THE BROWNS BOARD

Head-to-Head Hits & New Rule Discussion

Clearly Goodell is destined to be a czar of some sort with Obama's regime. His acts are definitely socialist in nature.

Redistribution of wealth. Penalize the teams who can play football for the benefit of the teams that suck.

It makes total sense considering stains fans support the concept.

Buy tix for your arena football league now, in a couple years when that league surpasses the NFL because they're the last remnant of real football, fans will be flocking to see it.

I have an idea, lets go on the Browns board and be a complete arrogant asshole about every single f*cking topic that comes up and show everyone what an elitist asshole I am by telling them every one of their opinions is "crying" and maybe they will all convert to my roided up raping team of sh!tbags! Because you know this IS the internet and if I tell people they are wrong enough times surely they will see MY side of things! I can only imagine what rich and interesting lives you steeler fags that live on this board must have.

I would like to think most Browns fans are good normal people. You are making it hard for me to do that.

I present my opinion (an opinion shared by two outspoken Browns players) and some of you guys go bereserk because you can't understand people can have different opinions.

You say only Steelers fans hold the view that Harrison's hits were clean. I point out Browns players admitt they though the hits were clean. That's when you shown your arrogance by saying they were wrong, just because they had a different opinion. You just say they don't know what they are talking about and you are right.

You can have your opinion, but when you post it for the world to see people will criticize it. If you can't handle that don't post your opinions. You don't crtique someone opinion, you just say they don'tknow what they are talking about and they are wrong.

My side is the side the NFL players want. Since it's their health and well being in question their opinions should be highly regaurded. But you just say that they don't know what they are talking aboutor they aren't smart people. Who are you to tell NFL players what's best for them? That's arrogance.

Remember the time Harrison roided out during the super bowl and power slammed that Cardinals DB Francisco onto the group after the play... Yeah, you tell me that wasn't roid fueled rage. OOOOOOOkkk ;)

You mean this?

whbja8.jpg

He didn't power slam him but there is an open handed punch into the dudes back and then he keeps hitting him when the play is clearly over.

I understand a form tackle isn't possible on every play. But on the plays in question were the defenders are unloading on defenseless players they are. If you go look at all the plays in question from this past weekend I would almost guarantee none of them tried to wrap up.
Everything you said is true. I just don't beleive players should get in trouble for not attempting to wrap up, as long as they don't intentionally take a head shot. It's not up to Goodell to punish bad technique, leave that to the coaches.

I never even stated my opinion on this helmet to helmet hitting thing dude, I hear enough of it on ESPN and really don't care what steelers or Browns fans think about it. Why so defensive man? Something I say hurt your poor internet feelings?

"All he's trying to do is make himself out to be the victim and its a complete joke in anybody's eyes that isn't a steelers fan"

My response was based on that quote by you, not neccesarily you taking a stand on helmet-to-helmet hits. I can't blame you for not caring what fans have to say. I just think Goodell should listen to the players when he creates and enforces rules he claims is for their health.

True or False. Cribbs lowered his head as he ran through the hole.

True or False. The league said this hit was 100% clean from the start. It was his hit on MoMass that was in question

Cribbs was freaking being tackled and going down when Harrison speared him. True or False- Harrison led with his helmet directly into Cribb's head.

RE: If the League considered this 100% clean, I can't wait to see what happens the next time Ben takes off- and takes a similar shot. I guess direct helmet to helmet is OK- but only if you play for the Steelers.

So becuase players disagree with you they are wrong?

You try calling me out for defending my players while making excuses when your players defender Steeler players.

You obviously want to soften the league. The players themselves don't want the league to be softened.

Believe it or not, people can have different opinions than you and just because you don't agree doesn't make them wrong.

I just think it's funny my opinion is shared and openly supported by players of your favorite team. It's hard to say that NFL players don't know what's best for themselves, but I know you will continue trying.

Actually- the players DON'T know what's best for themselves. Cribbs wanted to get back in the game, but the trainers prevented him from going back in. When it comes to head injuries and concussions, the neurologists know best. Or you want those guys to end up like your very own Mike Webster, who wound up living under a bridge-I'll be nice and say it wasn't due to 'roids- it was due to a few too many head slaps from back in the day. Seen Earl Campbell lately? The guy gets rolled around in a wheelchair.

You know why the players don't want the league to be softened? Because deep down inside, they think they're freaking invincible, and a paralyzing (or deadly- all you need to do is crush the right cervical vertebrae) hit is gonna happen to someone else, not them.

Well, if something isn't done to curb the headhunting, it's going to happen, and soon.

And I loved that video of the hit on Reggie Bush- shows you can blow a play up without taking a guy's head off.

They didn't make those rules up Chuck- been there all along. Or maybe you didn't hear the Commish's office say the refs blew the call? No Super Bowl for that crew!!!! Read it real carefully.

NFL Rule 12

They're just going to enforce said rule. Yeah- I know the NFL "said" Harrison's hit on Cribbs was 100% legal- but I beg to differ. You can say it's iffy if Cribbs' forward progress was stopped, but he was certainly wrapped up, defenseless, and doing down- and Harrison led with his helmet, and only his helmet. What's more galling to me as a Browns fan is he had the opportunity to either pull up or grab JC's shoulder pads with his hands. I'd bet you a C note if last week was this week- and the same play had happened, Harrision would have been ejected, and it would have been a 15 yard penalty. BY THE RULES.

