Thoughts: We are thin on the OL. With Gilkey and Fragel getting cut, we have three backups on the OL: the versatile but mediocre McQistan, the turnstile Martin Wallace, and the guard from Morgan St. we grabbed off of Philly's cut, Karim Barton. I don't care how good he is, if your highest level of play is at Morgan St., good luck playing as a rookin in the NFL

We are also thin at WR, but I need more info on this Marlon Moore thing. What is he suspended for? Do you think we keep him after the supension? I would think so, which means someone else is probably getting cut ... probably the last DB K'waun Williams.

Our offense as hole lacks real depth, I hope to God we don't get injuries. Our defense looks awesome, and running back is probably our most improved position.

Spot on assessment. In preseason our second/third team depth in many places worries me.

We best hope for the o line to stay healthy else we are screwed. It is nice to see some decent rbs that can get more than 2 yards and fall.

We should be ok at O-Line, they should only have to put in 12 minutes a game, if preseason was any indication. That should keep them healthy for the year. Maybe buy them some nivea for the wind burn as the get blown past by opposing defenses.

O-line is not just thin... it's anorexic. Consolation factors include that Wallace does show better at LT and did OK-ish in his LG audition. Mack and Joe T. simply cannot get hurt...

Ditto for Tate at RB... he has to stay healthy. While I agree that we have upgraded from 2013, that's relative to... ummm... 2013. West will improve thru the season, but until he does he is just an OK back-up. Crowell? Flashed in one game against scrubs... I did like the flash, but...

I actually like the WR mix of vets and youth... I'd like it better with Josh, but I like it...

The one thing indicated in the Chart that I absolutely do not want to see is Benji returning Kick-offs... Let Gabriel have that job.

They list JM as #2 but I would bet my dog

that if Hoyer went down in a game right now, Grossman would come in.

My favorite movie gag of all-time...

And why did we pick that dude from SF over Mikel Leshoure, who the lions cut?

Dunno...

But what I do know is it's time for Z to update the Depth Chart.... a lot has changed in 12 hours...

Someone posted earlier that Terrance West was cut and signed to the practice squad ... but I'm not seeing it now? Is he still on the roster?

Zombo

I was a little worried about this one Z, unfounded fears. http://www.gogamecocks.com/2014/08/31/612547/cleveland-signs-connor-shaw-to.html

Can they pay Grossman a consultants fee, if he's unemployed?

Plus- hard to believe they wouldn't sign Johnson to the practice squad- nothing official on that one yet.

Two thoughts...

1. If we have not set a record for roster moves, then I'd like to know what the record is...

2. NFL.com really needs to buy a couple interns an overtime meal and get out up to the minute updates on cuts, claims and PS signings...

Seattle had 21 last year.

Bottom of the roster is full of hungry guys.

Zombo

Yeah. Im not too hung up on where they come from. Id prefer our coaches to ID the best players rather than keep "high picks" around just to cover their own asses and not because they are good.....cutting chase on picks takes some balls and I give em credit when they do that.....they've made some good choices so far.....Good bye Little, hello Gabriel.....Good bye Weeden, hello Shaw.....Good bye Mc Gahee, hello Crowell.....

Pett was saying, sometimes people get too hung up on where players are drafted - it takes a lot of strength and courage to be able to look at a guy you drafted a few months ago, and realise that he's not as good as an undrafted guy, and cut the draftee.

Here's the official depth chart for the Steeler game, although they mistakenly forgot to switch out Dion Lewis and Isiah Crowell:

Week-1-Depth-Chart.jpg

Kirksey and Gilbert did not break the starting lineup. But Armonty Bryant did, he'll start in place of Desmond Bryant who has a wrist injury.

Interesting to see Desir as Hadens backup. With his lack of play due to injury, I would have thought he might be behind Berry or Nelson.

Ima give Kirksey at least a 1/2 starters role, as Pettine has said he'd be the starter if his package is in on the first play. I think, right now, he's the "pass backer" and Robertson is the "run backer"......In addition to his great play for a rookie, I also think he has really lit a fire under Robertson elevating his play too, which is really good for everyone.....can't wait to see him and Bryant develop through the season!!

You mean the "Official Unofficial"? At least Crowell made the pronunciation chart...

Thought we'd see at least one rookie crack the starting D...
