You can't see the forest through the trees, as usual. I don't give a fuck if you think pot is OK or not. The NFL has it as a banned substance and against their rules........PERIOD. Josh Selfish Gordon just told every one of his teammates, coaches, FO, Owner and ALL FANS that he doesn't give a fuck about them, or football.

Semi-agree, D... Where I disagree is that he consciously flipped off all those you cite prior to taking that alleged toke. It could have simply been a thoughtless act. A distinction without a difference? Perhaps...

Not the same gravity, but the handful of times I blazed during my time working with a testing policy in place were all social situations with alchohol flowing as well.

Josh Gordon cares about Josh Gordon, he has no obligation to anyone else, which is a shitty reality.

Selfish is an understatement, abd defending him is reprehensible.

This isn't a debate Nickers. It's a law, and a by-law of the league.

Choose to selfishly break the rules, you suffer the consequences.

It's pretty straightforward

I know nickers went to the irrationality of the law argument, but it was your in-character, rush to judgment that set him off.

Useful trait for a budding, yellow journalist... well done...

I tend to agree with cam here.

Professional athletes, not unlike many other celebrity stations in life, are often treated with kid gloves since they are children.

Rarely will anyone tell you you are doing something wrong because you are gifted in one sense or another.

That's how some players get through college and onto a professional team without being able to read.

They get the idea that the rest of the world is stupid and will believe anything they say. I'm sure the guy just figured he could sneak by with a few tokes.

I find it hard to believe he's lying awake in a bed shivering and sweating because he needs a hit off of a joint.

Of course addiction is usually given as an excuse for just about anyone who's busted for an illegal substance.

I'm more likely to believe he's a stupid arrogant asshole than a poor pitiful addict.

WSS

typically views on addiction are very intrinsic...i bet you a beer you've escaped the dui trap, and i applaud you preemptively.

maybe he's just addicted to the life.

whatever is driving it, arrogance and/or silver spoons included, rock bottom is as close to a gold standard cure as you can get.

if all this really has legs, good luck to him.

A better question would be how many of you have gotten stoned on a job that pays 5 mill for 4 years? I'm gunna guess 0.

Josh Gordon is a Beast and I don't give a fuck if he smokes weed. Plenty of athletes drink and party, if not for the outdated laws forbidding you to abstain from this substance but it's okay to use this one... that's fucking bullshit.

You fucks that want him gone can blow a fucking horse, fags. The dude just lead the NFL last year in yards with no QB! You are ready to sacrifice the kid because of some over the counter cough syrup and the gonja? Get the fuck out of here. Johnny Manziel might as well pick up and leave Cleveland now, fickle fucking fans. Jesus.

I hope Josh wins an appeal, as far as I know this is him first and only Pot related OFFENSE since joining the NFL. That should not be a season long ban.

rules are rules. he's still my favorite current player. this isn't a moral thing.

i smoke pot at will...but i have a CO redcard, and i'm self employed.

there's a world of difference.

and adoug: i think Josh is exempt from your blunt addiction hypothesis.

no one in The States mixes tobacco with their weed. ever. like literally no one.

that's 5 million reasons not to do it. well worth having to say no to a quick high.

I"m sure Manziel is happy to know his #1 target can't stop smoking weed even for millions of dollars. Stfu, he doesn't give a shit about the browns or fans. 2 years in a row wtf.

if there is a positive in this (besides the ua) it's that other players, especially rookies like Manziel (and young fans) can learn what not to do. specifically how when you play a key role in an organization, just how much one person's selfish actions can negatively impact or even completely undermine an organization's master plans moving forward.

without going off the deep end this may sound extreme but for all he knows he just cost himself, the franchise, the city, and the fanbase a ring. probably not but who knows. maybe this hiccup fuels future collection of numerous rings down the road.

in the restaurant biz they say bad experiences can be gifts. it's hard to make a continued splash simply giving consistent service. when something unexpected happens, our approach to solving a given situation often creates opportunities that wouldn't exist otherwise. think out of the box and the sky is literally the limit.

i said last night in the tavern he's now year 3, plug and play at this point. if he knows the playbook he's a #1. period. if we don't sign him someone else will and it should definitely be with us. as a piece of the puzzle or as a liability, i want the organization to hold his hand whenever he comes back from this, and if he wants to play hard and represent the Browns professionally, i still want to cheer for him.

set him up for success as best you can, but don't ever count on him to not use again, and plan accordingly. reality of a billion dollar business.

There seems to be a feeling/rumor that this may be overturned, or it's a case of a "diluted" sample.

if diluted that's a procedural violation and would still be a strike 2 in the second stage. i believe 4-6 games suspended/fined is the penalty there. i would love this as a worst case...but the writing is still on the wall. he hasn't made it a year. wasn't he passed out in a drive thru once? sloppy.

kids, repeat after me...water at parties, beer for breakfast.

Josh Gordon doesn't owe you anything. Just because you bought a jersey and come to the games does not mean that he's your little monkey who needs to perform to the best of his abilities and follow the straight and narrow path. If you think that Josh Gordon owes you something, it's not him who's entitled. God damnit, I bought a 200 dollar shirt so he needs to not get suspended. Let him live how he wants to, he's a human being.

