They are both the same philosophy.

I prefer Sherman because he doesn't look like a sex offender on Law and Order SVU CHILDRESS.JPG

Why does Miami get first pick?

I think it is Sherman making the pick, not Miami. I could boil down to something as simple/stupid as the weather. Sherman spent all that time in Green Bay, then moved down to south Texas where the weather was not as bad. He may have decided "why put up with winter" if I have a choice.

Plus Shurmur may be on a shorter leash than Philben. Most coaches get 2-3 years to prove something, Shurmur already burned one.

I would have preffered bruce arians who knows a thing or two about our conference...but oh, well Walter White will have to do....i do agree this will be a disaster and this locker room will become a cauldron of dissent by October.

Arians does not do the WCO. That was the all important criteria.

Why do you think Chili brought Favre on board in Minnesota? Because Favre was a Holmgren WCO QB who knew how to run the system he wanted to run.

For those who say that the WCO cannot work in today's game, recall that just 2 years ago Childress had it into OT in the NFC title game.

Just got Netflix and can't and watched the first 3 seasons in a week

That's funny, I've been watching it for the last week and a half as well, I'm on season 3 right now and that's the first thing that came to mind when his picture was posted above. I just hope Brad is as "smart" and thinks on his feet as well as Walt. Brad needs to shave off the rest of his hair and get some glasses, I think it would be a good look for him.

Anyways, this is GREAT NEWS! I know some aren't excited about Brad being OC, but I AM! It means that we won't have as much confusion and lack of rhythm on offense next season! Our team looked sluggish and uncertain, down right slow getting in and out the huddle all season. Maybe Brad can light a fire under these guys. Plus, having worked with a talent like Peterson for awhile, maybe that bodes well in evaluating Trent Richardson's talent level. I like this pick. It puts two previous NFL Head Coaches around our budding young first timer, I think this will pay dividends for the Browns having this much experience at OC and DC! LOVE IT! :)

Some OC's don't call plays...they usually help gameplan, so Shurmur doesn't need to do alot of work like he used to do.

I got used to listening to 3 pressers when Mangini, Daboll, and Ryan were in town. Last year with just Shurmur and Jauron something felt like it was missing... I can't wait for Childress's pressers! Should be a hoot, another pair of fresh eyes evaluating our talent should help Shurmur. Anything is better than what we all watched last year on offense, look at it this way- It can't get any worse. It's a win-win for Childress, a low pressure situation in which if he excels, great. If not, he didn't have much to work with anyways... it should work out fine however. Best of Luck Brad... Shave the head, shave the head, shave the head... maybe we can convince the players to pull a Brady Quinn on him :)

Childress isn't the answer for Browns

January, 27, 2012

By Jamison Hensley

The Browns made the right call when they decided to add an offensive coordinator, and they needed to hire someone with experience.

But hiring Brad Childress -- who was officially named offensive coordinator -- is not the answer. The Browns really needed to push to get Mike Sherman, who appears to be headed to the Miami Dolphins to be their offensive coordinator.

The problem with Childress is his track record with offenses. In the eight years that Childress has been a head coach or offensive coordinator in the NFL, his offenses have ranked in the bottom half of the league five times.

The disturbing part is he's only been an NFL playcaller for one season. The result? The Vikings finished 23rd in yards and 26th in points (17.6 per game) in 2006 before Childress passed those duties over to offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell the next season. Childress didn't call the plays in his three seasons as the Eagles' offensive coordinator (Andy Reid held that role) and he didn't call the plays in his final four seasons with the Vikings.

That resume doesn't inspire confidence that he will turn around a Browns offense that scored more than 17 points twice last season. Then again, it's hard to imagine any coordinator could really affect an offense that has major question marks at quarterback and running back as well as a void of playmakers at wide receiver.

Hiring Childress isn't the worst move. The team could have simply promoted quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple, but that wouldn't have accomplished anything.

Pat Shumur was overwhelmed in his first season as the Browns head coach, and he needed to have the responsibility of running the offense taken away. The only way an inexperienced head coach will succeed is if he has experienced coordinators supporting him. The Browns will have veteran voices with Childress and defensive coordinator Dick Jauron.

If I were Shurmur, I would rely on Childress' advice but not his play-calling ability

Browns building an experienced coaching staff and will return to greatness. You need to give them time with the new regime. Stop being so negative and chill out with "chilly"

...they might consider taking Kendall Wright but not RG3. Kendall Wright made RG3 look good, he'll do the same thing for Colt McCoy.

Poetic ... Please.

Griffins arm is electric. Colt has to crank it up. If that difference results in two big plays a game, that's the difference between contending and losing by less than seven points every week in excruciating fashion.

what the heck is hiring this dimwit supposed to accomplish? he's never done anything, he's just another retread with limited personal experience of success on his own.

If Childress is the answer, I don't want to hear the question.

Wasn't he one play from the Super Bowl as a head coach two years ago?

Who were you expecting, Lombardi?

I gotta agree with the Worrys on Childress he didnt do anything in Philly that was all Reid...

Makes me wonder though wasnt he the one who thought Tarvaris Jackson was a stud?? RG3 may be coming to Cleveland i guess that could be seen as a positive at least

Nice to see Holmgren and Heckert sticking with their plan of handing out cakewalk paychecks to their buddy-buddies from yesteryear.

If you really think all these guys don't WANT to win, and they want to end their careers being a joke, I feel bad for you. Everyone in this league wants to win, get your head straight.

If you think a new OC is going to be the reason any QB gets drafted then your an idiot.

Don't look now, but I think FINNIGAN1 is Brad Childress. He's the only person who could be so amped over this hire.

If the reason we were looking for an offensive coordinator was to relieve Shurmur of the pressure of calling plays, why bring in an offensive coordinator with no history of playcalling?

To me, this move reeks of a "good ol' boy" network hiring. That's not always a bad thing, except in this situation it means two things:

1) We now have two coaches on the staff who do not know how to call plays.

2) We will be taking RG3 in the draft.

Childress was credited with "developing" McNabb in Philly, leading him to five Pro Bowls. In Minnesota, Childress showed an affection for Tarvaris Jackson, trading up to get him in the second round, when Jackson was predicted as being a 4th round pick at the earliest.

I'm sure Childress sees RG3 as his next McNabb. McNabb and RG3 had very similar college careers. Granted, RG3's numbers were higher, but he attempted nearly twice as many passes as Donovan did in college. It's a safe bet that Donovan would have had very similar numbers if he played in the "pass happy" system offenses of today.

"I think you judge quarterbacks a little bit differently...When you see what you want at the quarterback position, you need to go get it. And that's exactly what I see with ____________________ is a guy that's a piece of clay, that has all the skills in terms of, No. 1, what's he look like throwing the football?...He's got a great throwing motion; he's athletic. He has all those things that we're looking for, and he's wired right."

Brad Childress, on...no not RG3...Tarvaris Jackson. If that's not foreshadowing then I don't know what is.

And FINNIGAN1, if you want to call me names try to belittle me, have the balls to do it where everyone can see. Don't personally message me insults, you pussy.

And stop double and triple posting, asshole.
