calfoxwc
Well, I am being funny. I'm impressed you can see me now... @@ with the artic cold temps, the snow has accumulated to a point, over the last three weeks, higher than I have seen it in the last 50 years, except for one or two years 76-78, and once in the eighties. In 1977, the heavy, consistent snow caused the American pheasant to die off from starvation and cold... Trust me, there used to be those pheasant all over Ohio when I was a kid. But the extremely cold, extended for weeks temps, with chill factors down to -25 degrees, is unheard of around here,... ever. And, global temps have minutely gone -down- consistently over the last decade. Just kinda warms my heart to think of spring - desperately. I've always maintained that weather patterns fluctuate over the eons/centuries/decades, and for various lenghts of time. Warm and cold trends are distinct variations of normal, consistent weather patterns that occur, depending on geographical locations. Yesterday, for the first time it weeks, it got above freezing - it even went to 43 degrees. I remember when I was a kid in the early sixties, we lived on the farm, and our first Christmas there, I was hoping my parents got me my first shotgun. I ended up following clues, from the first present, to the basement near the furnace, out on the back porch. in the front yard in the tree near the driveway, in the bathroom medicene cabinet, to the back porch, and finally, all the way out to Chico's barn. Which, even to this day, older as I am, still twinges me emotionally, because I will always be grateful for Chico, a burgandy burro, my buddy around the farm, for saving my life... anyways, I went all over grinning from clue to clue (hey, I used to read Sherlock Holmes novels in the third grade), in a t-shirt, no coat. (I did get my beautiful 12-gage, still have it to this day) any other winter, that would be impossible- you would require a warm coata . weather patterns ebb and flow, the trends are there for all to see. It's just goofy to have giant political movement based on some information from one warming trend, and call it a historically accurate happening that only started whenever the beginning of that trend started, and create a global alleged crisis on it. Chicopee John
The world is warming at a record rate... t impact. osusev
I think my solar panels, hybrid vehicle, extremely limited red meat, collaborated drive schedule, electric limiting miser controls and system, electric heat pump, electric hot water on demand systems and tons of extra insulation and high efficiency windows and other tactics my family does are more than ONE thing as an alarmists we are doing. You are more than likely referring to yourself in doing nothing. Hell even my hosting company has gone with the more expensive blade hardware because of the electrical efficiency over cheaper hardware solutions. My other operations uses netmeetings instead of driving to every location to have meetings and other centralized services like remote management. I cant wait for OLED displays to come down in cost because of the low energy consumption. All of my statements and bills are now completely paperless and electronic. So in business as well as personal there are a lot of people sacrificing in order to bring more balance to our consumption and rescource sharing. calfoxwc
Cal: do you truly believe man is not causing damage to the Earth? ************************************************** The subject is global warming. Man damaging the earth is a different deal. The destruction of the rainforests is a huge damage to the earth, and may be increasing the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. but even that is hardly significant at all, compared to the effects of the sun. Correlate solar flares with temps on the earth, and voila ! You have global warming. but we're talking millions and millions of acres that has been destroyed. and pollution? Is a sick and twisted way to gain anything from ruining, eventually, everything. Two different issues. If I were pres, I would go after any company that intentionally dumps poisons into the earth, water or air. Shut em down til their tech is revamped, given federal funding assistance... It can cost many millions of dollars to install filters, etc. but to tell people they have to vote Democratic/socialist and stop driving pickup trucks and SUV's and they should paint the earth white to reflect the sun and shiver in their basements in winter with no heat and be taxed in a bijillion ways to fund whatever to not have the earth spontaneously combust in ten years... bogus. fraudulent manipulation of others, a cherry picked science-"backed" emotional appeal for whatever Al Gore and cronies dream of... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. It's solar flares, gradual tempurature fluctuation trends that warm and cold over centuries, over our entire history.

Despite what some folks thing, scientists track a trend in global warming, which they believe is a result of the damage we are causing. So, the subject is global warming, but that warming is just a piece of data to rally behind to warn folks of the damage we are doing.

