THE BROWNS BOARD

Las Vegas sucks.

Been 5 times (drove in from LA) and got asked to go in the spring. I honestly declined. Most overrated city ever.

Fucking smoke exposure. You have to walk behind some barrel assed schmuck from Wisconsin scratching his ass, picking his nose and suckin on a cigar and blowing it in your face. These fatass tourist come in and blow 20k a Gilligan's Island Slot Machine, vomit inducing buffets and Celine Dion tickets. It's structured like a theme park but the theme is all things smut. I don't want to listen to some dumb bitch try to sell me a 15 dollar Red Bull and Vodka.

As far as living - Public Education Sucks, Huge Crime Rate, Horrible Pollution, Huge suicide, and divorce rate, 115 degrees in the summer.

Vegas does suck..Unless, it's your first time seeing it.. Then Las Vegas Blvd and all it's adult themed Disney styled larger than life resorts will strike you as one of the 8 wonders of the world..

We've been there so many times it isn't funny.. I'm not a gambler, I'm guessing that I've gambled less than $50 total in all of my excursions to Vegas.. There is a ton to see in a reasonable radius inside and outside of Vegas.. We spent two one week stints doing just that.. And more on subsequent later and shorter trips.. Spent a week at Circus Circus back in the day because we simply didn't know any better and had a DAMN good time!! Day trips every day outside of Vegas. Stuff like Freemont street at night.. Did a week at Aladdin (it's gone now)too. That trip was largely outside of Vegas..

We still fly into Vegas now and then when we go west simply because it's the cheapest hub to fly into.. Last time we did, we spent a night at the Hilton on the strip free with Am Express points. Rented a car, and spent the rest of the week doing the Utah national parks..(HIGHLY Recommended!!).. We came back, spent points on another free night at Luxor (total dump) and flew out...

Bottom line.. Flying into Vegas is dirt cheap compared to other regional hubs.. Red Rocks, The Dam, The Canyon, Zion, Canyon de Chelle, Sedona, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, Four Corners, Monument Valley..

So many cool things to see within the reach of Vegas that it erases some of the stench B)

I like Las Vegas......to visit

You just have to know how to manage things.

If you don't like the guy from Wisconsin blowing farts and smoking a cigar, hustle up and get in front of him.

You are absolutely right. I have done the same on several occasions. I once flew into Vegas, rented a car and did a circle tour of the likes of Death Valley, Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree. Then on another occasion did the same thing and did a circle tour of the Grand Basin NP, Capitol Reef, Monument Valley, Canyon De Chelly, North Rim of the GC, Zion, Bryce.

If I were to go into Sedona again I would probably fly into Vegas rather than Phoenix. Much cheaper air and car rental rates.

But, if this tells you anything: I own my timeshare in Las Vegas, right on the strip at Polo Towers. In almost 20 years I have never stayed there. Nothing wrong with the resort, but no, I have no interest in spending a whole week in Las Vegas per se, though I guess I could stay there and do some of the surround areas, but I would rather wander. Plus it is in the summer with that 110 heat.

Right, get by the guy from Wisconsin and then get behind the guy from Ohio and the guy from Tennessee!

Was there once upon a time for a conference, and to paraphrase a joke about Wyoming's burg of Rock Springs- the prettiest sight in Nevada is seeing Las Vegas in your rear-view mirror. Suppose it's nice to see the mega Casinos once, but if you don't gamble, you're going to get bored real fast. You can find damn near free hotels if you're willing to venture off Strip- haven't checked lately- but with the proliferation of other state controlled casinos- I'd bet even some of the on-Strip venues are offering the same deals. You're choice if you like dealing with a 1,000 room hotel- I don't.

Easy Western drive to Zion (spectacular). If you don't like to camp, plenty of cheap and nice hotels right outside the park in Hurricane UT.

South Rim of the Grand Canyon is around a 4 hour drive.

If you research it, there are some cool things to do in LV that are free.

We don't gamble, went with friends. Cool shows here and there.

But gambling? Most of the time, IF you are up 2 or 3 hundred bucks, you

will lose it all if you keep playing.

I played the slots once, three times, and won sixty bucks. I quit. That's how ya do it.
