THE BROWNS BOARD

What Teams Do You Think Will Want Our #4?

Tour2ma

Recommended Posts

I know that many of you have a pick you want for our #4 (Richardson, Claiborne, etc...)...

but please set all that aside for one thread. (Hey a guy can try can't he?)

What I'd like to focus on here is the potential value of our #4 pick...

1. So what team(s) do you think would want our #4?

2. Who do you think they would take with the #4?

3. Assuming we got a fair deal for the #4 that included the counter-party's 2012 Round 1 pick, what's the lowest you would consider trading and why?

I'm asking because I'm rethinking my mock (ala HarryBuf) and am hung upon question 1...

I'll hold my thoughts for a bit...

For reference, here's the Round 1 order as it currently stands:

1 Indianapolis Colts

2 Washington Redskins (from St. Louis Rams)

3 Minnesota Vikings

4 Cleveland Browns

5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

6 Rams (from Redskins)

7 Jacksonville Jaguars

8 Miami Dolphins

9 Carolina Panthers

10 Buffalo Bills

11 Kansas City Chiefs

12 Seattle Seahawks

13 Arizona Cardinals

14 Dallas Cowboys

15 Philadelphia Eagles

16 New York Jets

17 Cincinnati Bengals (from Oakland Raiders)

18 San Diego Chargers

19 Chicago Bears

20 Tennessee Titans

21 Bengals

22 Browns (from Atlanta Falcons)

23 Detroit Lions

24 Pittsburgh Steelers

25 Denver Broncos

26 Houston Texans

27 New England Patriots (from New Orleans Saints)

28 Green Bay Packers

Bold is yes I think they want our pick. Italics is maybe.

8/9 range is the lowest I would go. That way we could still get Floyd, Coples, or Reiff.

Here is what I am very optimistically thinking as far as moving out of the 4 pick goes ... and I know this whole plan is unlikely, but this would make my day.

The Browns are targeting (or atleast need to sell that they are targeting) Claiborne, Blackmon, Kahil, Tennehell and TRich

I am hoping the Bucs want either Claiborne or TRich enough to feel the need to move up the one spot. (Claiborne would be the best case scenario) We swap with them and and pick up either there second rounder or third rounder.

Next up ... The Rams want Blackmon and are worried we do as well. The JAgs also badly want Blackmon (all hypothetical of course) We make a deal with the Rams to move to 6 so they can select Blackmon and we pick up the Skins second rounder from them.

We are now sitting at 6. The Phins feel the heat and are thinking we are now targeting Tannehill ... we swap with them so they can indeed take Tannehill and we pick up there second rounder and a third (we throw in the falcons 4th) We are sitting at 8 now and the Jags having MJD either go Floyd or defense at 7. We grab TRich and pick up 2-3 extra second rounders 1-2 extra third rounders.

Like I said its unlikely, but it would be a great scenario and would really set us up for success for years to come. At that point we go heavily after playmakers in the first round (TRich and a WR) and then fill out our other needs in the second with up to 4 picks.

Also if the Bengals want Trich bad enough to offer both first rounders and a second for the 8 ... fuck it I would pull that trigger too.

I don't see us trading back any farther than the 8th pick. We could scare Miami into thinking we are going to trade with the Chiefs or that we ourselves will take Tannehill, maybe drive up the price a bit and trade with them, or trade back to 6 or 7 to St. Louis and Jaq who are both interested in Blackmon and Claiborne.

Thanks for the replies so far. Gave me some ideas and Here are my semi-coalesced thoughts...

I'm really thinking that unless someone trades for the Vike's #3, any deals for our #4 will be on draft day after the #3 has been used. And I think the Vikes trading out of #3 is unlikely as nearly all the draft pundits agree that Kalil is their guy. And if they trade below us, then we will find someone in the top 12 who wants Kalil and trade with them.

So with the Vikes staying put and tagging Kalil...

5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I think the Bucs are content to catch whomever out of TR and Claiborne fall to them. So no trade there.

6 Rams (from Redskins)

I think they want Blackmon, but if Claiborne fell to them, I think they're good with that. If neither is there they just might trade down. So no trade there.

