Best OF Arms of 2008

John Walsh over at THT gives us his annual look at outfield arms. Nothing too surprising as his best arms, left to right, were Pence, Kemp and Soriano.

As for Indians (present and former) on his list, Gootz was the 10th best RF in the ML last year. Sizemore was 25th in CF and Francisco was 8th in LF.

Great article and he explains his rankings here:

Man, I get to talk about the Rangers two posts in a row!

I mentioned Boggs in some thread on here earlier, it's great to see him at #3 on the LF list. I'll try to find a video online, I was at a game where he had what might be the defensive highlight of the year on a shoestring grab, picture perfect bullet throw to Max Ramirez, Ramirez getting laid out but hanging on for the out. Just a couple games after that I saw him throw out Carlos Quentin at the plate.

Something you haven't seen too much of from the Tribe's LFs in a while, I'm pretty surprised Francisco is as high up as he is.

Worth noting that that was one in a long line of CJ Wilson meltdowns, tied 10-10 with two runners on in the top of the 9th. Unfortunately I can't even remember if the Rangers won that game, and to be honest I'm a little scared to check.

Those highlights make me even more excited to check him out again next year. Hopefully the team plays him pretty regularly as a defensive specialist, with Hamilton and David Murphy probably manning the other two OF spots, it's not like they need another run producer out there.

It's looking more and more like Sheets is going to join that rotation, no?

Yep. I'd say he'd be a bit of a step up from Kevin Millwood, but the small market fan in me hates the idea of a big money starter. The rest of the rotation is still pretty close to garbage, and the bullpen is one of the worst in the league. Even if Sheets stays healthy most of the year, I'm not sure how much he can do by himself to get this team to truly compete with Anaheim. But if some of the youngsters in the rotation start panning out and Nefali Feliz (billed by Ranger fans as the next Pedro) develops quickly....you never know. And if nothing else, an all-star calibur starter would definitely be good PR to make the fans happy.

Big step up from Millwood if it goes down, agreed. Now Feliz, was he the guy they got for Tex? Don't know a thing about him.

BTW, do you subscribe to the Newberg Report? Wealth of information (Ranger related) in your in-box every morning. I subscribe and really don't remember how it happened. I just know that I learn more about the Rangers than I ever cared to discover. Not that I'm complaining. Any baseball news is good news.

Yeah, the Teixiera trade ended up pretty crazy. Salty was supposed the be the centerpiece, as the Rangers version of Victor Martinez, but he's looked terrible to me, especially defensively. Now he's been seen publicly saying a trade to the Red Sox would be a dream come true. Luckily the Rangers also got Elvis Andrus, who you probably heard about during the Michael Young trade demand, and Feliz, who was basically a throw in to the deal. He came as a raw power arm, but looked great last year. Between A and AA, threw 127 inning with a 2.69 ERA, 10.81 K/9, and a 1.10 WHIP. This while throwing in the mid to high 90s. Could end up being the Rangers' version of the Colon trade.

Never heard of that blog, I keep most of my extra-curricular reading Tribe-related, sticking to the local outlets for my Rangers. I'll have to check this one out though.
