Mentor sucked last Friday ... haven't seen the offense that off in a very long time. They have a lot of holes to fill. I wouldn't count them among the elite until re-evaluated at the end of the season. Coach Triv will fix all, but will it be to any advantage this season? NOTE: They looked just as bad last season in Week #3 verse Iggy and came back strong for the playoff run. I wouldn't count them out, just not count them in over the next 6+ weeks.

Colerain has impressed enough to get the #1 state ranking for the AP rankings

St. Edwards has climbed to a #6 national ranking #2 state in AP ranking

St. Iggy looks to have rebounded from there first loss to Brother Rice

Mentor is on cruise control for the remainder of there creampuffs

Glenville needs to stay sharp through the remainder of there creampuffs

Moeller and St. X are gonna be there in the playoffs

Toledo powerhouses seem to have regressed just a little.

There is a considerable drop off from D1 to the rest of the Divisions.(as there should be)

See my other thread. I am not sure if Eds/Iggy/Mentor/Glenville/Moeller/X/Colerain etc. all play in the same division now, they have divided it up so much.

Mentor hasn't allowed a single point since losing to Iggy, beating Euclid 36-0 and Twinsburg 49-0 (game called in middle of 3rd Qtr cause of weather). They are looking good, running the ball well and growing ... can't count'em out.

My High School (and that of WSS..Norton) has maybe made the playoffs maybe once in history. So it is not a big threat. Where my kids went to HS where I now live, Wadsworth, has been a frequent post season participant....but a loss last week put them out of the rankings.

It looks like St. Edwards, Colerain or Moeller are the favorites to win the Div. I state title.

Mentor is unable to make up the loss of Trubisky. St. Iggy has lost too much talent due to injury to be a serious contender.

It would be nice if a Canton McKinley or Austintown Fitch could break the parochial hegemony.

And gee, the way this silly system is set up now, perhaps both Canton McKinley and Massillon could end up being state champs.

it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

they both need to toughen up there schedules.

I know iggy and ed's are hurting for games, they used to play each other in the past it would be good competition for all.

You mean St. Ed's and St. Ignatius don't play each other in the regular season? That is absurd if true. And what it means is that their athletic director's are cowards for not playing that game.

And the Canton McKinley's and Autintown's schedules are fine. They just can't compete with the recruiting efforts of the parochial schools.

Canton McK is limited to getting players from Canton. Austintown is limited to Austintown....where Iggy can go to like North Olmstead and get a guy like Brian Hoyer to play there.

Well, you weren't clear. Your statement seemed to imply that it was Ed's and Iggy that didn't play.

And for all we know, it may be that it is St. Ed's and Ignatius that don't want to schedule McKinley etc.

Besides, it appears that Iggy does play McKinley...but just in a scrimmage. Most of their schedule is now made up of other out of state parochial schools.:

And sorry if the truth is old to you, but the truth may get old, but it never dies.

I'm not sure why I even respond to this nonsense.

You think the private schools need to recruit in order to win.(you offer zero proof and would be surprised to know that public schools are guilty of more recruiting violations than privates)

You have a poor understanding of how private schools keep their doors open.(you think superior athletes are given financial aid based on athletics yet you offer zero proof again.)

The sissification of America is what you propose, you think separating public from private is going to create a level playing field, instead it creates a watered down juice box league that teaches youth that if you can't compete then complain.

As for a possible solution, the numbers of boys at a school now determine what division you compete in. At a private school if you don't carry your weight and show up for class they get rid of you, usually not an issue since the parents are paying for the student and ensures that their child is there learning.

At a public school there is always gonna be the dead beat students who don't contribute or even show up for class yet there still considered in the 'count' used for determining your division.

Odds are quite a few teams could go to a 'fairer' division where they could compete at. by eleiminating the dead weight in the count.(not very realistic I know)

Ohio HS football is top five in the nation and separating public from from private isn't going to improve that number for sure,

Now who's number 1 in D-1? Ed's lost last night to Iggy's

PLAYOFFS

D1 has the familiar faces.

St. Eds(#1 in the state ) Mentor Iggy these are the top tier teams in region 1 all are capable of winning

Moeller Colerain these are the top teams in region 2 Moeller is very good Colerain has good athletes but is not tested.

(Wadsworth should look forward to getting spanked by Ed's though if they can win their first playoff game)

Div2 -should be Glenvilles year to win a state title now that they are out of Div 1

Div3 SVSM- they have found a nice hiding spot in D3 and will prevail(they prefer not to be challenged)

Div4 -some say Mooney but Kenton disagrees

Div5-7 ??????

I thought which division a school is in was a function of the number of male students at that school. The school itself does not pick and choose which division it is in....so I don't see why you can say that SVSM is "hiding"? The OHSAA makes these rules, not the schools. The OHSAA assigns a school to a division.

If you want SVSM to compete at the higher divisions, donate a million dollars to the school so they can build new wings and recruit more athletes to play there.

Div4 -some say Mooney but Kenton disagrees

Div5-7 ??????

That said, I agree....Four divisions really should be enough. Seven is absurd.

^^^

tonge in cheek on the SVSM comment, but normally a quality team with highly touted athletes will step out of there comfort zone and face a few D1 or D2 programs.

Mooney does year in and year out. Even a school like Buchtel will challenge themselves with almost certain losses trying to increase the level of play at there program.

St. V beat Massillon this year, didn't they?. Isn't that "stepping out of their comfort zone?

Yea, sure....because they are a public HS, and can't compete with the talent that is recruited by the big parochial schools.

Clearly Massillon hasn't been able to keep up when ponying up the cash. It is a depressed town.
