They are not to gain access to any information they are just to verify any information released. So if wikileaks dumped a kerry file or whatever, anybody can generate a sha-256 sum on the file and compare it to what wikileaks posted on twitter. Wikileaks has been dumping stuff every day for the past week+ They have like 40,000 more Clinton emails still. Assange is not the only person with the wikileaks documents, so it's safe to assume if something happened to Assange that whatever he has would be released anyway. Just because you may support Assange doesn't mean he gets free range to be believed at face value with absolutely no proof. Moreso, the reason I believe it to be strictly from Ecuador is because frankly it's a really stupid plan to begin with. It's 2016-cutting the access to internet wasn't going to stop the leaks for more than 12 hours at most.
