THE BROWNS BOARD

Trumaine Johnson CB

Unrestricted free agent.

Played for Rams under Gregg Williams.

Coming into his prime.

Would combine with Taylor and Haden to give us three nice cover corners, with Booty as the dime back.

This is the type of free agent signing that would get us on the fast track.

Man adding he and Eric Berry would be awesome

I like the talent level, but then. Collins big $$$, Joe big $$$, Trumaine big $$$. Berry humongous $$$$ to get him to leave KC. There goes that cap room in one shot. :)

Given the Williams connection maybe...

But I still don't see us making a big splash in the FA market in 2017.

I kinda felt like Jimmah was saying "get after it, speed this up" in his post-season interview.

He mentioned both signing our own and going after others ( not recklessly) as two of our three priorities, so I'm thinking we may add a long-term starter piece or two this year.

Another FA from LA Rams is Safety T J McDonald, he looks pretty good and don't think would be crazy money.

Not necessarily. At least, not for the next 4 years.

You could stagger contracts enough to offset some of the cap hit - Joe a 4 year, Trumaine a 5, Collins a 6, Berry a 7. Joe will likely be done at the conclusion of his while Collins could be moved before we hit that 12 mil/year backend. I don't foresee Collins being a legitimate force for more than 3 or 4 years and then we dump him to a team before we hit the redzone of his contract. Same for Berry.

The best part of NFL contracts and free agency is that they are backloaded, so a team that makes four or five big FA acquisitions in a year isn't necessarily in trouble for two to three years, which is more than enough time to draft and train rookies to fill in gaps when you sever unfriendly contracts.

Stack, roll and repeat. Stack with FA talent, roll unfriendly contracts into draft picks, repeat. Might not be the best talent evaluator, but I can manage a cap for decades.
