“A Downer” for Limbaugh | 1:13 p.m. Rush Limbaugh wasted no time in describing how unimpressed he was with President Obama’s speech, which he called an “acceptance speech” instead of an inaugural address.

 

Mr. Limbaugh said it “fell flat” and played more like a campaign speech, which he said not surprise him because he expects the Obama administration to continue the campaign, the way he said the Clinton administration did. He excluded the Bush administration from that comparison, though it was frequently criticized in other places for staying permanently in campaign mode.

 

The event was “over-hyped,” he said, and added that he saw “more energy at a McCain campaign rally and 10 times the energy at a Sarah Palin rally.” He also said the speech only drew reactions from comments about race and that it contained “elements of socialism.”

 

Mr. Limbaugh said he did not like the “classical music,” which he said contributed to the mood becoming “a downer.”

 

More that anything else Mr. Limbaugh expressed his disgust at the benediction from the Rev. Joseph Lowery because his closing remarks included the line and “white will embrace what is right.” Mr. Limbaugh, who has himself been accused of making racially charged comments in the past, said, “Of course I am offended” by those remarks and told his audience to remember “an empty barrel makes the most noise.” He said that whites were the only group to be criticized, even though it was “white Americans” who had elected Mr. Obama.

 

Gonna be a long 8 years for that convicted felon.

I didn't hear the speech although I was most interested in listening to Rick Warren. Selecting Warren for the Invocation, alone, gave me a ton of respect for the new President.

 

Remember, middle America got him elected, not the lunatic fringes on either coast.

Throughout the campaign Limbaugh reffered to Obama as a "halfrican american"

Nothing he says surprises me.

 

When something is hyped it rarely if ever lives up to expectations.

Anyway the speech was, as are most political speeches, nothing more that a load of platitudes delivered in Obama's signature pompous honk.

 

So what?

 

Alec Baldwin's "I AM God" or Nicholson's "You can't handle the truth" are good speeches.
