Tour2ma
Gilbert definitely sparked the Kick return team. Obviously not what we spent a 1st Rnd for, but might just be the foothold he needs. Gotta be easier where you are contributing something. While a couple DBs have doubled as WRs (Deion springs to mind), the only DB I can think of offhand to transition to a full-time WR is Devin Hester. It took him forever, but he was a total stud of a kick and punt return man while his teams, Chicago and Atlanta, were patient. He is actually a decent WR for ATL now when not hurt. Side note: It will be interesting to see if Hester can make the HOF as a return specialist. Not sure anyone has ever made it just for that. There is one very successful example: Roy Green started as a cornerback (and a kick returner) and switched to WR after a couple years. Ended up with 559 catches for 8,965 yards and 66 TDs. jiggins7919
It's just another example of how we can't seem to get a first round pick right. IMO, the first round is really the only round that DOESN'T take skill to select. Any yahoo can check out mock drafts and select a player that is known around the world. It really isn't that difficult. Oh, we need a linebacker? Hmmm...how about Khalil Mack? What's that? We don't have a stud WR? Oh, and Julio Jones is available? Why gee, I'd love to have him. The first round, especially EARLY in the first round, is not rocket science. Sure, everyone swings and misses on picks. Nobody can be expected to be perfect, and many teams would LOVE the opportunity to trade back and acquire more picks. But SOMETIMES you just have to pick at the highest point you can. Statistically, the higher the pick, the better the chances of that player working out. We got a bunch of draft picks, including several years of TWO first round picks. But look where that got us. When you play against the Browns, you literally aren't scared of ANYBODY. Joe Haden? Nope. Josh McCown? Nope. Crow? Gabriel? ANYBODY? Seriously, when the opposition game plans against us, what do they say? "Well...the Browns really aren't good at anything. Just make sure we have over the top help as much as possible with Benji, and that's about it. Oh yeah, the Browns will try a bunch of stupid screen passes, especially by the goal line, but we should be fine." I want to love my team so much. I spend hundreds of dollars every year, watch every game at least twice, talk about them for hours...and every year it's awful. Listen, I hate blowing the team up, and that's a sure fire way to stay terrible forever, but what is the alternative? We have a GM that has proven he can't select difference makers. A defensive coach that can't coach defense, and we're hoping that a 36 year-old journeyman QB can somehow play at a high level all year? What kind of logic is that? Listen, I'll be the first one to commend Josh for his efforts, but sooner than later he's going to have an off game. It has to happen. So when it does, what will the score be? We don't get pressure without blitzing, when we do blitz, it's terrible, and we don't force ANY turnovers. Heck, the ONE interception we had all year was fumbled right back to the offense. The Ravens are completely banged up and don't have ANY options on offense, yet who in their right mind would pick us to win at a place where we haven't defeated them in 8 years? I was hoping that typing this would make me feel better, but instead it just made me angrier. SOMEBODY MAKE A DANG PLAY WHEN WE NEED IT.

Opal312
Trent Richardson, Brandon Weeden, Mingo, Gilbert ........ The defensive geniuses that are the Browns Front Office passed on Khalil Mack. Then they let Skrine, Sheard, Rubin go because they won't pay anyone. The chemistry isn't there on defense and drafting unproven rookies to make up for free agent losses isn't working And it seems that Pettine is losing the locker room a little bit each week. Gilbert is a bust might as well admit it and move on.

Zombo
I think 95% of the fans thought he should be returning kicks from the get go. Not sure why Marlon Moore and Shaun Draughn were in his way. I think the coaching staff punishes him, sometimes to the detriment of the team. There, I said it. jiggins7919
Do I want to blow up everything? Absolutely not...I HATE doing that. But...I literally don't know what to do. Here's the thing, if we were losing close games because our QB wasn't making plays, or because we had a litany of injuries, and our defense was keeping it close, I'd say we're very close. But that's NOT the case. We in most of our games because of our offense, and we're losing because of our defense. We have a defensive coach and a great deal of our team resources spent on on that side of the ball, yet we aren't seeing any results. We don't force turnovers, we commit way too many costly penalties, and we're extremely predictable. I mean, if the blitz wasn't working the entire second half, why keep it up? I need to review the game a bit more, but it seemed to me like Rivers was waiting on the blitz, and identifying how to exploit it before the snap. Our own defenders said as much. So where are the adjustments? Where are the guys on defense that are going to make the key play when we need it the most? Where is the batted down pass, or the strip sack, or bone crushing hit? Nobody in their right mind WANTS to blow the team up, but finding a solution without doing that is difficult. Is Pettine too close to our DC? Does the owner need to step in and tell him if he wants to keep his job, than he needs to find another guy? Right now our offense is really making some strides, and other than some terrible execution int he redzone, we'd actually be "good". The two screen passes called should've gone for touchdowns, yet our "all pro" offensive line whiffed both times, and we settle for fgs. Is that coaching? Or is it our players simply not executing? Blowing up the team completely sucks, and it sets your team back a couple of years (usually). I'm hopeful there is a way to vastly improve our team WITHOUT doing that, but I'm not sure that possibility exists. I just know that me, and many Browns fans, are so tired of watching a team get beat because we can't stop a team when we NEED TO. We simply cannot make the play when we need it the most, and we cannot draft top level talent in the first round. Our fans are yearning for people to root for, for a dominant defense, and AFC North style football....yet we are the furthest thing from it. I don't want to sound like a Negative Nancy, I really don't, but I'm disappointed. I live and die every Sunday with this team, and maybe it's pathetic, but I love them. I want a product I can be proud of.

D Bone
I think the coaching staff punishes him, sometimes to the detriment of the team. Zombo Off topic of the thread, but on topic of the quote, I think the same thing happened to Crow last year. Remember how explosive he hit the hole last year in the early part of the season? He saw a crack, put his outside foot in the ground and exploded to/through it, then he fought for the extra tough yard........ ......... Then came the fumble(s). The coaches overreacted, punished him with lack of playtime/starts and I'm sure harped like old women on ball security, and the result was the neutered Crow that we have today.
