"I feel the Browns are on the right track. But going into my seventh season, I want to play for a winner," the potential free agent told The Plain Dealer. "I do feel the Browns are right there. They've done a good job. I'm not sure what's going to happen." When the Browns hired Pat Shurmur to replace fired coach Eric Mangini in January, Rob Ryan, the defensive coordinator, announced he was leaving with one year left on his contract to join the Dallas Cowboys. Roth, who played defensive end in a 4-3 scheme in college at Iowa before converting to linebacker in a 3-4, didn't sound enthused about switching back under new coordinator Dick Jauron, who told the Chronicle-Telegram that he wants to run a "very aggressive" 4-3 defense. "I challenge you to (find) one player who wouldn't run through a wall for him (Ryan)," Roth told The Plain Dealer. "I love playing that style. I know Dick Jauron's a good coach, but I don't want to have to deal with no nonsense. Just want to come in and play, do my job and have fun. That's a big factor in wherever I go." Roth played in all 16 games for the Browns last season, registering 3½ sacks and a career-high 86 tackles. Much like Ryan, Roth had complimentary things to say about his former coach. "I think Mangini was a great coach," Roth said. "I don't think anyone ever quit in either of those years (the Browns' back-to-back 5-11 seasons). We beat up on some pretty damn good teams. We didn't have an easy schedule." Roth also said youth played a large part in the team's record, saying "if we could have added a veteran to that mix and (gotten) those wide receivers going, I think we could have won at least eight games, easily." Fullback Lawrence Vickers, also a potential free agent, recently alluded to his time in Cleveland being over as well, saying he understands business but hopes "I don't have to come to Cleveland in a different uniform, because it's gonna be bad (for the Browns)." As far as Vickers is concerned, it does suck, but all I can remember about his catching skills is him doin his best BE impression in the flats... I don't blame the guy because he has been playing on 1 years deals for several seasons. He is one of the interchangeable, mediocre members of the Browns LB corps. I suspect he would not even be a starter on 80% of the NFL teams. Gips Posted June 6, 2011 Report Share Posted June 6, 2011 Roth is not that great and he has a real mercenary attitude about the game, he is a dime a dozen and easily replaced, however if the regime gets rid of vickers it will prove to be a huge mistake as he is more than capable of doing everything a WCO fullback needs to do, he has always done what was asked of him without a quibble and i hope he gets a chance to stay a brown and prove he can not only catch the ball but pummel defenders after he does.. I honestly would much rather keep Roth because we need the help along the line but he can be easily replaced. As for Vickers I think he is one of those guys that Browns fans overrate because he is our player. I am NOT saying he is a bum, but he is nothing special. Lets face it we have had a lot of change and he isn't getting any younger. He needs to do what is best for him. I like him and his attitude but he wasn't kicking major ass out there to be honest. Vickers is the man but it is all about the dollars. We need to get younger and we'll need the money to sign whoever we pick with those 2 1st rounders next season. He more than likely won't be back since he's a run stopper, and playing DE in the new system you have to be a pass rusher. So he's not a fit, but that doesn't mean he's not one of the best run stoppers in the game. His situation is kinda like working through a temp agency for 3 years and never getting hired. Don't blame his attitude one bit, if you were working a temp job and had a chance to go to a permanent job with better pay you damn sure would do it to. I mean, if the Browns were to appear in the next 6-8 Super Bowl games would you say "Aah, this is boring, lets get back to when the Browns were losing". I wouldn't. Likewise, it will be a hell of a long way off in my future when I say "don't show me any more beautiful women's breasts".
