Scientific like this, or societal like racism. You can attempt to convince those people otherwise, but many will stand firm. But, they will die out, and with them, many of their outdated beliefs. I think he is saying simply what has occurred throughout the ages: that older people can be set in their ways particularly when it comes to backward thinking. I mean, he is right...it is mainly the older generation that are the climate change deniers. I mean, this may be no different than when the "older generation" hated rock n roll....and expected it to go away. It didn't. Or when older generations refused to accept equality among races. It took Brown vs. Bd. of Education and a couple of more decades of Federal intervention....and the dying off of a whole generation who were brought up as racists to accept school integration. And the same for interracial dating/marriage. My wife and I joke about the fact that in so many of the English mystery shows that we watch that it seems that at least every other couple in those shows is an interracial couple. And think about it: older generations would still feel that is completely taboo. And, of course their is the attitudes about homosexuals and gays. That was a completely taboo lifestyle/subject for the older generation. So, this may be no different from that. I don't think Bill Nye is advocating the euthanasia of older people so that climate change theories can be accepted. He is simply saying that it is basically the older crowd that are climate change deniers, and that with the passing of the older generation there will be more universal acceptance of the climate change reality. Just like there is/was with school/lunch counter/bathroom etc. integration. Just like with interracial marriage, just like LGBT lifestyle acceptance. Hey, I have seen these science fiction movies/shows (or...maybe not science fiction) about how in the not to distant future we will have AI (artificial intelligence) beings roaming around...and how there may be great resistance/prejudice against those entities.