7 Jacksonville Jaguars

Bit of a wild card here since the franchise is in serious disarray, but mocks seem to focus on a DE, either Coples or Ingram. So no trade up for them; if anything they may move down if an "elite" collegian is still around at #7...

8 Miami Dolphins

Tannehill... clearly we're the only team above them that might be interested in him... and I don't think we are... and I don't think they think we are... So no trade there.

9 Carolina Panthers

D-line is their consensus need, and DT in particular, and they certainly don't need to move up to grab a good one. So no trade there.

10 Buffalo Bills

A starting OT is their consensus goal. Kalil is gone but Reiff and Martin are there to choose from. So no trade there.

Noticing a trend as we leave the top ten???

11 Kansas City Chiefs

Romeo's new home offers the first glimmer of hope for us as they might be coveting Tannehill, but there are three teams below us that could well land them Ryan before the Fins grab him. But they could go D-line as well, and a growing consensus is for them to take future all-world OG David DeCastro.

So first possible, but not likely here...

12 Seattle Seahawks

DE or LB seem to be their need, a stud at one (Ingram) or the other (Kuechly) will still be on the board come #12. So no trade here.

13 Arizona Cardinals

OT is a need. Either Reiff or Martin should be on the board. So, once again, no trade there.

14 Dallas Cowboys

DING DING DING.... We (may) have a winner.

Jones perennially believes they are "only one player away" from their next SB victory.

This year da 'boys need a DB...

This year THE DB in the draft is Claiborne...

If they want Maurice, they talk to us...

Could net us as much as their 2012 1 and 2 and their 2013 #1... Payback for the Brady Q fiasco???

Question is now will there be anyone at #14 worth nabbing? Could be IF Kuechly is on our radar at all. Kuech goes to MLB and DQ to OLB... If Kuech is gone Reiff or Martin could be there... or Ingram (my guy). And there's always the possibility of trading back up to 10 or so, but that's getting pretty complicated for a mock. And once the trade back up thought is opened, trading down lower than #14 is a possibility as well...

There may be preliminary, foundational talks going on now with the Cowboys about a move down. Could simultaneously be talking to teams in the #9 to 12 range about moves up (under the guise of moving up our #22). We won't know until draft day... but...

I'm beginning to think for the first time that we will be staying put at #4... and I think that means Blackmon or Claiborne or Richardson. Not as exciting as a trading binge, but simpler...

When we pick, the odds are good Blackmon,Richardson, Clairborne, and Tannehill will be there, so really, every team in the league could have interest in moving up There is a WR, a RB, CB, and a QB. Everybody needs at least one of those positions.

We have a trading history with Dallas and they might want Clairborne. I'd think that could be a potential landing spot if we in fact trade out of the pick.

Here is how I see it. If we like Tannehill, we are selecting him at #4. If we decide to pass on him, we probably trade down to get some extra picks. If we want one of those picks to be a next year first rounder that might give us a shot at next years top QB, we are going to have to drop more than 2-3 slots...

The Redskins didn't have two first round picks within the year and they traded up.

HB, Gip,

Did not address this directly earlier, but the problems I have with the above scenario are that:

- any willingness to trade with a team, e.g., Miami, tells them we are not interested in the player that they are interested in, e.g., Tannehill; and

- I don't think the Chiefs are interested in Tannehill; Matt Cassel seems to be their guy for at least one more season.

Anyway my premise that the Viks will take Kalil, may not be true... and that would change everything.

What? Do you think the Vikes will take Tannehill, when they just picked up Ponder in the first round last year?

My view is that the Browns believe that 3 players will be gone by their pick: Luck, RGIII and Kalil Gibran. I also think that they may be willing to take any one of 3 players: Claiborne, Blackmon, Richardson.

If someone desperately wants Tannehill at #4, then I think the Browns will trade down to 6/7/8 if they can pick up another second rounder in doing so.

The question is who do they deal with?

Would it be to Crazy to trade with Carolina our 4 for there 9 And a 3 or 4th and also take Jimmy Clausen off thier hands, draft M. Floyd and then Doug Martin at 22. Im not saying that Clausen is going to be great but i think he could be better than Colt.