AND remember the money aspect. the only way these guys get noticed in college and early in the nfl is being on the highlight reel for blasting dudes' helmets off. coaches like it (even though they won't say it publicly). when it comes to signing player, either rookies or free agents what do you think they look at. yes each player has their own reel. and the bigger the bad ass the more money.

as for fujita's comments. the guy is a union rep. he doesn't want anything to change unless it benefits the players money-wise in a positive way. start talking fines and suspensions, well let me guess, he might be against it. why do all the players say they are against it blah blah blah.............if you came into my office and said you'll start taking money away from me if idon't start doing things i don't like to do well i'd be pissed too.

Ok, Hoorta, help me out here.

When was this rule drafted? Was this drafter pre or post Sunday? I'm not sure.

Define "virtually defenseless postures".

Also explain to me how Harrison gets fined $75k. What determines a fine.

Grasshopper awaits the master.

Chuck you ought to know the Rule's been in place all season if not a lot longer.

Defenseless? I'll give you Cribb's video as exhibit "A". What happened to Shipley in the Bengals game as exhibit "B", and the shot on Heap as exhibit "C". Obviously, it's not always going to be as clear cut as that.

Kennesaw Mountain Goodell determines the fine. Considering Harrison's antics in the Super Bowl, his shot on Vince Young earlier in the year (unfortunately, didn't see it) and now a couple more TKO's in the Browns game- and then making jackass comments after the game on top of it- (at least the New England dude was remorseful) he earned himself the big booby prize of the week. Can't feel too sorry about the fine JH picked up- with a $20 million signing bonus last year, even considering his contract is back-loaded, that fine is chicken feed.

And I don't buy Harrison's bleating "that's the way I was taught to play". Must have gotten lousy coaching, because they teach you NOT to lead with your head. Assuming I get the OK, I'm going to post a couple musings from a guy who's forgotten more about technical football than I ever learned on the subject of proper tackling technique.

You responded to my post but didn't give an answer to the rtue/false question so to be fair I won't answer yours.

http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/sports/footbal...o-harrisons-hit

“I have no bad will towards LB James Harrison. That's what he's suppose to do knock people out, it's what makes him one of the best,” Cribbs tweeted .

“I don't believe he intentionally wants to injure anyone, but it is a part of the game,” Cribbs tweeted.

“He has been hitting people like that as my teammate at Kent State & now as my rival he still hits people like that... He is still my boy.”

Put Cribbs on the list of Browns players who don't think Harrison's hit was in any way illegal or dirty.

His hit on Young wasn't even dirty. A defensive lineman hit him in the leg as Harrison hit him in the chest. The impact caused him to get flipped over the d-lineman that hit him in his thigh. It wasn't flagged and by rule it shouldn't have been.

And I don't buy Harrison's bleating "that's the way I was taught to play"......Josh Cribbs does. No offfense to you but I respect a player's opinion more than any fan, especially when he was the "victim" of one of Harrison's hits.

Cribbs goes out of his way to defend and support Harrison on his own time. He even gives Harrison a compliemnt saying that is is one of the very best. It's clearl his honest opinion and not just a politically correct statement. If you disagree I suggest you atleast attempt to back it up.

I'll bet Harrison learns how to play football instead of thugball. You heard it on this forum first.

I'm not whining about it. Just pointing out a rather important fact that was conveniently left out. In a cause and effect situation you can't blindly criticize the effect while ignoring the cause. No whining, just pointing out the obvious.

Pick up your teeth, get on the turnpike, and shut yer hole, cleveland. You are to the NFL what the pirates are to baseball, and the clippers are to basketball- the laughingstock of the league. And if you had anything positive to look forward to with your team, you wouldn't feel the need to disparage the most successful francise in NFL history. When a team loses for such an extended period, it pervades the whole organization from top to bottom, and eventually affects the whole city. That is what cleveland is- a city with a giant persecution complex, blaming the team, the owner, the coach, the city, the dirty Pittsburgh Steelers. The whole city and everyone on this board needs a good slap across the face, and to be told "stop blaming other factors for your teams failure." You should hear how every other team's fans in the NFL laugh when the cleveland browns are brought up. All you bitching, teethgnashing, backbiting people are a hoot. Long live physical football, James Harrison, and the 6 time superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Harrison's hits will fill highlight reels for the next few decades like Butkus, Lambert, Brown, and Lewis, before him. Goddell, like cleveland, will be a minor footnote.

First off, find ONE post on this forum that said "gee, we would have won that game if only Cribbs and Massaquoi weren't hurt." Yeah- we lost the game, and we're moving on.

Enjoy seeing Harrison's highlight reel- because all of it will predate 10-18-2010. Your whiny little hero had to take the day off because the NFL won't let him spear opposing players anymore. I did notice he made the "highlight Reel" the NFL League office sent to all the teams of what won't be allowed anymore.

Sorry if you can't handle Browns fans telling you like it is- calling a thug a thug, and your quarterback an embarrassment to the NFL.
