THE BROWNS BOARD

This is not a thread: I just want to know why The Browns let Terrelle Pryor Go?

I've been living in a whirlwind the last several months since My Dad died. Moving, getting settled in a new town in Bum Fu*k, Florida, getting sick and haven't been able to find out why the Browns would let Pryor go.

Was he asking for too much money?

If you have an answer that would shed some light on this, I sure would appreciate it.

Pryor was the only bright spot in a dismal 2016 season. I have a sickening feeling he'll be the number 1 receiver in Washington.

Kenny Britt was highly paid for a guy that basically hasn't the talent nor the "Heart" of Terrelle Pryor

I will miss Pryor and his total willingness to do anything they asked of him. He put it all out on the field and was a special athlete and Team Player

welcome back Opal..on bottom of BB page turn to page 14. Pryor to Redskins..imo..Agent Drew "Bum fu*k" Rosenhouse overestimated Pryor's long term value & upfront guarantees. So they accepted trying it again next season. My hope now is that Cousins moves on to Bum fu*ked Anywhere else but in DC

Hi, Opal ! Sorry to hear about your Dad.

Pryor was a talented, but not polished wr. They offered him 32 million, and his agent thought he would

try to screw the Browns over for more money...that didn't work, so they went to

the Redskins, and he found out he wasn't going to be paid like a top wr...because he wasn't one, yet.

Not polished, etc etc. But his stupid agent went back to the Browns and they had lowered their offer, which

I would have done, too - he was using his other visit as leverage to get the Browns into an auction.

That blew up like a fuzzy dandelion in a quick storm approaching....

If Pryor had simply gone with it, proved himself a completely developed wr, etc etc...

he would have been on a roll. But he went too fast, too selfishly,

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2697597-terrelle-pryor-reportedly-wanted-to-return-to-browns-after-redskins-offer

and, he once txted Andrew Hawkins at 1 AM in the morning - asking him "do you think they will

run this play?" and Hawkins said "I'm off the clock, don't talk to me, I've got kids".

Like in college- he knew he was breaking rules, but it was all about HIM. Too bad.

Pryor and Rosenhaus are basically betting on Pryor with the one year signing to Washington.. Drew Rosenhaus is a cancer to football as Scott Boras is to baseball. I wish both men were eliminated from the process.. Why I dont blame people for trying to get all they can.. Prove you deserve it.

Yup- Rosenschuss thought after one 1,000 yard season, Pryor should be paid like Antonio Brown or Julio Jones. Sorry Drew- you found out the NFL management doesn't think that way.

It really doesn't make sense, especially in the NFL where career ending injuries can happen at any time. Pryor essentially turned down the deal Britt gladly received ($8 mill a year or so). His agent thought he could get much more, and he's an idiot. Pryor is in his mid to late 20's, and he's not going to get another big payday like this one, so he's basically betting on himself. Honestly, it doesn't make sense. I can't remember the last time I saw something like this.

You can't say he definitely won't get another big payday. If he has a monster season next off-season her may be the most highly coveted free agent. Will he? I'd put it at 75/25 he won't but it isn't a certainty. He has always been extremely confident in himself and this deal shows he is no different than his attitude he had since high school.

His agent overvalued him. We offered him a better deal than he got with the Skins. When he turned it down we signed Britt. He later accepted the Skins' offer.

He turned out to be our main weapon. But he was undisciplined. He turned into a trash talker and a loudmouth. During games he was an unsportsman-like conduct penalty waiting to happen.

One benefit of his loud mouthness is that he let everyone one know why we were getting our QB's killed...because the front office let too many good offensive linemen leave in free agency. Perhaps we have him to thank for our front office FIXING their mistake in this past free agency period.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Lost mine five weeks ago......it catches up with ya every so often...........God bless them.

So sorry to hear about your Dad. We had a nasty year too. My wife lost 2 siblings, and we had to put two beloved pups down. Life is a challenge for sure. But hey, you got us, and I think, if Tom Flugel isn't bullshitting us, one fun Browns year about to unfold.

A few things here:

1) Opal, very sorry about your loss. Ghoolie gives good advice about coming here for some escape from real world blues. I am also moving to Florida this week right near where I lived in the late 90s. Maybe we can find a Browns Bar where the backers meet Sundays if you're anywhere close to Clearwater/St Pete. There used to be this place called the Green Parrot that felt a lot like being in the Dawg Pound.

2) Ghoolie, as much fun as we have ripping each other - sorry about the loss of your in-laws and pets. We had to put down 2 pets in the last 9 months. Pets never know or care if you've had a horrible day when they greet you at the door to express you are their whole world. The type of bond that builds and perpetuates is just incredible.

