THE BROWNS BOARD

Kathy Hutchins (1950-2014)

Kathy Hutchins (KS Hutchins) has been part of this group, well, since before me, and I came along in 1997. Many of you know her for her wonderful Fantasy Football narratives the past few years, while many more of us remember when she was a full time participant known as "Mom" around here, because she always got the boys to act civilized when she walked in the room with just her mere presence alone, and definitely through her insightful posts.

Kathy is suffering from an aggressive, malignant brain tumor in a hospital in her adopted town of Greenville, S.C.

Our good friend Beanpot has been with her every step of the way, I have known about this for a month or two, but kept it private as per her wishes.

It seems she has taken a turn for the worse, and it is time for us to pour in the prayers, the good vibes and the love for her and her two boys, grandson and extended family.

Please keep Kathy in your thoughts and prayers.

Todd (Beanpot) told me a touching story of how, despite the inability to show much emotion these past few painful days, tears came to her eyes as he described Tashaun Gibson skirting through the Saints offense to score a huge TD. She loves her Browns and Indians. And she is a wonderful, wonderful person.

I don't know Kathy but to see the respect and love you all feel for her despite occasional differences she must be a wonderful woman. My prayers go out to her and her family and friends. I lost my friend who actually introduced me to the joy of fantasy football 10 years ago to a brain tumor as well.

I've known Kathy online since those early years (97'?), and met her personally for the first time at our day-long tailgate party for the First Browns game back in the League in 99'. She made the group badges, and I received a tiny Browns jersey with the #1999 on it, that still covers my paper-clip holder on my desk to this day. Great lady, and a good friend that I kick myself for not staying in better touch with her the past 4-5 years.

Saddens me to hear the news that she is hurting. She has great kids and family that along with herself are deeply in my prayers. Can't say enough good things about her - the classiest person who has ever graced these football forums.

She was great, her posts always were very intelligent, she really kept

this place more civil, still fun.

I've missed her being here, and wondered what happened.

So sorry to hear, and sorry I never met her in the real world.

God bless her, and her family.

Just spent hours combing over old pictures of this group from the past 15 years. Watched the Channel 3 newscast of our crew at the September 12, 1999 tailgate party (first game back of the new era), and the interview of Kathy. I have pictures of Kathy being interviewed somewhere and many of that tailgate party. In my search, I read many posts from Kathy over the years and it just solidified what class she is as I've always remembered.

Reminisced about how my flight got bumped coming home from Vegas a few years ago and I missed her attending one of her last tailgate parties with us. Remember having lunch with Kathy at Chilli's in North Olmsted 4-5 years ago and that might have been the last time I seen her face-to-face.

Hope I get another chance to tell her how much of a glue she is to the group that stuck together all of these years that helped form this forum. Kathy has been the best of all of us, and I hope that she knows that.

I've been a little pissed off at a few in our close nit group here and didn't factor on enjoying their company this weekend while all are in town, but in combing through memories of Kathy, I realize that life is too short and that petty bullshit today isn't worth missing out on the company of some truly great friends.

If any of you have an opportunity to get into town and meet some of these folks on this forum, I'm telling you firsthand that it will make your experience here on the forum 1000X's better than you could ever imagine. Take for instance, I'm a real asshole personalty here on the forum, but in person I am just a big huggable teady bear.

Here's to many more memories with Kathy and long live the Browns Board and everyone who frequents it!

she was the only female presence here on the board (and still is) when i joined. even she understood my crass asswhole behavior and shrugged it off as just being another disgruntled fan.

i've gotten creamed in every fantasy league on this board since joining and it was always hers (league 2). now i have the honor of TRYING to hold onto that type of class until she's strong enough to get back and do it herself.

never met you kathy but knowing what i know about you, i want to say i miss you here and it can't be too soon before you grace us with your presence once again.

love you!

Kathy goes back even farther than that- all the way to the old AOL Message Board. I got my first computer circa 1995- so it's going on 20 years the old timers have been together. That was so long ago I can't remember everyone who was a part of it- but most of us first hooked up for "The Final Play" that was when they let the fans on the field before they ripped Old Municipal down. If you ever wonder why we (sometimes) keep Ghoolie around- he's part of the original group too. (PS, if you ever met Ghoolie in person, you'd probably like him- his online and real persona are polar opposites.) We're sort of a big dysfunctional multinational family. As Atenears said, if you're in town, come down to the tailgate and meet up with us. It's only an annual reunion weekend now- as you may guessed- some of us are getting up there in years. I'll be there, along with Zombo, the Gipper, and plenty of the others.

So yeah- Kathy- I only hope the best for you. Hang in there- prayers and good vibes your way.

