I have been watching the Browns since Jim Brown's last year, which was 1965. And I think I am ready to say that Nick Chubb is the best Browns running back I have seen since J.B. That includes HOFer Leroy Kelly, Greg Pruitt, and everyone else. For those of you that have seen all the great RBs on the Browns since J.B., either in person or on video, what are your thoughts? Right now only Leroy Kelly is the RB that would challenge Chubb, imo. But I think if I were picking a team I'd go with Chubb.
I cheered the drafting of Jim Brown (WHEN we found out they drafted him later that night!).
I followed JB's career religiously & IMHO, Chubb IS the best RB since J.B. Both these guys had (have) similar assets.....power, elusiveness, speed, vision, & that ability to "change gears" in the middle of a run. The ONLY runner I enjoyed watching nearly as much was Gale Sayers, but he was a different type of runner.

And they got their doors completely blown off by the teams they are chasing in this division.
And yes I know Baltimore is behind the Browns in the standings, but I think we can agree that as a franchise the Browns aren't quite where Baltimore is year in and year out.
There is no doubt we aren't where the Ravens & Steelers are yet, that takes time, but I do believe a lot of pieces, on & off the field, are falling in place.

You think the NFL in 2020 might be slightly different than the NFL in 1960?
Yep, but similar style of play THIS year HAS taken the Browns to 7-3.

If this IS Stefanski's offense running at full steam, I think it is limited.
Baker today is not a dynamic quarterback. He's a QB that when everything is going well can be competent for sure, but he's not someone who is going to shred a good defense.
I'm hoping that Stefanski and Co. are treating him almost as a rookie this season, and he will progress in the future years.
Because if this is it, I don't think it is enough for the Browns to move into elite, Super Bowl contention.
And I say this as someone who all and all has been very impressed with Stefanski this season.
You mean, sorta like Bart Starr? 😉

The article below says so much about the young MAN we have in Denzel Ward & his upbringing. It just seemed appropriate that this be posted during this Thanksgiving season.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SO NOW THAT IS OVER WHAT IS EVERYONE HAVING FOR THANKSGIVING DAY ? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Traditional Thanksgiving Day fixins ? Turkey plus or maybe something else ?
Oven cooked turkey or deep fried gobbler ? Ham, steak, your special day meal ? All grilled food ? Pasta ? Pizza ? Eating out ?
Whatever it is take a few minutes in this crazy 2020 to give thanks for what really matters in this world.
~. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and have a great weekend. ~
And GO BROWNS ! (mmmmmmmm, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday football leftovers )
Fried Turkey, spiced with my secret recipe dry rub....same as the last 22 years! After the 1st one, my Bride said, "I'll never roast another turkey", & she hasn't! We'll also have mashed 'taters, stuffing & gravy. She's making pumpkin pie & I'm making peanut butter fudge tonight.
I have been, & still AM, a huge Baker Fan & I DO "trust the Jiggins".
Look at Baker's NFL experience so far...then look at Drew Brees' first few years in the NFL. These guys are pretty similar in many ways.
I've always been a Fan of Higgins, but I'm trusting this new regime on the handling of his playing/game time. After all, they know a hell of a lot more than I do.
A "turkey" for Myles would be 3 sacks.
Phillips interests me as well. He's the LB from LSU I liked most, so let's see. He's a "blue collar" player.
I would much rather have a good offense and weaker defense than the other way around. At least the games can be entertaining.
I'm in hopes that the D will start to heal up and improve as the season moves on.
I agree with the highlighted & I believe 2021 will bring a D loaded draft & FA period. That, combined with continued great coaching, will hasten our improvement. I hoped to see "progress" through this season and, so far, have seen improvement in every game this year. In past years, Browns teams would probably have just folded after 1) losing the early lead, 2) losing Chubb, & 3) watching Dallas get within 3. There is no "quit" in this Team & I credit the FO & Coaches with that. Also keep in mind that the Haslams put these folks in place, & are paying for this talent, so some credit goes to them as well.
Have to consider the opponent, but...
- 3 picks today... 2 by our "woeful" LB corps... including 1 by that 9th-yr pro who is not a vet.
- D allowed only 103 yd rushing including 22 by a WR on one reverse... so that's 81 by RBs and WSH has some good backs.
- 3 sacks including 2 with a trifecta by Miles "I'm just gettin' started here" Garrett
- Chubb goes for a buck + 08... Hunt adds another 46.
- Stef stuck with the run despite having issues getting going.
- Baker posts a very efficient 16/23 for 156 and 2 TDs with no turnovers.
- OBJ looked happy despite only 4 catches... routes looked crisp to boot...
- Ditto for Landry...
Nice game... nice W...
One thing I'll add that I've noticed in all games this year...we are wrapping up & TACKLING rather than doing that "kill shot" shoulder block shit! Finally, a coaching staff stressing fundamentals.
I can't think of a more entertaining RB in the history of the NFL than Sayers.
Agreed. Given good health, my all time "dream backfield" was Jimmy Brown & Gale Sayers. Sayers was awesome to watch running a football.
RIP Gale.
The HC says when Tyrod is well enough he gets his starting job back. I bet that tune changes if the rook is playing lights out until then.
Yep! Do we see a pattern here?
I'm always searching for new & simple seasonings & found a GREAT one for steak & pork.......
7-2-2.......
7 -Tblsp Kosher salt (Diamond Crystal brand. If another brand, drop it to 4)
2 -Tblsp fresh, coarse ground black pepper
2 -Tblsp GRANULATED garlic
I had Diamond Crystal, so I used the 7 tablespoons...it was great on grilled filet & grilled pork tenderloin & will remain my "go to" on those cuts of meat. The garlic MUST be granulated, NOT garlic powder.
It's a very simple rub & very easy for me to remember (no small feat at my age).
My memory says he did, against the Jets on Thursday night.
Yep...Tyrod got concussed down 0-14, Baker came in & won it...even caught a 2 pt PAT from Jarvis! I loved being in the stands for that one...I wasn't going to wear my Baker jersey 'till he was starting, but wore it that night on a whim & WHAM!
I know the linebacker play sucks, but I'm in zero hurry to get Wilson back. Pretty easy to aggravate his particular injury.
Yeah, I think the players' bodies in general were not ready for the pounding of NFL football & hope we err on the side of caution. I guess we'll see soon enough.
Sometimes the rest of the story was already covered in the flow of discussion you didn't read. I already mentioned the missed extra points in the 1st post of page 2 of this thread. Here's a cut and paste:
Seibert had a great year in 2019 making 25 of 29 FG attempts. The thing that puzzled me about him was as good as he was with the FGs - how does the same guy miss 5 extra point attempts? And then he began this year missing another. Again, how about the STs coach finding the flawed mechanic responsible for something that should be correctable in lieu of the knee jerk reaction?
ST Coaches had been working him out at 1st Energy on numerous occasions this year.
He also had ONE solid year in college.. https://www.footballdb.com/college-football/players/austin-seibert-seibe0006
Also, check out his stats per distance. I rest my case....I am no Seibert fan.
David Njoku
in THE BROWNS BOARD
Posted
I was pleased when they drafted him, but I was wrong.....
David Njoku is NOT a football player! He's a superb athlete with no heart. If they cut him NOW, I would cheer!
