I came across this group raising hell in October of 97 on AOL.

I fired up my new Gateway computer with the old dial up connection and the first thing I searched on AOL was "Cleveland Browns" which took me to the AOL Grandstand. I picked the handle "Zombo2000" because it was Halloween and I liked the "Zombo" character from the Munsters. And I guess "2000" sounded cool in 1997. Maybe not.

Of course, we didn't have a team yet, but we knew we would be back in 99, and there was plenty of heated discussion whether it be Modell, New Ownership personnel, draft prospects, general hate of all things Pittsburgh and Baltimore, etc.

Lots of folks were already there: Rich & Ghoolie (they hated each other then), KSHutchins, Hoorta, Furnier, Bear222 (Westside Steve) and some clown named Atenears who was in love with Andy Katzenmoyer.

A lot of the guys, like Shep and Mark-O came around about the same time as me. CalFox, DaRubes, Dency Guy, Flugels,Gumbo Dog, Chickopee John ... Thaak ... where has he been? He hasn't posted lately. Vette .. he was a trip. I am leaving out a ton of guys, and many of them still post.

Then we started moving around ... after much haggling by Furnier, we got a "private" Club on AOL, "Boo" was our moderator. But AOL sucked, so "Fat Dad" (Jimmy Deetz RIP Buddy) started "The River Burns", which was a great concept, but he never really got it off the ground. That's when Skippy started a site on CBS Sportline .. that was much more streamlined, and eventually Fatdad's site folded. Then, in 2003, Skippy bought this place and we had a permanent home after wandering through the desert for years.

Even after we moved, I always went back to AOL and posted "This Week in the AFC North", because you'd get a lot more Steeler trolls over there, and I'd love to incite them. I would see Gipper holding court on AOL in those days, eventually he found his way over to us and started pounding us with trivia.

I never wanted to moderate, because I prefered being a trouble maker, and I liked a fair fight ... didn't want to hold "Mod Powers" over someone that had a personal issue with me .. but I've gotten over that.

I'm probably the worst Administrator ever ... someone complained a couple of weeks ago that someone called him a "Retard" on the Board. And my response was "Well, then don't be such a Retard."

I guess that is part of what makes the Browns Board what it is ... we don't give a shit if you are whining ... but we do have a heart, and tons of passion for the Browns.

And if the mother fuckers would ever get their shit together ... we ALL can say we put our time in on The Browns Board.

True fans, every one.

Except about 6 of you.

Zombo

That pretty much sums it all up. Furnier found me on the AOL Grandstand board and told me about the AOL "private" board where you had to be invited. I stuck with AOL (I'm one of the 8 people left in the world with an aol e-mail address), never really got involved with the River Burns site and Skippy got me involved with him at the CBS site and then we all ended up here.

Hard to believe how long I've known a lot of you...and now we have our yearly trip back to Cleveland to try and destroy our livers and in my case hopefully finally seeing a win in person for the first time since 2001.

KS Hutchins, myself, pretty sure Atenears was there as well as guys like ArtBeitz, BeesIndy, & MetalMarte. Those last three are sorely missed.

What the heck was ArtBeitz real name? I had a few beers and wings with him at Hooters in Mentor about 4-6 years ago. He kind of warned me that it wasn't worth it in growing this forum beyond it's means, and to back down on building up this place and it's one of the reason's we settled in and quit expanding. He had some great sites, but selling out to Bernie Kosar and Insider took it's toll on him. He taught me to maintain at a manageable pace with the forum/ste and survive longevity. I believe he is still a member of this forum and on the BrownsBoard's facebook page.

There should be a Hall of Fame for those that helped carry the torch back in the day.

To this day, no other happening on the Internet has surprised me like the time our old friend JJ started posting off-the-wall nonsense that just made no sense. I private messaged him and asked if he was Ok, and that's when he informed me that he had a Brain tumor and his days were numbered. It was crazy to think that one could recognize a problem with another member of these forums, that we'd never met face-to-face, and know well enough to know something was amiss. It hit me then, that these forums were something special. Many of the friendships we've made here rival friendships that were created growing up or through high school. It's been an unbelievable bond and to this day is the most valuable tool the Internet has created. Who would have thought that tailgate parties would be filled with characters from all over the globe, who share very close bonds and stay in touch on an almost daily basis online?

Long Live The Browns Board!

I remember buying my first VCR in like '85. It was big and looked almost industrial. Nobody else I knew had one. We'd rent shitty horror movies and people came over to get high and watch!

i remember the first 'top of the line' vcr when i was in germany. it was something that weighed about a hundred pounds and had the tapes pop-up from the top. back then in 83 it was like $650. now they throw that shit in the trash on recycling day.

i remember AOL and i still know people that use it. why?

cuz they are as old time computer illiterate as the old vcrs, videodiscs, and colecovision.

I know that I was in among the group that started with AOL circa 1995 or 1997. I did stay with AOL a lot longer than most of the rest of you for several reasons. I had format issues with the new "Browns Board".....really it was primarily a familiarity issue as I was used to the AOL format. Also there was a point where I couldn't find this group....which really was probably me being to lazy to look for all y'all. Then there was the the Steeler troll baiting question. I stayed on the AOL board longer than most because probably over half of my posts were of the nature of Chastising the ignorance/hubris/arrogance of Steeler fans.

