Legacy Fan
http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/02/us/fort-hood-shooting/ 8 injured, 1 dead from the initial reports. That gun-free zone is working out pretty well down there.
The Cysko Kid
It's a military base. Have you ever been to one? The workers don't just run around with guns. This gun free zone quip is kind of not applicable.
Legacy Fan
No shit they don't walk around with guns. All US military installations are gun free. The "quip" was made because the issue should likely be revisited. You make the best trained soldiers in the world "hunker down" and wait for local sheriff / state police? It's a fucking joke. The shooter turned the gun on himself finally when a police officer drew her weapon on him. If another soldier was permitted to do the same, I think we'd be looking at a lower body/injury count. The Cysko Kid
There is base security leg and I trust them as much or more than the 'local sheriff'
calfoxwc
Military bases can be huge. At Wright-Pat, a gunman could go out, and shoot a lot of people at the fishing lakes, and the SP's would never get their in time. OSI investigates after the fact of crimes. IOW,s...concealed carry is the answer. Gun free zones are areas where the good guys have no defense from some nut having one and acting out pretty much unstoppable for at least a while. calfoxwc
BTW, the drug "Ambien" is once again linked to a violent act by a patient. Not good.
Legacy Fan
There is base security leg and I trust them as much or more than the 'local sheriff' Yes, I know and they can take just as long to get there as the locals depending on base size.. I'm talking about other soldiers in the area, recognizing what is happening and being permitted to stop the problem themselves. They're "first responders" when deployed yet have to wait around for somebody else? Silly.
