Cody, Atkins, and Granger are staying in school.

Jerry & Marks are good prospects (especially Jerry), but neither's a good fit for the 3-4.

Working on the fly, here's what an updated list would look like:

3-4 DE

  1. Tyson Jackson, LSU
  2. Fili Moala, USC
  3. Alex Magee, Purdue
  4. Dorrell Scott, Clemson
  5. Jarron Gilbert, San Jose State
3-4 NT

  1. B.J. Raji, Boston College
  2. Ron Brace, Boston College (would have been a DE in Romeo's fat guy 3-4)
  3. Terrance Taylor, Michigan (questionable scheme fit)

I was kinda intimating this in another thread, but to me it seems there aren't any 3-4 DE (our gaping hole) worth a high 1st round pick.

B.J. Raji may be a top 15 guy, but he's more of an NT (Mayock compares him to NE's Vince Wilfork).

If we didn't have Shaun Rogers, he'd probably be one of my top 5 guys.

As a pure DE? Maybe Michael Johnson. But I think you are basically right. Johnson is a first round pick but probably a mid first rounder.

We already have mega bucks tied up in our defensive line and have 4 solid players. BTW, I count S.Smith gone, but we really missed Robaire Smith this year. The only way I look at Dline early is if they get rid of Cory Williams for draft picks. I think the light bulb has gone on and theyrealize that they need LBs, bucsue LBs make or Break the 3-4.

I think drafting a defensive lineman on the second day to develop would be a solid idea. MY belief is that rounds 4 - 7 should be taking the best player available. Those are really crap shoot picks. Good rounds to find developmental guys for O-Line, D-Line and DBs.
