picked at the end of the 3rd) and Martavis in the 4th. Cameron is good and Hoyer/Manziel will need to use the shit out of him. Obviously they may have just lost a top 1-3 WR in the league. It will be tough sledding.

6. Revel in the pain. I'm sure you were a TAMU fan pre-Manziel when they weren't very good. We have one of the best fan bases in the league and are on the verge of consistent playoff contender and challenger to the preordained annually. Losing Gordon fucks that all up but hopefully it's not true just like his agent said.

We are young and show a lot of potential. Adding Gilbert was a terribly smart thing to do. We lost a handful of games because we couldn't stop anyone at the end of the game (Jax and NE come to mind immediately and I know there were more.)

Welcome to the Browns

P.S. This board is a fun bunch but definitely gives each other shit more than any board or site I peruse ... Including pornhub. Even the people you agree with 99% of the time will call you on your shit.

Been an Aggie fan for a long time. It has been tough. As it has been with the Texans. And the Astros. And the Rockets.

Several Ohio based coworkers. We drink a lot. I am on my 4th remote and 3rd phone since the start of the 2013 football season. My dogs hide during games.

Good, so you know what it's like to suck and what it's like to be filled with hope. It will prove beneficial in your new endeavor.

On Gordon, isn't a 1 year suspension the norm for this offense?

There's legalities in play that I haven't read up on because I know the media will update me eventually, but basically there are levels of offences and corresponding punishments. Word is he could face a 4-6 week suspension rather than a year. Only time will tell.

As for Manziel...he gets the check in the box in many areas:

-Confidence

-Mobility

-Sufficient arm strength

-Drive and competitiveness

There is justified concern as well:

-Size

-Pocket poise/presence

-Decision making

-Read progressions

I tried to put myself in Farmers shoes, and in doing so I came to this conclusion. They see Manziel as a winner. They took him at 22 because they knew he wasn't worth 4 or 9 at this point; he's not a day one starter. They believe they can make him a pocket passer and improve his read progressions, which both will lead to better decision making under pressure. Once that happens, I could see him getting the nod and the chance for that pick to fully pay off. He's high risk-high reward.

I am obviously extremely biased, but I do not think the risk is as high as most do. The reward, however... whoa.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cleveland sign Travis Lab hart after the draft to give JFF a familiar face on the field. He is a small receiver, and you can apply every single white receiver cliche to him. "Lunch pail guy," "coach on the field," "high motor," etc.

First, thank you for at least showing an interest in the Browns. Many JM fan boys have arrived in the past 24 hours and I believe that you are the first to actually show an interest in the team. Most have solely offered their valuable insight in to the "phenom" that is Manziel. We, or at least I, have no use for that...

So welcome and howdy...

Yes, I know the official greeting of Aggieland. My daughter and my money spent 5 years there (with her in the Corps for 4) and I stood in the student section a few Saturdays, ate Chicken Fingers at Laynes, had a beer (or two) at The Bird and more...

1. If you frequent here you'll be steered to sites over time. Of course http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/index.html is worth visiting. They'll have some interview footage that you won't find elsewhere.

2. The feeling about our HC, Mike Pettine, is cautiously optimistic. He looks to be a tough-minded, well-spoken coach with a good mind and the respect of many past players. We pretty much hold the same sentiment for our GM, Ray Farmer, with perhaps even an extra helping of optimism due to the credit he has been given for building KC's team. His day 1 performance in this draft reinforced that added dose. Day 2 not so much, but he's still a keeper so far.

3. Obstacle #1 IMO is adapting to yet another staff and new schemes on both sides.... our third in three years. It's too early to assume the WR situation will be the biggest. It's not too early to see a QB controversy brewing.

4. I sent my first tweet today so I know only one and doubt it will interest you as it was to @bhoyer6.

5. The WR situation should begin clearing up in the next presser with Farmer.

6. Misc. info... Bummie's answer works... it can get rough in here, and plenty vulgar, especially around player discussions. But with few exceptions we all get along... after all we all love the Browns.

Gig 'em...

Howdy and thanks for the welcome -- you happened to mention several of my favorite things in life in your first paragraph.

Yes we are all absolutely Manziel fan boys but I think you would be surprised at some of the legitimate Browns football discussion happening on the Texas A&M boards. I firmly believe that if Cleveland has success in the next few years with Johnny, they will end up with more fans in the state of Texas than the Texans themselves have. As you know, Ags are a passionate bunch. We mean well... mostly.

regardless, this will be a fun ride.

Agree... an A ticket if there ever was one...

And FYI, I lived in LaPorte for a long time before escaping Houston. Still visit some and watched a Browns game at a bar off of 290 just a mile or so outside the loop during a visit a couple years ago. I forget the name, but local Browns backers met there for games... good, friendly bunch.

Appears now that they meet at the Fox and Hound on Westheimer.

H-Town I have a single question for you. Are you an Astro's fan?

