THE BROWNS BOARD

Jonathan Paul Manziel

Here is something out of the article to take note of. The Browns should focus on the offensive line, not the quarterback. Improve the line for Hoyer and I guarantee you will see good results.

"But the real story isn't that the people around Jones talked him out of Manziel, it's that they're responsible for protecting their current investment, Romo, by surrounding him by offensive linemen taking in the first round in three of the last four drafts (in addition to Martin, Dallas took left tackle Tyron Smith in 2011 and center Travis Frederick in 2013)."

What our offensive line needs is real depth. Our starting five is terrific, but the hole at center has killed our interior and our run game. I would definitely draft an interior lineman in the early rounds with Mack with one year left on his contract and Greco a guy that could be replaced down the line. And start grooming a versatile tackle as well. We need three good backups, Seymour could be one of them, if they can develop him more in the off-season and camp.

Mack went out and our run game became non existent and Hoyer has looked bad as quarterback. Our running backs looked good enough before Mack was injured and same way with Hoyer. So the answer seems to me is not replacing these guys but improving the O line. It would be great if we had the luxury of trading away draft picks to get a possible franchise qb like Mariota but we have too many holes to fill on both sides of the ball. I would agree with your assessment Zombo. Bring some depth into our O line. On offense it all starts with the line. That improved offensive line has made all the difference for Romo. You see it all the time in the NFL even the great qb's don't look so great when they don't have the O line to block and protect. We saw it here with Mack getting injured.

Two ways to add depth... Upgrade starters and add prospects. One of each would do nicely.

Lets get a billboard in Dallas next to cowboys stadium that says "Bring Johnny Back to Texas!" That would get Jerrah for sure.

or more simply... "Save Ferris Johnny"...

If the Browns could trade Manziel for a third rounder they should take that deal in a heartbeat. Those articles posted are well before Johnny was seen in prime time against the Bengals. I have to believe any prior interest in Manziel is now gone.

Yeah... there is that whole "now that we've seen him" thing.

The 'now we have seen him thing' worked for me. I wanted Pettine to put Manziel in during the Colts game. After seeing him in the Bengals and Panthers game I got cured. I had to see it for myself and I know I am not the only one. Pettine of course had seen Manziel all along in practices and had to have known Manziel was not ready but too many people like myself had to see it.

Way too many people I respect in the NFL feel as I do about Manziel. Manziel may not be happy about the Browns exploring all options at quarterback for 2015 saying it is not fair to him be evaluated after only playing 7 quarters I would counter with his own statement he did not work hard enough. In his second game he goes out with an injury early only reinforcing he will not be able to stay healthy.

Jimmy wanted the punk, Jimmy got the punk. He will never see year 4 in the NFL.

People keep saying that. Is there any proof of that? If there is, shoot us a link. If not, at least express that as an opinion.

Do you or anyone else have proof that Haslam exerted a "veto", so to speak and selected Johnny?

Just saying

The trade up and pick reeked of desperation, and so far, Farmer hasn't shown that as a trait.

Have you NOT read about the HOMELESS man that told Jimmy to draft Johnny???

That idiot threw a 100K research out the window because a homeless person told him Johnny is the PICK.

WTF!!!

WHY!!

WHY?!?!?!?

It isn't about the 7 quarters but lack of preparation.

All the offseason stuff, the parties, the lack of understanding the playbook, etc.

Idiot still thinks he is in college and partying it up. The NFL don't wait for people to MATURE. You either prepare your butts off until you get called. When your time is up, you either shine or crash and burn.

Being on IR required he go to treatment. He was not late. He didn't show up. The team had to send security to get him because he also didn't answer his phone.

Arrogance is not the same as confidence. Kid is an arrogant prick that has never been held accountable because he was the star QB. He has been trained to handle the media with words. His actions don't back those words up. Part of the problem is his celebrity status. He can do whatever he wants and people want to know every move he makes. Can anyone name another back up QB who had a weekly Friday presser?

Miles Austin has been on IR for weeks now and has been to every walk thru even though it wasn't required. True professional. Johnny is about as far from that as it gets.

Well he crashed, can he pick up the pieces?

The one thing I feel good about on this forum- there's way more guys being objective about JFF now that we have a season's worth of having him on the team. Funny how most of the Johnny thumpers have gone back to Texas.

I'm not giving up on him- YET. But Hound Dawg speaks the truth. Really, how many of the younger generation have their cell phones permanently attached to their bodies- and JFF can't pick up a call from his boss?

My gosh, over on the 'Tard they're still defending his every action- we should have coddled him more, built up his ego, not called him a backup, not screamed when he stunk against the Bengals. One guy went so far as to say running the sweep on the play he got hurt was a mistake.

So let's see- ran a gimmick offense that wouldn't translate to the pros. 50\50 jump balls to Evans. Injury risk. No playbook. Party Animal. Hoorta commented his accuracy fell off when forced to his left. Funny how that one int happened on a roll out left.

I can't believe his Groupies still think he's going to be the unquestioned #1 qb going into 2015. Riiiight. From a coach that cut Ben Tate, and benched Gilbert for non-performance. Pettine will give him about as much slack as Charlie Frye had once upon a time- his job happens to depend on it.

Haslam is a mean SOB. I think the season ends and two quick trades are made. Good-bye JM and JG, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Send them both to Minn for Peterson and a draft choice. Let's show the world what the Browns stand for. Don't come in here with an ego and perform below expectations. Sign BH and Shaw. Find a third QB to compete with them. Put other players that didn't give their best on notice.

Yes pettine's job does depend on it- which is barring some major surprise johnny will be the qb starting 2015. You think pettine is going to chance his job on shaw? Or chance his job on some no hope for the future jason campbell type journeyman backup fa we will probably pick up? Hell no......whatever you think of jf, he's got a better chance than the other options(hoyer will not be here....and even if he was in case you hadnt noticed he sucks but thats not relevant) would of turning this around.

Shaw will determine his fate to a degree with his performance today. JFF has shown laziness and weakness.

Not surprise here.

I'm so happy all the JFF fanboys are all hiding under a rock. Where are they now?

Not hiding under a rock. I wouldn't call myself a "fanboy". I didn't join this board because of Johnny, I joined because I am a lifelong Browns fan and I hate to see what is happening to us.The Texans game was bad enough but the Colt game was the last straw.

Johnny can play, there is no doubt. The "fanboys" watched him tear up the best conference in college football with no defense what so ever. The only team in the West he couldn't beat was LSU mostly in part due to great defensive lines (the first one anchored by Mingo). Johnny had a coach at A & M (Sumlin) who could rein him in, keep him focused. He is immature but when he finally figures it out, I'd rather have him on my team than having to play against him.
