This is a serious leak. The most serious I am aware of to date.

 

Someone has gone way out on a limb with this one as it confirms to the Russians that we have had the capability of listening in on their "secure" embassy to Kremlin communications. The leaker must have been convinced of its importance.

 

It is important to know that this info was sent to WaPo reporters in the form of a letter back in mid-December, 2016. It was filed, unused for five months as it could not be corroborated... until recently.

 

Kushner was apparently eager to appear before the Senate Intel Committee... I wonder if that's still the case. That said, according to sources it is still the case that the FBI is only interested in interviewing Jared as a "witness". That as of now he is still neither a "subject" or a "target".

 

 

Additionally you may have seen a report that three more "contacts" between Jared and "Russian officials have surfaced. Two were relatively early in 2016, during the campaign seasons, but the third was post-election, during the "transition phase".

Jared Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports.

Ambassador Sergey Kislyak reported to his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, son-in-law and confidant to then-President-elect Trump, made the proposal during a meeting on Dec. 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials. Kislyak said Kushner suggested using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States for the communications.

The meeting also was attended by Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser.

The White House disclosed the meeting only in March, playing down its significance. But people familiar with the matter say the FBI now considers the encounter, as well as another meeting Kushner had with a Russian banker, to be of investigative interest.

Kislyak reportedly was taken aback by the suggestion of allowing an American to use Russian communications gear at its embassy or consulate — a proposal that would have carried security risks for Moscow as well as the Trump team.

He added that the “ability to intercept those communications will go away now. The Russians know it exists. But whoever leaked it was so disturbed by the conduct that they were willing to allow that interception ability to go away.”

 

The NBC national security reporter went on to say, “We’ve seen a pattern of incredible and unusual leaks in this administration that we haven’t seen before. When you talk about transcripts of conversations or notes of conversations in the Oval Office, about conversations President Trump had with, for example, the Russian foreign minister in the case of that incident where he’s accused of leaking classified information by talking too much about an ISIS operation, or even think of a month or so ago where his angry phone call with the Australian prime minister was leaked. I mean, these are incredible.”
