THE BROWNS BOARD

I See a Little Roadwork in our Immediate Future...

Thanks to the Njoku-yielding trade up, we now have two holes in our draft. Do we fill them? If yes, how?

The holes are:

  • a small one to start Day 2 from 2.01 to 2.20, and
  • a massive one spanning Rounds 3 and 4 from 3.01 to 5.01.

I expect a deal, or two, to fill in one or both holes, but especially the latter. While the first hole costs us Kizer, if we liked him, it'd be an expensive hole to fill. It's the second hole that really concerns me.

A bunch of very solid talent will fall into "Hole muy grande", if we leave it as is. I just don't see how it can be left as is. However, to fill in the big one will require us to dip into our pot of 2018 picks.

I think both 2018 R1's and two of our three R2's are untouchable, but in 2018 we also have:

  • two R4's and...
  • two R6's to put in play plus...
  • we have three 5's and two 6's left this year.

Try this on...

  • Our 2018 second, likely somewhere around 2.06 to 2.08 for a team's 2017 3rd, and maybe 6 or 2018 5th, in the same range.
  • Trade back 3.01 for a later, 3.20-ish, 3rd and a again a 5th or so, a late 4th if you can get one.
  • Package 5ths to get another 4th.

Far from filled, but not nearly as empty as the big one was...

you have to be very happy with the Kizer pick

"Very" is a bit overstated, but I'm good with it. Simply did not think he'd fall to our #52... and apparently neither did our warroom.

Like I posted before... I flitted from QB to QB this class like I was pollinating them. I never really stuck with one for long other than my darkhorse pick. Late I realized my lack of conviction was telling me something...

So where I landed on this QB class is that there is simply not a lot of difference between the potential of the "top 3 (or 4 or 5)" and the Day 3 guys. I honestly believe that if he overcomes injury and "issues", then Chad "Tour's 2017 Darkhorse" Kelly will emerge as the best QB in this class.

Hell... even my Board-mock fallback... necessitated after Chad was stolen picks before he was mine... that I had to take in Round 6, CJ Beathard, was taken in the 3rd yesterday.

Shock? Sorta... because we have seemingly avoided players with multiple strikes... and Chad has 'em...

Delight? Yes...

Does he make it to the 6th? Doubtful...

I'm not a QB Draft Double-up kinda guy, but I just don't see a lot of "talent" at the ass end of this draft... and that's unusual. So a double up this year makes sense. Add that Chad's a PUP candidate due to his wrist surgery and I like te dbl-up even more in this situation.