No, a feed pile for the wild game. you can take a 4" pvc pipe drill a few holes in the side and then take a 2 liter bottle cut it in half, use one as a cap and the other as the funnel. fill it full of corn and secure it along side a tree about 2 to 4 inches from touching the ground and as the wild game comes by and eats it will continually poor through the bottom. calfoxwc
Well, that's functional, but ugly and unnatural. we are keeping our woods natural woods. Some big stumps that are left over from a few big trees being logged and sold about 40 years ago... are the platforms for a pile of grain we keep refilling... that, and this big flat rock on the other side of the bog. But our woods are incredibly scenic, and beautiful. We want to keep it that way. Although, if it's just a tree out in a field or at the end of a long backyard, it would work fine... Most of my apathy on the matter stems from 1 person, which is sad when I think about it. Global Warming/Climate change is an enormous racket and until "the scientific community" and "everyone else awash in the hysteria" can convince the world's most recognizable spokesperson to stop being such an effing hypocrite, it will continue to be simply a racket. Why don't the major players in the "scientific community" step up & tell that buffoon to get his act together, and he'd be much more effective? Because their funding would be cut and they would get their name on "the list." I also don't like Cameron fcuk Diaz (etc.) telling me how to live my life all because she dug under her sofa and bought a Prius to drive to & fro' the grocery store when she's home for 2 weeks out of the year. Because for the other 50, she's flying around in a plane & helicopter with Drew Barrymore & Redman & providing the world with the dumbest half hour on television and the world's shittiest movies. Not to mention the catering trays that could feed a village for a month that get thrown away daily. She & the rest of that "community" can shove it up their collective asses (no offense, Shep). No wonder the world hates us, thanks to the internet & TV that & the other side of the coin (Jerry Springer-ville) is what has been piping to the rest of the world for 30+ years. And speaking of hybrids, if said "scientific community" was so effing brilliant, where is the diesel electric hybrid? A Diesel is infinitely more efficient than a gasoline ICE and particularly excels on "highway miles." Also, almost conveniently coincidentally, this is where the (current) electric engine struggles. The diesel's efficiency is severely lost when driving "city miles." Which, wait for it....... IS WHERE THE MOTHER-EFFING HYBRID EXCELS. FCUK! Ethanol should be abandoned and it's funding & effort be focused on all forms of biodiesel. B100 (100% Biodiesel - no petroleum) emits zero greenhouse gases, and you don't lose the mileage (efficiency) or horsepower (work) that you do with ethanol. The nationwide distribution system is already in place - logistics nightmare, solved. But, since this is still a political problem and not an environmental one, we are forced into this dumbshit racket. Fat-fcuk should give his Nobel Prize to the Rudolf Diesel estate and abandon his self-imposed notion that he is actually making a difference - and I don't know, maybe shut his face for about 5-10 years. So, until said geniuses (politicians, not scientists - the tech is already here) make an honest attempt at a real solution they can all suck on the 4" tailpipe of my F350 7.3L that currently makes about 510bhp & 684 ft/lbs of torque that can still roast 35" tires at 25mph as I dump 15ppm of sulfur into the atmosphere every time I stand on it. calfoxwc
Okay, that was the funniest post on the entire subject ever, CONGRATS ! (Rof,l) I am looking into a grant to purchase, perhaps collectively with local farmers - a small biodiesel fuel producing outfit. There's a "new" plant in PA that generates biediesel very efficiently, don't remember the name of it - but some PA farmers are seriously considering jumping on board to grow it. Ethanol is very inefficient, ... you lose 30% of your gas mileage? what's it for, then? The limitations in using the mix, to preclude engine damage... give it up. Food prices, corn seed and fertilizer will go back down and the money, time and energy is better suited elsewhere.
Legacy Fan
Thanks, Cal. This is the post where I apologize for gratuitous use of the f-word in the previous one. It was early. This is also where I point out that I think global warming/climate change/name change is a real problem. I think humans and their habits contribute to the problem and there are conflicting reports as to what degree. This is also where I point out that I admire & respect the effort that sev puts into conservation and "living green." I currently can't afford to make any real changes at the moment, but I can (and have) certainly modify my behavior & consumption. My truck is now 10 years old, extremely well maintained, extremely reliable, and paid for. And the dukes of hazzard shit I was talking about earlier I haven't done since my children were born, because I'm a grown up & have responsibilities. Back to sev: in the sierra club's doomiest & gloomiest scenario of how much effect humans have on carbon output, the super-spartan changes sev has made to his lifestyle would not offset population growth. Nor would it offset 3rd world industrial revolutions we are seeing. In the event that humans aren't the sole producers of carbon emissions (hard to imagine, right? ), we are in an even worse hole. Technology is currently evolving to improve the way the pipes catch & distribute the heat from the fire, but why can't (or why wont) we start with changing what we throw into the fire? Like biodiesel, nuk-yah-ler power, etc.
