Browns part ways with troubled wideout Davone Bess

Posted by Darin Gantt on March 5, 2014, 8:19 AM EST

You could see this one coming, from the moment they planned to void the guarantees in his contract.

The Browns announced this morning they were releasing troubled wide receiverDavone Bess, along with wide receiver Brian Tyms and linebacker Paul Hazel.

The talented wideout raised eyebrows with a series of questionable Twitter photos, and eventually landed in a mental health facility after an incident with police.

Bess overcame a rough upbringing to get to the NFL, and at this point, the hope is that he can get his life back in order, beyond any concerns about his ability to play football.

the guys on the morning show made a good point. you think the NFL would come out with the way where the Browns could keep Bess on the team to actually get this guy help but not have it count against your salary cap. that aside good riddance we have bigger fish to fry than worrying about a crazy wide receiver

A shame really. To have the talent to make the pros and yet have your life so screwed up as to lose the chance.

Hopefully he can get himself straightened around and have success elsewhere. Just wish the Browns could be the beneficiary to a story like that.

Has Bess or his family come out and said anything about what happened to the guy? From what I understand he had his troubled in Miami but still was a very productive player. I was excited when we landed him because I thought we might finally have that slot type WR. Something this last year finally put him over the edge though which is unfortunate.

Bess, Hazel and Tyms ... Lombardi's big trade and Lombardi's magical out-of-nowhere bottom of the roster moves.

All three free to join him with the Patriots now!

I have no pity for devone... for someone who enjoys the ganja myself... it isnt addicting (ciggarettes are), it doesnt make you go crazy, its all in devones head. he chose to act like an idiot, to be all bob marley rastafarai... it was idiotic, hes a loser. if i ever blew millions of dollars doing that... i hope someone in my family and friends blows my head off..

Can you say WR overhaul?? We have 4 receivers... Gordon, LIttle, Cooper, and a still-injured Benjamin...

Other than that we have 2 reserve/future contracts in Gurley and Conner Vernon, and injured Charles Johnson who was a UDFA last year, all 3 of whom will probably be replaced...

I think this might be a position of need heading into FA and the draft... ya think?

dude has some skills. there is always, I suppose, the chance he can get his shit back in one sock. won't be the first time an underachiever fails to fully utilize his God given talents.

smokin bath salts through a sock?

He had some really good moments with us, but way more bad ones.

Well that drop against KC-and not just one- cost us a chance at that game.

Have to wonder if they'll keep Little around- he has the same concentration lapses.