Sorry to hear that Kathy is struggling. I remember when she was a frequent poster on the board. And her insightful, intelligent posts. It's hard to believe I've been here since 2006. Get well Kathy... We have you in our thoughts and prayers.

Kathy friended me on Facebook even though she had never met me because she said a Browns fan is her friend no matter what - I hope that the vibes we send out to her make a difference I truly do. To echo Atenears comments, life is short - let's not be assholes to each other on this board - something kathy all too often had to step in and pull us up on.

Reading this here today was like a punch in the stomach. Kathy is one of those people who has the ability to always make you feel better about yourself, about life, about our team, about everything. She is nothing but positive energy all the time.

I first met Kathy on the AOL message board in January '95 and I know for a fact that she predates that because I remember her saying she was part of group that migrated to AOL from Compuserve. For you LONG timers another one of those people was MetalMarte. From the very first she welcomed me like we were long lost friends and I have never and will never forget that. Meeting her in person at our first tailgate in 1999 has always been a memorable moment to me. From her beautiful smile all the way down to her orange tennis shoes she was nothing but class and positivity just like she was online. I still have and proudly display the name badge she gave me that day. I last saw her on 10/25/2009 when the Packers wiped the floor with us. Every tailgate since I have always hoped to see her again. She is truly one of a kind.

I know she has a close knit family and I'm sure they are all there for her. I feel bad for having lost touch with her as much as I have, as well as this group in general. Even though I have been largely absent I consider you guys to be a second family and Kathy of course is 'Mom.'

ALL my prayers and thoughts and positivity and good vibes to you Kathy and all your family. Like our love for our team. Never give up and never give in.

(((Hugs))) to you Kathy.

truly unfortunate to hear this news--my sympathy genuinely goes out to you and your family Kathy.

...for what that's worth.

English words.

well-intentioned yet abstract thoughts.

ideological actions.

no disrespect to anyone's faith, but one of the most insightful books I have ever read was entitled "Stop Praying, Start Doing".

i do not mean to imply enough isn't being "done", (can enough EVER be done for terminal illness??) just that as humans we do have tangible resources beyond basic prayer for one another.

in our capitalistic society we "treat" illnesses. elsewhere they occasionally successfully cure them.

these links are worth at least a look...much to the chagrin of the American Institute for Cancer Research and MANY American specialists, simple alkaline diets HAVE accomplished the impossible in many people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and shades.

just my $.02...and my hopeful personal approach...in addition to consciously feeding the cannabinoid receptors inside our skills that evolved over millenia...that the majority of us now neglect.

GOOD LUCK BEATING THIS SHIT. my immediate family is struggling with cancer as well.

**sending positive vibes and energy...may they manifest in courage and impenetrable human will**

Any update?

Yeah, her reaction to that INT return was unbelievably awesome. She has Browns stuff in her room - she has a Browns blanket on her bed and Browns pillow too :-)

The one decent thing about this is that she doesn't seem to be in a terrible amount of pain, thank God. She can't speak (a few whispers occasionally) but she can nod and shake her head a little bit and she only very rarely communicates that she's uncomfortable. She has pain medication that's given "as needed" and she hasn't needed it all that often.

As far as sending her anything, that's kind of tough right now. She's in the process of being transferred to another facility (we don't know where yet, depends on a few things like the ability to transport her to the radiation facility) and all of the mail sent to her house is being forwarded to her son Matthew in California. So really the best thing anyone could do is just keep her in their thoughts and prayers. I'll be sure to let you know once she gets settled into a more permanent location. Thanks again John!

Take Care,

Todd

I'm floored. I am so very sorry to hear this news. I am going to send all of my thoughts, prayers and wishes for Kathy. She has such a strong support network here and with her family and friends. May God surround her, keep her and give her strength to deal with this. I've never met her in person but really want to send her hugs. Kathy please know you have us all on your team. Miracals can and do happen.

Father,

Your love is as wide as the oceans

As deep as the sea

And as tall as the heavens.

May your spirit rise like a mightly wave and come and restore those who are ill.

You are the water of life,

You are a fresh spring,

You are healing rain

To all those who are in need.

Come Lord!

Thank you all so much for your wonderful support! I'm going to print out this thread and read it to her - it'll surely warm her heart.

Just so everyone knows, nothing is imminent. She's absolutely in a fight but she's *also* absolutely a FIGHTER. She's been blessed with wonderful care every step of the way and has such a fantastic attitude that I can't even put it into words. She has a LOT going for, as this thread shows. Thanks again so very much for all of your thoughts and prayers.

Take Care,

Todd
