Sources: Cavs fire Brown after second-round loss

NEW YORK -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired head coach Mike Brown, two league sources told SI.com.

Brown, who won the NBA's Coach of the Year Award last year, compiled a 272-138 record in five seasons leading the Cavaliers. He also led the team to the playoffs in each of those seasons, including a Finals apperance in 2007.

Cleveland's inability to return the championship round in the last two years, especially after nabbing the league's best record in both seasons, drew criticism of Brown's ability to manage his team and wining rotations.

A source also told SI.com that GM Danny Ferry will be retained by the team for the forseeable future.

Report: Cavaliers dismiss Brown

ESPN.com news services

The Cleveland Cavaliers, fresh off a six-game, second-round loss to the Boston Celtics, have fired coach Mike Brown, SI.com reported Friday, citing two unnamed league sources.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was scheduled to address the media at 2:30 p.m. ET, though specifics of what he was to address beyond the team's ouster from the playoffs were undetermined.

General manager Danny Ferry was to be made available at 4 p.m.

ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher was told by a team source, when asked about the report, that it was "not accurate."

Brown is a year removed from winning the NBA's coach of the year award and three years removed from leading the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals.

He has gone 272-138 as coach for the Cavaliers over five seasons, having recorded the best record of the NBA's 2009-10 regular season at 61-21.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

IMO Shaq and Lebron will be happy with this move. you could see their disgust while sitting together during the game 5. I wouldv'e loved to of been sitting within hearing distance to listen to what was said.

Owner Dan Gilbert is on the air in his press conference and has denied that Brown has been fired. However, he would not endorse Brown that he will remain at the job until after they have more time to evaluate everything.

He has apologized to the fans for failing.

After Lebron tore off his jersey after the humiliating loss last night, I'm sure he was meeting with his agent to try and screw the CAV's and the loyal fan base to him. He is a jerk off.

Dont you mean months ago?

Well, let's say this- hindsight is always 20\20. What I don't get is if LeBron was going to leave all along- as is getting more and more apparent by the day- why go away mad? LBJ's FA actions screwed the Cavs over as badly as humanly possible, spit in the face of fans that worshiped the ground he walked on for seven years on National TV, and then tries to recruit talent off of the team you deemed unworthy to win a championship with?

Hey LeQuit. You'll eventually figure out putting the value of a Championship ring over everything else has repercussions you didn't think possible.