3) Browns. Somewhere deep down in all of us - we have a feeling something is going to change for the better soon or we wouldn't be spending all this time talking about the Browns. Even if guarded, there's some excitement about some changes underway. Just remember we're all here because we're not all there. With that in mind, we have a big draft class here to fulfill their life-long dream they don't want to fail at. The worst thing we can do is let them know they are our enemies by writing hateful shit during their learning curves/growing pains and booing them week 1. A lot of the people that do that all the time turn around and wonder why none of the top FAs want to consider this place. Nothing good comes from all that negativity IMO.

Every team has a franchise Super Bowl QB at some time in their history is what I say and the Browns are due.

And then there are teams that somehow replace franchise QB's with another franchise QB. Makes me ill just to think about it.

This ^...

Pryor was a 28-yo, 5-year vet who just so happened to have had one great year at a new position. He wanted to get paid just like any "star" with his timeline and if that result was not in the cards due to how thin his resume was, then he was will to bet on himself... which is exactly what he did.

For our part we quickly moved on to Britt, who we essentially saw as the same player for the same role and was willing to accept essentially the same offer. Moving on made sense since as the market was moving fast and had Britt gone elsewhere then the market would have gotten quite thin in a hurry.

FWIW I put Pryor's odds of succeeding in Washington much higher... close to 80% based on what their WR room looks like.

Anyone want to swap with them? http://www.redskins.com/team/roster.html

Didn't think so...

You're allowed that because you're not a big OSU fan. Pyror got Jim Tressell fired covering up for his antics...

I am an OSU fan and knew all that. I should have deleted that part too. I was asking about the Hawkins story.

Hi Opal, sorry about your dad nothing easy about those kind of family situations.

On Pryor who really knows what some players' true motivations really are, and we just wait to see how his season progresses.

You don't always know either what the owner, GM, coaches' motivations really are unless some good stuff gets leaked out.

Yes at times he was an exciting BROWNS player to watch and root for.

Two things for sure:

1. No professional athletes now are really underpaid.

2. I think TP was/is still a personal d*ckweed.

Good to see you back! mjp

Tressel got himself fired lying to the NCAA

I hear that's now the new UM motto.

Shame too because he is a really good HC.

I cant believe that he is not back coaching someplace.

He's got a better gig for now, president of YSU and got old Youngstown friend Bo Pelini to run the football team and get them to the National Championship Game in year TWO.

....largely due to the fact that Nebraska owed Bo $7+M upon leaving in payments of $150K+/month. ;)

As far as I am concerned...Pryor is out of sight and out of mind....unless we are now talking about Calvin Pryor.

....or Richard Pryor, now he was cool.

Ok. No I'm just telling you he wasn't fired because of what Pryor did. He was fired for lying to the NCAA about. Even OSU couldn't spin that. And with everything we know Tressel did, and with what he was allegedly doing, I'd say OSU got off very easy.

He is a very good HC. Did some shady stuff, but good at winning games. Kind of like Saban. Though, I'd wonder if the game would have eventually passed him by if he stayed at OSU. Suffering one year of Fickel to get Meyer was definitely a better result.

Also, Tressel had a 5 year show-cause penalty levied against him by the NCAA, so no school was going to touch him during that time.

Again, the only Head Coach in the NFL that was willing to START Pryor at WR in a regular season game was Hue in 2016. After trying out here in 2015, Pryor was unemployed for all of that regular season except the final 3 games (he got very little game experience in).

He and his agent overrated his market value - while it looked like Sashi did not.

Pryor is betting on himself again; but he's going to a place that has a lot of openings at WR with a veteran QB that threw 25 TD passes (with over 4900 yards passing). What's interesting here is Pierre Garcon had very similar numbers to Pryor in 2016 with 79 rec 1041 yds and 3 TDs. It looks like he can replace and upgrade that. Even if he's turning 29 years old, Pryor doesn't have nearly as much mileage/wear and tear as other WRs his age.

Because Sashi remained more aware of market values than Pryor's agent, he was prepared to take the Kenny Britt who just had the highest reception volume of his NFL career, exceeded 1000 yards receiving and had 1 more TD reception than Pryor. Timing is everything. Britt was a first round talent; but he liked to party like Josh Gordon very early on in the career here in Nashville. Gordon was a Pro Bowl talent that would have been a 1st round pick if he didn't get kicked off Baylor's team twice for the same thing. Gordon is almost the same age as Britt. I would think the guy who has already turned the corner could be a good built-in support/peer influence for Gordon (if the unthinkable ever unfolds via getting his talent back out on the field). Maybe Sashi also had this in mind?

Right now - there's not a lot of warm fuzzies about the WR Corps. If Gordon does comes back this year - we could be looking at this as our WR Corps:

Britt

Gordon

Coleman

Higgins

Hall

Payton/Louis

+

TE

Njoku

DeValve

TBD

We're long overdue for some good luck for a refreshing change.
