thenew23 Posted October 16, 2014 Report Share Posted October 16, 2014 Last year I looked at the 3 basic team statistics that seemed to be most relevant with regard to teams making the playoffs, and doing well. They are - Offensive scoring, Defensive scoring, and Team QB Rating. In 2013, here are how the playoff teams faired: Offensive Scoring - 11 out of the 12 playoff teams finished in the top half (top 16) in scoring. (Carolina #18) Of the final 4: Denver #1, New England #3, Seattle #9, San Francisco #11 Defensive Scoring - 9 out of the 12 playoff teams finished in the top half (top 16) in scoring. (Philly #17, Denver #22, Green Bay #24) Of the final 4: Seattle #1, San Francisco #3, New England #10, Denver #22 (the outlier) Team QB Rating - 12 out of the 12 playoff teams finished in the top half (top 16) in QB Rating Of the final 4: Denver #1, Seattle #5, San Francisco #10, New England #15 I know it's early, but after 5 games here is where our Browns rank: Offensive scoring - #9 Defensive Scoring - #17 Team QB Rating- #8 If we can continue the offensive production, and start keepig the scores down by the other teams, it looks like we may finish inside of the "Stats that matter" category and get our shot into the playoffs... Denver may not be an outlier, if you average the O and D scoring rankings... 11.5 average... or use a point differential ranking?