If so, you'll have a taste of what it means to be a Brown's fan. I'm hoping your jumping on the upswing but I feel it necessary to prepare you for the worst.

As for A&M, I can't blame y'all for jumping the Big 12, due to UT's unbelievable selfishness but I still have to hate you and Mizzou for jumping ship (especially when OSU and OU's pussy ass should've made the jump before y'all had the chance.)

However A&M has always been my second favorite Big 12 team as the first college football game I ever watched was an A&M game and, with the help of the original 12th man, I became a college football fan.

If you can do one thing for me though, don't be a common Texas douche. I know I talked some shit previously but I'm a Goddamn Browns fan for God's sake. As long as you hate UT you're good in my book.

End drunken rant. Go Thunder.

Yes I am an Astros fan, and yes fk tu.

We left the big 12 because we wanted to play real football.

And i don't know what a common Texas douche is, but I'm probably it. We good?

We good outside of the leaving the Big 12 nonsense but I'll agree to disagree on that one. Welcome.

And sorry for my Cards ruining all of those promising Astro's seasons. At least y'all are in the AL now.

Sorry again for being a dick. I'm drunk and don't get to talk shit much on here.

Let me add that I was there for the 77-0 debacle. That changed sports for me.

Holy shit I remember watching that. I'm an OSU fan so I was terrified.

Edit: After a Google I realized we got our ass beat 52-9 the previous week. I must've blocked it out. OU used to be really fucking good.

Awesome. I grew up in Baytown and work in Laporte currently. I'll have to give that bar a shot come gametime...

Lemme guess... Lee High School?

Small world made even smaller by the internet...

First, to any Ag it's TU not UT...

SAW BOSSY's HORNS OFF.... SHORT.... SHARP.... WHOOOOOP!

Second, all Ags are schooled in becoming uncommon Texas douches... it's a mandatory course... ;)

Seriously, it's an amazing campus atmosphere.

Taco -- the Pujols homer and Brad Lidge squat will be forever ingrained into my brain. He was never the same after that. Neither was I.

Tour -- actually I'm from the other Baytown HS. Lee, however, destroyed us in every sport. Are yall sure you want me as a fan?

Also, it's tu, not TU, and the horns that we are sawing off are "varsity's" --- they aren't worthy of capitalization.

New question: what's the post touchdown, in stadium celebration song?

Varsity's... really? lol...

Been too long to remember which of their five numbers they played after a TD...

And yesterday I forgot to mention my Fav Aggieland eatery yesterday... Freebirds. Really miss that place. Puts Chipotle Mexican Grill to shame...

lol... no...

My money is on our Michael Vick... minus the dog hate... I hope...

Michael Wilbon (sp?) raised one comparison that never occurred to me... Jim McMahon.

The cockiness... the competitiveness... the leadership... not the worst I've heard.

As you are from East Texas I am sure you know about the Manziel Blue... a breed of fighting cock named after his family...

I have followed Texas A&M football since Bear Bryant days in the 1950's. What you get with Johnny Manziel is not just a QB, you get the best all-around athlete who has ever played the game at A&M in over 50 years of watching them all. This kid throws so well running to his left because in high school he was a .400 + hitter as a shortstop who constantly put those left running throws to first on the money with authority. He's also a just over par golfer. And one other thing to consider, Mack Brown at UT was offering him a scholarship as a safety, not a QB. He was so confident in Mack Brown being wrong that he turned down his dream school to go to their rival and win the Heisman as he made himself the player he knew he could be. When this kid says he wants to be the best that ever played the game, he isn't boasting, he's setting a bar.

All I can say is I'm now a Brown's fan and this is going to be one of the best carnival rides any of you have ever experienced. It's been that way for the last two years of seeing him in person like nothing I have ever known in all my years of attending A&M games.

And here's one to look for in the draft next year-he's better than 2nd overall pick Luke Joeckel or 6th overall pick Jake Matthews. He started at RG when those two were the T's, then to RT when Jake went to LT and now switches to LT for his senior year. He's a faster, more athletic version of the other two. He'll be in the top 10-count on it.

We always get new fans when we draft a QB (almost every year) and I have been with the attitude of lets see it.. Texas fans with Colt, Oaky ST. fans with Weeden and so forth.... Some of us are kinda jaded. Johnny is a great College player.... Hoping he does us well.

By the way Welcome aboard.

I fully understand any scepticism. On the Aggie boards we used to call it BAS (Battered Aggie Syndrome). Two years of electricity was the jolt we needed! He took a redshirt year to get the feel of what was required playing a pro style offense under Mike Sherman. So he's had that exposure. Hopefully your coaches will find a way to blend what he brings to the table, an escape artist who can throw strikes at any angle, running any direction. Build a unit around him and he will not disappoint. Ced O already understands how to extend the blocking as Johnny extends plays, so I hope you guys get him with one of your 2 first rounders next year.

I'm glad to be now be one of those Brown's fans who also got to watch the greatest running back ever, Jim Brown. One advantage of living a nice long life. :)
