Lombardi and Banner gone, Farmer new GM

Recommended Posts

Of course others will claim that this is just more evidence of dysfunction and instability. But as far as I am concerned, this is a good thing.

I don't care what the outside media world thinks, we know this is best for our organization.

Free agents were going to stay away in droves because the word was out about Banner, and the organization was "radioactive".

The Pettine hire gave me hope, this day makes me feel like we are finally going to right this damn thing.

The power is now in the hands of Farmer and Pettine, who are football people that players can relate to, and out of the hands of the "suits" that play fantasy football with the draft and nickel and dime contract negotiations.

This doesn't mean we'll be champions, long way to go, maybe we'll only peak at 8-8 or 9-7 ... but we'll play with pride under Pettine and we'll be a team to be proud of again.

Sky's the limit. Just glad Bitchtits and Labialips are gone.

Nice.

No more Johnny Football then? Please?

Seems to be the rumour on twitter from a draft scout

I think Haslam had to act ......just by the feedback received during the pro bowl of how Banner and Lombardi came across to people .......now with a new GM in place I am sure we will be a more attractive proposition in free agency ....

I love the moves. It is Christmas in February,The only question I have

is why were these guys not let go earlier? These guys were the ones

who picked our next coach and caused numerous candidates to say

no thanks I can't work under these two bozos.

Just heard. Fantastic! Now let's work on actually improving a team. No more "free years". Show promise or get out.

As for the question just posted about why these guys were not let go earlier, my guess is that there was debate over what players to acquire and/or what the division of power would be between the front office and coaching staff.

I believe that was the "straw that broke the camel's back." These guys were originally brought in to help Haslam get a start to running the business. Now that he got the right guys for GM and coach, it's time to take charge and be an owner... but slow down Jimmy!! We don't want a Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder in the box, so don't go overboard.

I love this point. Farmer and Pettine are "grass roots" football guys... Hopefully, we have somebody keeping an eye on the salary cap, but I know these guys are going to find and coach "football" players, and not be enamoured or distracted by some of the other crap that "business" guys do like a couple pennies here and there, or a guy's "star potential" (Manziel)...

I'd guess pettine was more of a haslam choice. Reportedly Lombardi's big interests were McDaniels and gase.

It was a fantasy ... I thought we'd have to endure one more sadsack losing season for it to happen.

But, yes ... Christmas in February!

I wondered why Farmer didn't take that Miami job. I bet Jimmy LOVED Pettine, Pettine set this whole thing up, got together with Farmer and said "don't leave", and then went to Jimmy and said "ditch the stooges" Or else Jimmy saw Farmer walking out the door, looked at Lombardi sipping his latte and said "what the fuck are we doing?"

Either way, this has all the swagger of an owner in CONTROL and Farmer and Pettine, the real football people, will have the authority.

I'm loving it. I may start drinking early today.

I need to learn more about Farmer. Now, I have no idea what the draft and FA might look like. Hopefully, better than I could predict...

Mind blown. I am shocked to see this happen so soon, but ecstatic at the unexpected news.

Best off-season ever, indeed.

I would think this would look good from outsiders at this point. We certainly know it, which is really all that's important. Media will try to latch on and create negativity but screw them.

Farmer: Star player with a degree from Duke, played three years in the NFL (Eagles) before injury ended his career. Scout for the Falcons for several years (lots of talent there), Director of Pro Personnel in KC (lot's of talent there), 39 years old ... this is the kind of resume you hitch your wagon to, not a guy that fetched Al Davis coffee for eight years and then talked on TV about other people's drafts.

God, I hated ratface Banner and Lombardi since day one ... tried to give them a chance ... but just knew they were wrong for us.

Let's roll ...

I know he was the guy that recommended trickshot Tanney, so I can see him making the roster.

Bridgewater-Hoyer-Tanney ?

They are all similar builds and mobile, Shanny could have fun devising an offense for Bridgewater/Hoyer that any of the three QBs could step in and run.

I think in general, a 39 year old African American former player has a foot in the door with free agents over latte-sipping Lomabardi and nickle-counting Banner for sure.

HOT DAMMIT !!! Guys on this board called it. I now have great respect for Haslam.

Ths is great, can't wait to read what all went on behind the scenes over all this.

I now see that Haslam IS one of us. (think they read this board? LOL)

Just like others, I also called for this in the "Farmer stays" thread:

Farmer, I say again, needs to be promoted, and in charge of the draft, along with the

hc, whoever that is.

Scumbardi and Banner should be fired. They didn't show any improvement over the year, either.

I think Haslam saw Banner being a smart ass to the media, and has heard from players

and plenty of others about what has been going on with Banner and Scumbardi.

The Scumbardi hire by Banner seemed to have been a power play, it didn't make

any sense outside of that.

Both GONE ! Things are really looking up now !

What does this mean for our own free agents? Is this shakeup an explanation for the lack of negotiations for Mack and Ward?

Nice work, Browns Board, we were allover this shit:

http://thebrownsboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28246&hl=%2Bfire+%2Blombardi

http://thebrownsboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28291&hl=farmer

And about ten other threads where the theme was "get rid of Banner and Lombardi"

Now let's knock this draft out of the park, sign some free agents and let Pettine make this the "toughest team on the field every Sunday".

I wonder... if that was the final opening of Haslam's eyes about them Good point.

Banner was a jerk to the media, sure he and scumbardi were jerks to the fa's.

Maybe that got back to Haslam, via the coaches. Then he saw what was really wrong -

those two dipsticks ! This is freaking GREAT !

We can only speculate, but Farmer was a hard-hitting safety in college ... think he likes T.J. Ward?

If we get Mack and Ward back that tells us a lot, because the media has been saying they were all but gone.

Just found this site and at the best possible time. Don't know why it took them until now to do this, but I'm grateful it's done. It feels as though the little moral victories that we've had to celebrate in the recent past are about to be overshadowed...

I 100% expect to see the franchise tag put on Ward as early as next Monday. He is our #1 FA in my opinion. Now that Banner is gone, I 99% expect to see Alex Mack return to the team. See below...

I couldn't see Banner giving him the money, but I certainly see Farmer (with a little convincing from other players, Joe Thomas particularly) being willing to bring him back... Just speculating

From the Dawg Pound and the Players, we are

Happy and peppy and bursting with love,
Dancing and singing to heavens above,
Jumping and rolling like a little pup,
If they knock me down, I'm gonna bounce back up.

Happy and peppy and feeling so swell,
I'm gonna answer answer when I hear the bell,
I'll knock down defeat with fury ferocious
Happy, precocious and swell. :D
