Guest Aloysius
Here's a scouting report I put together on a guy who very well could be a Brown next season: Chris Johnson, CB, Oakland Strengths: Elite speed...Can run step for step with speedy receivers...Has the size (6'1", 200 lbs.) to match up with tall wideouts...Grabbed three picks after being given the starting job mid-season...Despite being targeted 11 times, he only gave up 3 receptions for 19 yards against Denver's two young receivers...Hard worker who spent last offseason training with Deion Sanders...Also offers value as a kick returner and special teams player. Weaknesses: Only has about half a year of starting experience...Isn't a willing tackler...Doesn't always flip his hips well, which can result in him falling behind receivers...Will turn 30 next year, which is the age most CB's begin to decline. Conclusions: Mangini likes taller DB's, and Johnson played exceptionally well for Rob Ryan last year. That makes him a likely FA target, as well as someone who could challenge Brandon McDonald for a starting job next year. One thing that may keep him out of a Browns uniform is that Crazy Al loves Johnson's speed and may end up offering him a ridiculous deal. But if Johnson's available for relatively cheap, he would be a solid FA addition.
ballpeen
Not a bad idea....the one drawback is the age.....not that he can't play, but he is to the point in his career that every dollar is going to count.....we will have to be the high bidder. I doubt he comes to us for less than somewhere else because he has a desire to stick with Ryan or has some desire to play in Cleveland.
Guest Aloysius
Damn. Chris Johnson deal in the works The Raiders are close to re-signing cornerback Chris Johnson, who ascended from nickel back to DeAngelo Hall's replacement in a single, stunning swoop last season. Years and dollars of the long-term contract are still being worked out by both sides, according to a source familiar with the discussions, but Johnson has told teammates he expects the deal to be done as soon as this week -- and it will almost certainly be done before Johnson can hit the free-agent market Feb. 27.