He knew the consequences, and he did it anyway. I'm not saying we should feel bad for the man, I'm saying we don't deserve anything from him because we're fans.

wrong. Josh Gordon the citizen does not owe me anything. Josh Gordon the Cleveland Brown abso-fucking-lutely does. and when i'm in the stadium, we owe it to them to be great 12th men (and women).

there is a relationship there and an expectation whether you or Josh choose to participate or not.

I used to smoke weed, and of my circle of friends I knew who also smoked, the only people who COULD NOT stop smoking weed were the ones who we're smoking blunts. I always assumed it was because of the mix of weed and tobacco, the tobacco made you addicted. But the only way you get a tobacco fix is through smoking blunts full of weed. Unless you start cigarettes but most heavy weed smokers that I know wouldn't touch cigarettes with a 10 foot pole.

So he's probably psychologically addicted to weed, and physically addicted to the tobacco. Assuming he smokes blunts, which I'm pretty sure he does

What the hell kind of blounts were you smoking? Mixing weed and tobacco? You use a blount wrap but certainly don't mix the two together. Smoking a blount is no different make up wise than smoking a bowl, bong etc.

i just can't agree. There are plenty of people who'd like to smoke weed but don't? Why? Because they value their careers. Those same people man up to support their families and their peers who depend on them. If I was Josh Gordon's team mate I'd kick his damned ass.

As I said- us guys who are subject to random drug tests do value our careers over drugs.

if he gets the boot and has to reapply, can he re-enter the league free of prior contracts and be like a free agent?

maybe his plan is to not be a Brown anymore. and he found a way to get out in a year. he's no stranger to sitting out a year...and he can get stoned with Ricky Williams the whole time. pretty sweet loophole if true.

or, he's in on the smoke screen and agreed to guage fan reaction to us thinking he fucked us. i am hopeful this second theory is true, but it's more likely to be doubtful.

as far as impact...just like when Peyton Manning went down for the Colts, NFL teams need to always have a plan B to keep rolling along when elite talent is removed from their plans. wanna place blame put some with the front office as well for counting on someone who let the entire organization down. i would have trusted him too just saying.

since they didn't draft Watkins or Evans it says obviously they either didn't like those prospects or their plan had higher priority than signing them where they fell.

i said this in the San Antonio Homes thread as well...i hope Flash gets a two year ban. these continued slaps on the wrist aren't having an effect. he should proceed assuming one year, then he can find out next year he isn't accepted and has to wait and reapply again next year...and maybe not even then. like a "we'll see...no guarantees" type situation. let him interview to get back in.

these kids and their fucking entitlement mentality.

he's had plenty of chances already and got cute and beat the system with that purple drank codeine cover up...but play time is over. he is an addict by definition. with so much at stake an abuser would have stopped at strike 1 or definitely 2. the fact he can't stop shows addictive traits and an inability to stop. he's powerless to refuse when confronted with the option. a higher priority on socializing and being a celebrity will doom even the most well intentioned addicts. a couple years away from the game will dry up his money enough to help him value the privilege of being a superstar WR playing in the League and send the message home. he must cut ties with any and all from the wrong crowd first and foremost...change his location...change his behavior. change his lifestyle. change his outlook. for a shot at being the G.O.A.T. at WR...why not suck it up and just be boring and a nerd for a little while?

he must decide, what's more important?

Well said. by definition you're an addict if your behavior affects you at work (among other things). Guess what Josh- you're addicted- maybe not to pot, but certainly to a drug lifestyle- because this is sure as hell going to affect you "at Work".

SMH.

Yeah, let's get rid of Josh because he has a positive test for weed.

You are the fucking idiot.

It's pretty simple PG. I'm going to hand you a blunt now, or hand you a $7 million dollar check next year, you can have one or the other . Which one do you want? Whoops Josh, bad choice.

in Europe literally EVERYONE EXCEPT Americans mixes tobacco w their weed...even in pipes/bongs. google "weed cones".

bizarre, i know.

once in Amsterdam my gf and i tried it their way and our peers at that moment tried it ours.

they said it was too strong smoking it straight. we said it tasted like shit smoking it mixed.

to each their own. nowadays i use a vape pen. no smoke, no smell, no tip off. i can use it right next to you and you'd never even know. i have flown w it, oil, butter, and wax. no sweat. very clear high and only need a few tokes...or you'll hate yourself for getting too high. it's different...deeper...more O.D.able.

every state that's still illegal should adapt Colorado's fun and discreet nonchalant toys...instead of clam-bakin and ridge runnin like it's frickin amateur hour. it's like a fart in a phone booth...there's just no playin it off.

this is true. it is called a cone. the germans smoke cones with hash and weed. was a tough smoke because the hash is so moist. but they never just smoked weed straight. i guess it wasn't interesting enough.

The more that time goes on, the more comfortable I become with this situation. They are going to find players (not player) to fill the void. One or more of these UDFA is going to show something, some guys already on the roster are going to show something, and I have a feeling Farmer is going to bring in a player after he has had time to sift through all the rookies. Not to mention we are going to see some other solid WRs lose their jobswith the ammount of rookies that re going to come in and force them out.

i like those. they get "resiney" quick though and start sticking...at least mine did. can get messy. nice for kief. pricey, but they do carry a 10 year warranty...which is nice.

same here. i'd still like to see them take a look at Santonio Holmes. he still has quite a bit of gas left in his tank, been to the big dance, good experienced vet.