Eventually that is what got me permanently kicked off AOL. I implied to some Steeler troll that his best course in life was to get up close and personal with the instrumentations produced by Messrs. Smith and Wesson. Steeler trolls being the prissy pussies that they are complained to AOL "managment". I mean, they were a bunch of cowards really. AOL not only chopped my message board rights, but also cancelled my e-mail account, which is the one I also used for my business. It took some scrambling to straighten my e-mail up. Nevertheless, with the aid and direction of Westside Steve, whom I usually watched the games with, I was able to "reconnect" here. I had been a member for a number of years, but was only an infrequent poster. But, I have since caught up.

But, at least for the last week there is one thing I have not had to do from AOL days: bash Steeler trolls. Have you noticed the sounds of crickets coming from that camp after they looked about like the #31 on the power rankings with their loss to the Titans?

Wow ... Uma lives.

Not only do I live, I come in peace....mostly.

After all, who but the most cruel amongst us could wish further harm on a fanbase as pathetic as this one has become?

It's only funny because it's true.

Besides, it's not like I didn't try to warn you about what you'd become.

That being, a fake team without a soul forced to wander about in obscurity until your bad karma is addressed and corrected with offerings of scotch liquids and cigars.

BTW, I found this board about seven years ago when a Bengal fan e-mailed the site address to me along with a few notes about how happy he'd be to see our hostilities resumed.

I happily declined the invitiation for more bloodshed, mostly because your team isn't relevant at all. However, I've lurked the site ever since, and despite my hatred for all things Brownie I have to admit I've grown to respect the way you losers have stuck together.

I'd even raise a toast in your honor of your birthday if that bastard Furnier had paid off his bet.

Huh.

You know what I find interesting?

Despite our "irrelevancy", three years without a team, and painful attempts at relaunching the franchise ... we STILL have won a playoff game more recently than the Bungles.

Debating who your next QB will be?

Then why do so many of your drunken posts smack of suicidal tendencies? Aren't you the same guy who threw in the towel on this season midway through the first half of the first game?

Look, I don't mind it when you toss out whatever passes for smack talk around here because this is your house an I'm just a guest who dropped by to say happy birthday, pinheads. But maybe you should dial back the bravdo seeing how you've already started threads championing the idea of starting the backup QB simply because he'll be a better mentor for next years replacement.

Didn't throw in the towel ... Proposed that maybe we could win this flea-bitten division with the better QB playing.

Besides, our ginger has a bigger arm than your ginger, and as many playoff wins.

The only reason you didn't throw in the towel is you were too drunk to lift your arms.

Your Ginger couldn't read a comic book, nevermind an NFL defense.

But don't take my word for it, read your own posts.

Andy Dalton will never cross over from "good" to "great" and that's never gonna be enough.

What would a Browns fan know about great quarterbacking?

Or even good quarterbacking for that matter.

Hell, the only Clevelander who currently knows how to fling a ball around is Bernies pornstar daughter.

My story is much the same as Zombo's and others. I can still remember the first night I signed on to AOL. It was the night of the 49ers vs. Chargers Super Bowl in January of 1995. The first thing I searched was Cleveland Browns and the second thing I searched was Alice Cooper. I immediately began posting on the Browns Grandstand board and the Alice Cooper board on the music forums. This was actually prior to the fiasco that the 1995 season became. I can remember a lot of optimism for the '95 team as we had a stellar defense in '94 and if not for Derrick Alexander's horrible case of dropsy in the AFC Championship we may well have beaten the Evil Empire in Slagsburgh and would have hosted the Chargers in Cleveland.

We spent the better part of 96, 97 and 98 on the Grandstand board crossing swords with a variety of numbskulls who reveled in the fact that they still had a team and we did not. There were no end of nimrods purporting to be 'lifelong' Squeeler fans, Infantile Rat fans who gloated endlessly, the leader of which was a facile twit named Adam who coerced approximately 6 Purple Abomination fans to wear diapers to the Browns vs. Flying Rats game in 1999. And then of course there were the sad sack Bunghole fans.......all 4 of them. One of which seems to have suddenly crawled out of his/its long dormant stage. Hopefully it grew some grey matter inside that pupae.

Browns fans are known for dedication, determination and loyalty but THIS particular group have exemplified these traits far more than any others I have come across. It has always been and always will be an honor to be a member of this elite group of fans. Cheers to all of you past and present!

Happy Birthday, pinheads.

BTW, the feetball gods have assured me that the curse of the Nuevo Browns will continue until that deadbeat Furnier pays up on the bet he lost to me. (12-year old bottle of Lagavullin Scotch)

Hey nugget head! Did those wildfires drive you out of your dime store Veterinarian Clinic at 1313 and a half Infected Tick Boulevard in Thousand Oaks? Or perhaps in the last 10 years you procured for yourself a valid address?

BTW, I drank the HELL out of that Lagavullin after it was returned to me the SECOND time.

Browns fans are known for being miserable drunks, kidnapping women for sex, endlessly whining about how they're losing interest in a losing football team, and not paying off when they lose bets on the internet.

Haha ... Uma ... greetings, it's been a ummm, a decade? Damn, we all have problems ...

Weird but Uma is one of us, chewed the same amount of megabytes ... he's sorta like the redheaded step-child franchise that he follows.

Always great to see old screen names though.

Barry....ahhhhh....maybe that helps

Yep, Barry McBride. I came across his facebook account earlier today while combing Erocc's account. Great guy, I just hope that his "responsibility" to write and meet quota's didn't dim his fandom. That man could write!

Only a Brown fan would be so stupid to craft an excuse about why he couldn't pay his debts, for years, due to his feeble inability to mail a simple package.

I'm guessing you never bothered to buy the bottle in the first place due to the fact that you're dirt poor, stupid, and a bit of a liar.
